Another classic about to go by the wayside due to Photobucket. Sigh.

And also, thanks for all the laughs Mini_myte. Another person I hope is prospering wherever they are. 🍻

I agree with your sentiments .

I often look back through the 'verse , I did it today & many threads have been decimated:huh:

  2. The Lego Peter Porker seems an expensive investment for a 'head' so I did a little 'trawling' of the net . It didn't take more than a few minutes to find a link to a UK company that could supply me with a Lego-type Peter Porker figure @ £2.99 . I bought a few to get free shipping & they arrived in 2 days . In a nutshell the head fits perfectly onto a minimate body , that had already been established, of course .

Further trawling shows that the same company that produces these  (not the retailer who sold me mine) can supply a whole bloody wave (8) of Porker inspired Marvel figures , iron Man,Hulk ,Captain America et al . Priced @ $0.99 each per character (not per head) + shipping .

After 20 years you'd think that someone at the head of DST would have figured that out .

Is that me 'blaming' the head of DST or am I making the correct observation ?

And not sure what you mean by the 2-inch rule. Starting in 2003, we couldn't make Marvel bigger than 2 inches. Using a 2-inch base body,  some can be a little bigger than 2". They can be as short as we want,  but at some point they are not very poseable (even kid legs and arms are highly restricted, but some characters get one-piece leg stubs).

Thank you for explaining the 2-inch rule  ?

Whatever height the licensing allows for , staggering choices have been made regarding how tall some characters have been portrayed in minimate form compared to others . I'm not sure but I reckon the Minimates, Puck & Howard the Duck are taller than Excalibur Captain Britain . I mentioned the Sentinels ,Galactus Minimates because I fully understand the idea behind a standard size , I get it.               I also understand why & when that rule ceases to be a rule, because I know who sets the rules.

    That is another observation .

I can also observe that even I am getting fed up with me whinging so I'll stop but......

......please make that Micro-mate with a standard removable head just like Miss Piggy's.

I'm curious, was it something about Swordsman that captivated you? Because that's a very Swordsman-heavy cover.

If I recall correctly I was just 'given' the comic by someone who had just returned from the States . The Swordsman was unknown to me as was Cap & the rest .  2 years later the first 'Power' comics were published in the UK ( B & W reprints of Marvel comics) by which time I was hooked . I've had several lapses of interest in comics over the years & I 'came back in' with Brubaker's Winter Soldier which is IMHO the best comic-run I have ever read . That in turn led me back into Marvel, Marvel led me into Minimates & that's pretty much it.

Jacques Duquesne is of course a grail of mine & he'd better not turn up as an accessory .

How did we get here ?

DST brought out a line years ago that lasted several waves & consisted of 80% of the characters being black unpainted plastic from the waist down ....Star Trek .   Tooling & tempo minimal ,yet (I'm told :)) people loved them ?

Plants & Zombies . Lasted for 4 (ish) box sets  , 17 characters with nigh on every component a new sculpt generally tampo-printed in every place imaginable . I loved them but IMHO they just had to be unviable before they even hit the stores.

My point ? There has to be a middle ground where Minimates are viable for DST & desirable to the kid/ toy collector.

After 20 years you'd think that someone at the head of DST would have figured that out .

  5. I am smiling as I type this ,thank you for your post it is appreciated . Is it the end of my world ? Of course not.... but I am extremely disappointed that we (I)are ( am) not getting a proper Ham 'mate.

Over the years I have never quite 'gotten' when the '2" only licensing " kicked in . There have been some very sad elongated Hulk Minimates for example who shared a podium with exactly 2" Galactus & exactly 2" Sentinels .  Here we have a character (5'2'' or whatever ,who cares?) that isn't a giant & .....it makes no sense ?

No I don't understand the decision to produce Peter Porker as an accessory but that's the DST decision . IMHO it is an opportunity missed.

The Itsy Bitsy explanation is also appreciated but adds to my perplexion re: size .

I was born in 1955 , my first US marvel was Avengers issue 19 ,June 1965 ,fresh off the newstands . I was 10.

These days my 'source material'  lay in boxes in that warehouse that cylonchaney posts pictures of . :)

I'm sure the enterprising among us will figure out how to safely decapitate Porker and transplant his head to Itsy Bitsy. Not the end of the world. But it would be nice to not have to.

Hopefully it will be like Rocket and we will get an articulated version later.

It is the end of my world

  7. In a nutshell Peter Porker deserves better than being a 'micro-Mate' .

".......a micro-figure in pretty much every deluxe box set... "  By quoting you ,my intention is not to 'bait' but that is simply not reality . I know we have a 'Herbie' & no issues with that ... Scott Lang's head is Scott Lang's head , they're not micro-Mates .

Walgreens ....yeah Walgreens.... wave 3, had an *Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man . I know the Deadpool/Spidey story where Itsy Bitsy is featured but Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man is based on ........who actually ???  Anybody, please show me an image of who this character is based on ?

That said ,that obscure *Minimate , was surely the obvious base for a Peter Porker Minimate.  Peter Parker is 5'10" whilst Peter Porker is 5'2" .....according to 'Marvel database' . There are several Marvel Minimates that portray Marvel characters much smaller than 5'2" so WTF is the issue ?  Please ?

Ham is a micro-Mate like HERBIE or Uni. No articulation or swappable parts. Sorry. We went down to five poseable figures to bring the price down to 40.

To clarify that remark ....no articulation or swappable parts .....Minimates are to be known from now on as Inanimates ?

    Pathetic ,absolutely pathetic .

I'm sorry, I hadn't thought about Walgreens,  they feel like ancient history to me now. To be fair,  they were based on the Spider- Man Animated Series and that series is chock-full of spider-characters (Miles, Arana, Gwen, Venom), so we were going to get a lot of Spider.

If you count Walgreens, there may not be a lot that's new for you in the next set. But as these are comic-based, they do have a lot more detail, new sculpted parts, etc. Hopefully we'll show them off on October at NYCC.

I actually hesitated before quoting the above but, TBQH Zach, I have never really gotten over that post .

Sometimes it felt that the only person that seemed interested in Walgreens Marvel Minimates was me .

Does nobody else remember WG Wave 1 ?  It contained a rather good-looking Spider-Man 2099 (Ultimate).

Does nobody else remember WG Wave 1.5? It contained a rather fine Miles Morales.

WG Wave 8  ? A Spider-Gwen that looks like the previous TRU version & remarkably like the 'new' version .

I am perplexed , where is the 'lot more' detail & the new sculpted parts that you mentioned or is that just ancient history ?

  10. Tampography.

Spelling it out , we* may be criticising prototypes & things change . That said ,apart from Porky ,from what I can see not much has been invested in the tooling !  I can live with that but there are 5 out of the 6 characters have the iconic characteristic white Spider-eyes ,get 'em right & this may be a winning wave ....get 'em wrong ( & I can name several instances in the past ) & this set might be a hammer blow .

    * I hate using the 'we' word but there seems to be a 'gathering' of criticism & I'm really trying to be objective rather than objectionable .

  11. That's Miles better:)

I guess I have to concede that this choice of characters is necessary if the line is going to grab potential new fans .

As an old fan who has several Miles' ,Ben Reilly's , 2099s ,Spider-Gwens  I can see very little to get my juices flowing . The Spider-Man might be the sleeper of the bunch , I really mean that !  There are soooooooo many Spider-Man versions that IMHO just fail to be 'spot on' & ,for me, it is always the 'eyes' that let them down ........this looks good.

    Spider-Ham 25th anniversary 2010 :)

Of course ol' Ham is welcome & I now await Venham in the future....if there is a future ?

Apart from that I'm thinking that these should be released (re-released ,re-re-leased etc.) on February 2nd .

  13. Dark Tower (the books) was (were) enjoyable albeit a tad lengthy but I haven't seen the movie !

Anthony Hopkins' voice is almost as magnificent as Richard Burton's so I understand that he may be a good choice for a robot's voice........but can anyone explain to me why movie robots/computer/ AI characters generally have a very-English accent ?

I am pleased that the characters are not all civilians .

Superstar music mates ? Good idea .  Once again, Medicom produced a very long list of Kubrick music characters- Daft Punk,Kiss,Beatles,Sex Pistols come to mind & there are several Japanese bands that have Kubrick sets/promos ....& of course the Max Rebo band !!!

This might be another Dark Tower.

Dy'know that was going to be my post !   I even looked on eBay to see if that set has become a 'sleeper'  . Over the years I have been steadfast in my belief that a civilian-type Minimate is generally a waste . For example, out of the entire Marvel Minimate line ,Netflix box sets are the worst , they are basically civilian box sets & are just awful IMHO.

Exceptions would be manifold but those exceptions would be 'dressed' iconically ....Marty McFly would be the prime example.

Early days for Rebel Moon in many ways .
