  1. Yeah that's a tough one but I think either of your ideas looks possible. Flicking through the database I didn't find a simple idea. All I could come up with was Marvel Girl from the FA X-men set with the face cut out the mask and horns glued on confused.gif

  2. I've been thinking of making a Magik custom, using her recent Darkchylde appearance from Uncanny X-men

I was thinking of using Vorin's feet from the BB line. Azazel's tail, but not really sure what else in terms of armor... For the head, I guess using Loki's headpiece in some manner.

    How about Lady Loki's hair?

  3. Am I the only one that likes the face and hair on the older Kirk better?

Nope, I'm right with you on that. I think a new Sulu wouldn't go a miss though.

I'm fairly certain the hips were moved down because the old hips had to come out exactly right or they would nit the pelvis, preventing movement and, often, snapping the hip peg off. It also increases articulation above the horizontal plane.

So this is a widespread change? It affects the core Minimate aesthetic in a negative way, so I hope it is not a permanent shift.

I'm not too bothered by the arms, hopefully it means mates can hold their arms out level. The legs issue is more noticeable however, I think the legs have sufficient range of motion already.

  4. Also, between the Minimates molded in flesh-colored plastic and the ones that are painted with a flesh tone, it's almost impossible to find any consistent "standard" flesh tone.

I had a similar problem with that when making some TOS uniform decals. The chests are painted while the arms are moulded in yellow/red/blue. Plus when printing on my vinyl sticker paper the colours come out more vibrant.

  5. Greetings all, if you've looked at the decal thread lately you will have seen I've been fixing up the old Trek mates, if not you haven't missed much really.

I noticed the cuff braids were fading or going off colour and people had the wrong badges, so I whipped up a few decals. I mainly wanted everyone to have the same looking braids.

Sorry for the shoddy pics, but they had to be done on my phone, which seems to have washed the colours out a lot dry.png

Sulu got new sleeve braids and the random guy has a chest sticker. Chekov is just there to show colour matches.

Scotty got new braids while Uhura got braids and a new chest to add some curves and the correct badge. Spock's there to show the difference between official and printed braids. Note his seem really dark. Rand shows how I changed the ladies chest designs.

Kirk got new braids, his were still nice and bright, but no longer matched the rest of the crew. The green isn't right, so I will be revisiting those in the near future.

I'm still having trouble matching the right blue for the science division when printing, so they will come later hopefully.

Finally my updated Kabuki, the colours match in person, I promise. Will try and take a better pic at some point.

All my decals are in the decal thread if anyone wants them. thanks.gif

  6. I find the problem with FP is that they have stuff up for pre-order, and will often leave it up even though the product has been cancelled.

I think I waited about four months to get my Mirror Mirror Trek set. The prices are a little steep too.

I will say in their favour that the Leeds store used to carry loads of minimates when I was up there for uni.

  7. As of late I've been tweaking some of the older Trek mates, mainly adding a bit more detail to the ladies, and touching up faded paint on the rank braids with decals. I thought I would share them in case anyone else might like/want/need them for customs or what not.

I've posted them all in the decal thread in the customs board which can be found here <chests> and <sleeve ranks>

Also a couple of quick questions maybe some can clear up:

    1. Does the new TOS Kirk have new cuff pieces, they seem to rest above his gloss painted boots, making him different to the previous ones.

    2. The Mirror Mirror set has Sulu with trouser cuffs, looking at screen caps he has knee high boots, should the cuffs actually be on Spock?

  8. I have two questions, first what do you use for sculpting parts? and secondly if I was trying to make a natalie portmann in v for vendetta minimate, how do you make the head decal look like it has stubble?

I don't sculpt but from what I've seen most people go with Sculpy or Apoxie Sculpt. So I would recommend checking those out.

In regards to stubble, I would stipple paint on with a very dry brush.

  9. Thanks Liney, I was just looking at my Magdalena and thought all she needs is midriff details and she is a good mate.

No problem, I thought if I found Kabuki a bit dated looking so might other people. I agree with Magdalena, she's on my list of decals to do, just needs some abs and I think she would be good to go. Dawn from that set holds up ok, and Witchblade I have written off for now.

  10. Looks like you got a "variant", MsMarvelFan!

Capt Janeway wasn't sure so she brought along a real Seven to investigate the spacial abnormality.

Found another fresh assortment in Annapolis, MD today. One of the two sets had properly placed face tampos. (the loose one pictured above).

Here's a tray shot of Picard and Hugh Borg:

and what's under the borg mask:

    attachicon.gifIMG_0681.jpg

The red picard chest really sticks to the tape, like most every captain america shields. Really gummy, but easily wiped off.

Awesome shots, Picard comes with a heck of a lot of stuff, glad he has a regular uniform block too.

Really looking forward to the Voyager gals.

Now just wait for them to hit online at a reasonable shipping price drool.gif

  11. picked up a full set today in Towson, Maryland. Seven of Nine's eyes and mouth are extremely set apart. Not sure if it was isolated to the two they had on the shelf or if all of the sevens will have features with distance.

    attachicon.gifIMG_0670.jpg

I almost missed them on the shelves too. They were somewhere near starwars and green lantern and a hodpodge of mezits keychains.

Hopefully it was just a bad batch. Looks like the eyes are too high up as her hair is covering her cortical node (?).

  12. I have to rely on the internet for mates, as the only place I have ever seen them was in Yorkshire, six hours away from where I live.

Until Kabuki I had only ever had one problem, one of my Thing minimates had two left legs. One Kabuki came in a boxset, where all the other 3 were fine, and the other two came loose from ebay.
