  1. You have to realise,if you don't already, how far advanced you guys, in the US, are compared to us humble Brits. Perhaps not so much now but when I first watched the 'Rockford Files' nobody I knew had an answering machine  So I went out & bought one & the message I left for people to reply to was " Hi this is Jim Rockford....etc.etc...",probably not funny now but all the people leaving messages obviously loved it ..then"

The Rockford Files & James Garner . I loved 'em. Never did get the Impala!

  2. I have to admit that I totally missed out on these when they were easily available, and recently went nuts on EvilBay to get an unopened case of Series 2's as well as a nearly complete collection of Series 1's. I've been collecting various block figs that interested me, and had been thinking about what parts I could use to make my own Mulder and Scully figs, and discovered the existence of the Palz line (and the fact that I totally missed out on them as well!).

Just wish they could have gotten around to a complete set of Lone Gunmen, Knowle Rohrer, Doggett, Reyes, and maybe the Well Manicured Man...

I like them a lot, and just wish they were in scale with my other block figures, as it's pretty tempting to make all kinds of mashup scenes with 'em! :P

Including accessories was a great bonus... I wish they'd do so for the 'Mates and Kubricks as well!

I do have a few extras, thanks to Palisades' decision to blind-package (Grrrrrr!!!) so if anyone is interested, I could list 'em...

The blind-package  There my friend ,you have ,what I consider to be there eventual downfall & demise. If this is ever suggested for 'mates look out! I would loved to have seen further X-Files characters.

  3. I will get all of the Leone-mates, but really, really wish that they released "Once Upon a Time in the West" Mates instead of a "Fistful of Dollars." No Eastwood, but I would be really psyched to get Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards and, as the only essential part of this set, a Jack Elam-'Mate! Oh, well, that one is probably a bit too obscure, though in my opinion, it is the best film Leone ever made.

Plus, it has the best opening shot of any movie that I have ever seen. And being somewhat of a film geek, I have probably seen several thousand movies :)

K I just love your posts. 'Once upon a time in the west' ,what a truly great film which despite the fact that I've seen loads of movies ,even some of the new colour films :P ,I only watched this recently. Bloody well awesome movie  The opening shot at the rail-yard seemed a little 'second-hand 'until you realised when the film was made...brand new!

Now ....unfortunately.... I always think of Jack Elam as 'Swifty Morgan' in 'Support your local sheriff' starring James Garner. To this day if anybody comes too close to me in a pub I'll tell them "....never come up on my gun-side" .Invariably nobody knows WTF I'm on about ....do you? If you've seen the film you will. Priceless. I really like these 'Cowboy' mates.

I was applauding every aspect of what you were saying there until you got to the bit about 'realism' ,weren't these 'Spaghetti Westerns ' dubbed Italian actors filmed in Spain.

    'Buono,Il Brutto, il Cattivo' Clint,Lee & Eli.

You are 100% correct on that. By my vague statement on "realism", I was referring more to the depiction of the lifestyle and grittiness of the times as opposed to previous Westerns' clean (absolute good vs. evil)imagery shot on Hollywood sets. In this manner I feel it raised the bar from pristine white hats and shiny revolvers to something more authentic (despite it's cultural ambiguity LOL). I'll also contest that these films gave birth to the concept of the "anti-hero" and a world where good and bad are simply a matter of perspective. Good-stuff that has stood the test of time and had a big influence on the way we view movies today.

Oh, and not to mention giving us some of the coolest Minimates to date! ;)

...& you'll forgive me for detracting from what was a perfect tribute to these films. Spot on.

  4. Henchmen set...

    Skrull warrior

    Hand Ninja

    Hydra soldier

    Shield Agent

Which would sell crazy as people would army build with it.

    T.

I agree this would sell the F out...now if we could just get Chuck and Matt to get on board. It seems in all of their replies they are like, yea army builders dont work...

I assumed when they said 'army builders don't work' that they were referring to the BSG Cylons or LOR 'whatevers'. It begs the question did the Cylons not sell well or were there that many to sell? They are fairly scarce on ebay esp. orig.'single'Classics.

Nick Fury is now fairly collectible purely I feel as a donor Shield 'army' builder & the Skrull/Thing 2 pack is my current 'New rare on the block' perhaps for the same reason.

Army builders therefore would seem to be the way forward though maybe that DST marketing dept. is still deaf/blind.

  5. First Appearance X-Men is crying out for a boxset and it wont take alot of new pieces so cheap to do.

Cyclops. Just a repaint with added Cap America gauntlets and fold over boots

Beast. Bullseye mask powerchest duck feet and big hands like new abomination. I know this would make him taller with the feet but bending the knees brings him down to scale.

Angel. Bullseye mask. Cap America Gloves and fold over boots and a new piece for the wings.

Marvel Girl. Cap America Gloves and fold over boots and a new sculpt for the mask and hair.

Iceman just a basic mate with fold over boots.

So for a whole box there needs to be 2 pieces made new.

This would be my Holy Grail. Despite my nomination of Ice-Man as 'worst costume ever' in his 'Mashed Potato- man' guise I would actually love a 'mate of him in that form! Good shout 'Fiend.

  6. If you decide on buying some Kubricks beware ebay sellers using the term 'Full sets'. Minimate sellers try the same trick & it's a practise that sucks. I guess most of us realise that Kubricks often have Secret Chase items & these 'Full sets' that are offered invariably do not include these Secrets. That may not be a problem to you but beware of it. Always try & get the 'blind-boxes' they are packaged in as well, these are considered by many to be 'part of the collection' .......

    .....here endeth the sermon!

  7. Bloody Hell.... you've got satellite technology as well!

Wait until you see his tactical teams hit the ground. Hope your security defenses are up to snuff.

I have deployed my entire army of Free Comic Book Day 'Mates .......that is some army, what they may lack in looks, equipment & colour (& rarity) they make it up with numbers

  8. Maschinen Krieger (MK) is a genre & there are many variations ,styles ,kits & models to choose from. Kubricks did 3 series' of 6 different types which I shall leave for discussion in the Kubricks thread because they will definitely be discussed ! Find out more ,for yourselves ,about MK from the many sites that are dedicated to it on the Internet .

What I specifically want to bring to people's attention are the various types that are available from the Japanese company Yellow Submarine which are 1/35 scale & very compatible with 'mates. These are not articulate in the conventional sense but that doesn't detract from them generally. I'm not too good at reviews so I'll let these pictures do the talking*post-638-1211477600_thumb.jpg

I must emphasise that it is worth the effort to do a little 'Maschinen Krieger' research first . It's fascinating .

*these are not my own pictures

  9. PALz never really took themselves too seriously which is a good trait. Anybody who likes block figures must own the Buffy Halloween Box Set especially as they always seem to be cheap these days. Strangely Buffy is my least favourite PALz line.

  10. I am not sure if these have been seen yet, I took a look and saw no post. but here goes

    http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product...amp;picture=out

Once again another sweet looking cowboy set. Almost wish I stuck with this series of mates.

That white hat has so many musical possibilities.

Afraid so (kind'a old news), but I'll never turn down an opportunity to talk about these fantastic mates! We're just waiting (on pins-n-needles...hopefully FoD does as well as the the first offering.) for the pre-orders to appear. I know that I will be personally getting at least two sets; one to add to my Leone collection, and one to customize my Lone Ranger and Brain (Escape From NewYork) minimates (pic.s to follow if Rocky III happens;) ). As "left-field and obscure" as this license is, it's still the most original and refreshing line to come out of the Minimates corral in my personal opinion. As "dead-on" as these 'mates are, I just wish that they'd generate enough demand to warrant a few exclusives ( "Sombrero-Tuco" and "sun-stroked" Blondie come to mind among others...c'mon, F'n "Marty McFly" has a fanbase, why can't some real bad-asses get some respect?!? Am I completely alone here?!?) I can't wait!!!

    * If you're collecting these (or on the fence), you owe it to the craft to at least watch a film or two (brach-out from the "here-n-now" for Crissakes!). They're shown all the time on cable (and how hard is it to simply rent one of these Westen classics?). These films are important, not just for their cinematic-break-throughs, but for their added realism and advancement of the Western genre. "R-E-S-P-E-C-T". B)

I was applauding every aspect of what you were saying there until you got to the bit about 'realism' ,weren't these 'Spaghetti Westerns ' dubbed Italian actors filmed in Spain.

  11. Hey Chuck, it's me, banging on about Captain Britain again. :D

Now Cap B is the star of his own ongoing series is it anymore likely we'll see a Captain Britain minimate?

A yes or no answer would be nice. ;)

While I'm banging on about Cap B... Now we have an invaders boxset is there any chance of seeing a Union Jack mate? He'd be a very simple conversion and that costume is wicked. He'd make a great 'mate.

Hey Chuck, I really appreciate the proposed Invaders box-set,great idea . Here's a picture of the cover of Invaders#1post-638-1211460254_thumb.jpg entitled Battle over Britain.......

.....it's beginning again! Britain is a little place where Minimates used to be sold . When we existed here,we were an all-inclusive society especially the Minimates fans. British (of Britain)Minimates fans regularly purchased Norse Gods,Latverians,Atlanteans,Russians,Red Indians,Cylons,German X-Men,Kree,Skrulls,Jews,Japanese,Chinese,Vulcans,Scots(I passed on those :P ),Canadians,Greek assassins,Kryptonites,etc.etc.etc. .......& many, many, many American heroes in Minimate guise. I know you may not have heard of Britain but you see, I am British , I collect Minimates & I would like to have a Captain Britain Minimate which can pose next to that other British icon(?) Madonna. We all love her here . Thanks for your time.

1.) Any chance we can get customizeable minimates for real life pople, not just super heros, like a pack with scraps and it comes with different hair, shirts and vest, boots, shoes, and accersries, like casual clothes to make normal everday people, like your self?

2.)Any chance of superhero themed backdrops with C3 ground? Like a scenery that is realistic looking and lego type ground?

    Thanks for answering! :D

Do you know any.... real-life pople ...like a pack with scraps ....& accersries  ...like your self?

  12. Title says it all really.

The Jewel of my collection is probably that I have a full set of MSG2 Kubricks... Including the insanely expensive chase figures.

My personal favourites are the Sex Pistols Kubricks I own, mostly because the likenesses for Sid and Johnny are so spot on.

I have a few other random Kubricks such as the GTA3 and Blair witch sets...

The one thing that sit's on the borderline of must have but I keep putting off is the SAS truck that kubrick did... It just looks so damn cool!

Sadly most Kubricks are to expensive to consider becoming a completist so I have resigned myself to be a dabbler.

    T.

Hmmm.....still not got that truck ? I have a lot of Kubricks ....an awful lot of Kubricks. :whistling:

I've got a couple of Solid Snakes from the newest line (wish I had the one from MGS2), and I used to have the Halo ones before trading them to a board member here. I would really like to get the Muppets, some of the Aliens, and a couple of Star Wars figures (Han Solo and a Chewbacca, if they made one), but like TBT says, they tend to be a little too expensive for me. Even the more common ones seem to go for as much as Minimate variants.

Chewbacca came in a box set, Early Bird Box Set . This was a mail-away special exclusive from Medicom.

  13. Timbo, any reply to completely destroy my argument would be most interesting, and who knows? You may make me realize the error of my ways.

    I got nothing.... B)

*EDIT* I just flipped the DVD in and watched that part slowly.... get this... they were bitten by the monster... yep it jumped out of a dust cloud and hit a moving helicopter that was at least 2-3 times higher than it was (even counting a dumbass take a peep pilot) and the last thing you see is teeth!

Oh lets not forget this happened directly after the monster was crawling along as if it major pain cos it had just been bombed.

    Silly silly movie!

    T.

p.s. Convient how the 3 characters we've been following survive but none of the military guys do?

    War is hell!

  14. I'm new myself....I've been coming here getting info on new stuff from the posts, but I just recently registered. I collect the Marvel and C3/DC minimates......and I'm beginning to try my hand at customizing. I'm actually working on a custom Mr. Freeze right now and having a hard time trying to figure what to use for his goggles.

I found gogglesferminimates@aol.com very helpful. I asked them recently "What should I use as goggles for Mr.F",they replied ....."some goggles".....WTF didn't I think of that?????
