  1. Actually, developmental research suggests that there are gender difference in play choices. Boys tend to prefer toys with moving parts or that are made to be active (i.e., "action toys") while girls tend to prefer toys with softer textures (i.e., "nonaction toys"). Anything else (i.e., colors, specific characters) are socially and culturally driven.

  2. Quick custom of the final costume...it's a work in progress

That looks awesome! What pieces did you use?
The torso, arms and legs are from the First Appearance Deadpool from the X-Force box set. I swapped the big grey gloves for black hands and wrist cuffs. The face is Clint Eastwood from a Fistful of Dollars. The helmet is Zombie Daredevil. The holster is from the original black/yellow Daredevil and the clubs from Shadowland Daredevil.

I thought I recognized the Deadpool body on there. Great choice using the Clint Eastwood head as Matt's. Man, that is one good looking custom minimate.

    Thanks!

  4. In honor of today...

How did you make that? I want to try to make my own?
    Thanks!

The torso and arms are from Wildcat. The legs are from the original Bane. The head was Emil Blonsky. For the head wrap, I used a black sharpie on an old Iron Fist mask. I preferred the old one because the straps were visible behind it.

im thinking the legs were from Blade not Bane as he was a 2.5"er

That would be correct! Didn't catch that!

  6. I think that the next TRU wave will be a whole wave of variants.. different costumes, looks, accessories from the regular release waves. Just different enough for the completists to go a-hunting.

  7. The TRU in Times Square is closing because the rent has become astronomical. It really is a shame. They will probably turn that site into yet another tourist-trap theme restaurant (I'm a native New Yorker, in case you can't tell). If you have never been there, the giant, anamatronic T-Rex is worth the trip alone. Used to freak my nephew out every time it roared! Not to mention the giant ferris wheel in the middle of the store.

  8. Hellpop doesn't get it.

I don't, actually. Even if Kevin Smith didn't give me hives, I'd still think this is an odd choice. Is Smith's dwindling fan base that devoted? The box office for Tusk would suggest otherwise. I know the ratings for this show are fine, but they are not phenomenal. But... whatever. I don't like the guy, I hate his work, and I've certainly made that clear. I won't beat the dead horse any more after this post. I hope that this relationship with Kevin Smith is bringing in new Minimate collectors.

I agree. I got about 10 minutes into this show and swore it off. But whatever expands the minimate market...

  9. These just hit NYC. Got 2 of the male main character and 4 of the female main character. I have been officially cured of my impulse to buy blind packaged items ever again.

How did you get four of the female main character? You went to two locations?

All from the same location. All from the same display (they had 2 out on the counter), unless they mixed the contents at the store.

  10. There are three TRUs in my area. None received the Tomb Raider minimates. I greatly appreciate DST making unique figures that other companies won't touch. It's one of the reasons that I have been collecting 'mates since they came out. The distribution by TRU was a mess in this case. I am usually pretty lucky at buying figures online at TRU but these were barely a blip on the radar. Showed up once and never again
