  1. Stikfas really aren't that bad at all (they're my favorite block figure next to Minimates): they're visually pleasing and I love all those accesories they come with. My only issue with them though is the HORRIBLE quality of some of the plastic they use. The almost-instant breakage on the Pirate, Superhero and Supervillain kits are very notorious examples. If you're planning to buy Stikfas, I suggest you invest in black figures as these seem to be the sturdiest ones of 'em all so far.
  2. I know these aren't Nintendo, and I know these have already been made by another block figure company before (Can't remember which, but they were like Nanomen with freaky-looking giant lobster hands), but what about Final Fantasy mates? I DEFINITELY wouldn't mind figures of Squall, Rinoa, Cloud Strife or X-2 version Yuna, and I think these characters are simply PERFECT for the Minimate form. But I sure agree with everybody else. DST can't NOT make Mario Minimates. And while I had always been a Pokemon fan when I was younger, THOSE would be tricky to translate as Minimates (not unless they made mates of the human characters like Ash, Misty and Brock or something).
  3. Crap, when I saw the words "Street Fighter" on the board just now I thought we were flogging a dead horse again. Right now I only have the P1 Chun-Li and Ryu, but I've ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted Morrigan and Lilith. I became a fan of these characters when my brother discovered the Marvel vs. Capcom videogame, and ever since I started collecting Minimates those were the two characters at the very top of my wish list. Sadly, I STILL cannot get my hands on these two, and I am just dying right now
  4. Crap, I know! The whole shipping thing was also what made me hesitant to order stuff online. And that's not even mentioning all those Customs horror stories I hear so much of... Since Christmas is fast approaching, perhaps I'll just start experimenting with MMMV trade next year... once I finally get my hands on some Paypal monies. EDIT: Just tried checking the shipping rates to the Philippines using the USPS calculator karamazov80 posted, and I can henestly say that international rates are (wait for it) bloody murder. Apparently my best bet at trading now is to either hope and pray that the stuff on my wants list magically appear in one Trade It Forward offer (but then I'd have to produce an offer of my own)... or to get a job. But then again I used a "base weight" of 5 pounds in computing the estimates, and I figure 5 pounds might be a bit of an overstatement depending on how many minimates I hope to procure abroad. Uh... does anybody here know the average weight of a Minimate two-pack?
  5. Uh... is that Chris Pine as Captain Kirk...?!
  6. I already AM in a place like this... Hong Kong. 2 comic shops. ONLY. Metro Manila. Overpriced eBay and 3 comic shops. All selling nothing but Spiderman 3. See, this was one of the reasons I wanted to join the Multiverse in the first place: the possibility of transacting with other collectors who would have access to the kind of Minimates we can't get locally (like Chef Duff or the promo blanks). My biggest setbacks regarding this though had been: a. Who on this board would be willing/crazy enough to trade with and ship all the way to the Philippines? (Then again we have had successful transactions with members from the UK and Germany here, so there's always the possibility. Show of hands, who here would be actually be willing to ship to the Philippines?) b. How in the world would paying internationally work? (Then again I could always sgn up for Paypal... all I need now is some sucker with a credit card.) c. Other than Paypal money, what else could I possibly trade with? Like I mentioned earlier MInimates are like Hell to find here, so I might not have anything anybody would particularly want like a Black Spidey or an X3 variant Jean. Of course, if anybody here would be willing to trade for mini diecast pedicabs or dried mangoes or bootleg DVDs of Manny Pacquiao's fights or some other weird/rare Philippine product instead...
  7. I have a feeling we might not see any actual prototype pics of these waves until maybe next year. I mean, they just showed us the design specs for Deadpool, and it'll probably take a while for them to show us the actual proof-of-concept protos of all 14 mates from both waves.
  8. While I always reserve an air of skepticism when it comes to book-film adaptations, I personally CANNOT WAIT for this movie to come out. World War Z has got to be one of my most favorite books ever, and I think that the source material is so promisingly nuanced and complex that it'd probably take an utter bonehead to mess it up on film. (If somehow Uwe Boll wound up attached to this project I will scream.) If I remember correctly there had been been a bidding war between the film companies of Brad Pitt and Leo Di Caprio over who gets the film rights to World War Z. Also the audiobook version featured quite a remarkable voice cast (including Rob Reiner and Mark frikkin' Hamill). I find it wonderfully astounding, the variety of people who are drawn to the material. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on future casting choices for this film, especially with regards to major characters like Paul Redeker, Todd Wainio and possibly the narrator (Max Brooks?) himself.
  9. Aah... the legendary Toy Collector defense.
  10. *ahem* Funny I forgot to bring it up. At least now this would explain my post in the MMMV Demographic thread. Why NorthRaider? Well, right now I'm kinda in the middle of writing my own own sort-of Sci-fi/Fantasy series (okay, not exactly writing since I haven't actually committed anything to paper yet). The story I'm writing is kind of a semi-lame mashup of X-Men, Twilight and Watchmen, and so far the only person I've told it to (and my sole source of feedback) is my longtime friend and fellow geek from high school who for some reason keeps encouraging the continuing of the story for his own personal pleasure. Anyways one of my favorite characters from the story goes by this really cool nickname "Raider", and I thought that it's make a wicked-cool forum handle since I'm personally a packrat by nature. The "North" at the beginning was just sort-of random, but I like how the whole thing kinda rhymes with "Darth Vader". My avatar? I've wanted my own V mask ever since the movie came out, and I had finally succeeded in procuring one just as I first signed up for the Multiverse. I'm also extremely happy that I'd somehow managed it right on the eve of Guy Fawkes Day
  11. Coincidentally, my own minimate addiction has reached quite irrational levels as well. I'd recommend some kind of solution if I could, except the only one I can think of is to move someplace where minimates are harder to find. And we all know full well that even THAT probably won't deter one with THE ADDICTION, what with those darned Interwebs and all. My only other not-so-bright idea is to come up with some megahit minimate webcomic and somehow earn revenue online from high readership. At least THAT would justify the necessity of a vast minimate hoarde: "I'm not buying toys, Mom... I'm prepping for the second season!"
  12. Nice! That'd probably make a cool-looking wallpaper. (Although the neatness of the display reminds me a little of the Brady Bunch.)
  13. I've never watched that show before, but Hell I'd like minimates of those too!!!
  14. Because we're taking our chances against complete Watchmen newbies who might hate us for divulging too much info? ... but in the end this is still just a film adaptation, and the "compromising" of certain parts of canon should be expected, I guess. Here's hoping Zach Snyder pulls off a decent hit next year (okay, is this Understatement of the Century or what?) Yes it was. It was a dream sequence after Look it up. Oh, right. Looks like I completely forgot about that. My bad.
  15. Me too, I really wanted to see myself. I'm still really bothered by the possibility of since that would sort of diminish the contextual relevance of as far as the moviegoers are concerned.
  16. From one forum newbie/minis fan to another, welcome!
  17. Wait, if THAT'S gonna be how they change the , then does that mean we might not get on film that scene in the book where ? Okay, now I'm really worried.
  18. Chef Duff can FLY! ... that Spiderman right there is kinky.
  19. WAWAWEEWA!!! Finally, a NEW TV/Movie Minimate license! For a moment there I thought I was gonna be stuck on DSS mates forever. I SO can't wait for what DST will come up with next!
  20. variant: Axl Rose? Hmm... Rage Against The Machine mates, eh? If I had known we were going THAT route then I HAVE to suggest Red Hot Chili Peppers mates! Anthony Kiedis Flea John Frusciante Chad Smith variant: Dave Navarro? or maybe "tube sock" peppers For TV.... what about Pushing Daisies? The costumes in there are just quirky enough to make for neat, retro-looking mates. Ned/Chuck Olive/Emerson Aunt Lily/Aunt Vivian And I remember somebody in another thread had (jokingly) suggested Psych mates. My comment: Shawn had better come with a minimate-sized pineapple.
  21. Oddly I am quoting my own intro thread post here: I also find it pretty cool how it's all contained in one single book (okay... twelve issues compiled into one book) and still works as a nice and compelling story. This also makes it more accessible to casual readers who don't have the time or patience to sift through a protracted storyline like Secret Invasion or Infinite Crisis. Lastly, it is noteworthy as one of the earliest graphic novels to feature fully-realized "flawed" characters/anti-heroes like Rorschach, The Comedian or Ozymandias.
  22. Seriously though the only reason some were sitting down was because I couldn't get them to friggin' stay upright on that manila envelope. (Fun factoid: around here we call manila envelopes just plain "brown envelopes" )
  23. Hee hee hee, thanks! I was originally just gonna take a picture of the cabinet where I keep my mates, but decided that placing them in an office supply warzone would've been much cooler. Shame I didn't take the time to give them all cool poses though.
  24. Not a particularly inspiring arrangement... but here at last, my minimate legion:
  25. Rorschach is short. Yikes, I can definitely see what you mean about the possible complaints about Rorschach's voice. When you first hear him say those signature lines in the very first teaser trailer it immediately registers as really cool, but now hearing him sound like that all throughout the film might be a dangerously grating experience. But hey, it's not like the dude was meant to be all butterflies and roses, right? Now I SO can't wait to see how they pull off that scene of on the big screen. As for Dr. Manhattan, for some reason I was hoping he would sound just like the Silver Surfer. Damn, why did they have to look so eerily similar?! Is the spoiler you're referring to ? Also, the part in the trailer where is NOT in the original comic, so that must've been one of the big changes they made to the ending.
