  1. I'll throw my hat in and say it's one of the best things I've ever owned.

I've been hearing good things about what's coming with the big software upgrade in a couple months...

  2. It wouldn't bother me as much if they had turned that assumed mental weakness against everyone – use his Bruce Banner brains to outsmart and attack each hero's weakness a la Batman. But this is just "hit me with your best shot; nope, sorry, not strong enough."

I guess there's a visceral and perverse pleasure in watching Hulk smash the crap out of everything. I'm just worried they're going to run out of ways to write KRRRAAACKKKASHATHHOOOORRRAAAKRRACHHOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in big red letters across a full spread.

  3. <gripe, with apologies to Shanester>

Okay, I like Hulk as much as the next guy, but it's starting to bug me a little that they're building up Hulk as utterly invulnerable to any force anyone could possibly ever conceive of, ever.

Dr. Strange got his ass beat? Couldn't he, like, sorcerize Hulk or something? 'Cause he's, you know, the Sorcerer Supreme of our dimension.

I suppose Hulk puts Galactus in a headlock and gives Eternity a bloody nose next issue?

    </gripe>

  4. EDIT: But Jatta Pake will be there...maybe he could collect the customs and send them to me (assuming he'll have time what with 'The Hunt' and all). Are any other of the customizers headed to SDCC?

That's alright. I was trying to make less work for someone, not more work... ;)

I'll probably bring it to show the other customizers there... we'll have a little monster round-up!

  5. I was actually wondering about that. Does it do DST any more or less good to have stuff hit at Comic Con than any other week? If preorders have been weak, I wonder if they're not pushing everything back to October so they can use all of the Con coverage as a pseudo-Toy-Fair boost for solicits.

Also, didn't someone say something along the lines of wanting to cancel his preorders that were originally planned to ship the week of of the Con, so he could just buy them there? If that mentality (yeah, I did it, too) softened the preorders, maybe DST doesn't want to hedge their bets on whether as much volume actually will get sold at the Con.

  6. I'm lukewarm on the wave as a whole, but I'm buying about a dozen of the Caretaker set just for that hat. So many custom possibilities... The Question, Rorschach, Green Hornet, The Shadow, even Vigilante with a little sculpting!

  7. Just wondering for the people going to SDCC: would anyone be interested in participating in a Minimates swap-n-shop? If everyone brought the extra parts and completes they're willing to trade or sell, it could be a nice opportunity for people to get mates they missed out on.

    Anyone up for it?

  8. I really hope this isn't bad news for DC mates. We had a torrent this year, but the lack of any word on future waves for several months is a little unsettling in this context.

It looks like DC is continuing to solicit "specialty" figures next year, like the urban vinyl Batman, and artist- and story-specific figures. Hopefully the Mattel license doesn't preclude the 2" scale, as Hasbro's Marvel license doesn't.

    Any insiders know anything?

  9. Paying $15 each, we'd need 666 people to get to $10,000. Magic number. ;)

You know, instead of thinking, why not start a poll type thing and ask how many members would donate how much to get an estimate on how much we could raise?

Hey, unless we have about $10K to start, its not even a possiblity using a Marvel character. Blanks, maybe. No poll necessary.

I was talking just a blank with that cubed earth on it.

A MMMV-branded mate would be cool, but I think we'd have a lot more success selling to a broader audience with licensed characters of some sort. The die-hard, "put pretty much anything on a Minimate and I'll buy it" collectors are a sure bet either way. We'll need to get the casual collector on board for something like this to work.

    God bless this old chesnut.

I'll bet it brightens your day every single time someone digs up this idea, huh? ;)

  10. I think you're wildly underestimating the costs for producing these.

Ah... I misread your previous post. You meant a run of 3-5K, not a cost of 3-5K... :)

So what is the cost for something with tampos and tooling (if anyone knows)? $10K? $20K?. I can't imagine even a decent-sized online retailer like Action Figure Express sinking that much into an exclusive, but, then again, I have no idea how their business operates. Did AA/DST used to share the cost of those sorts of exclusives with retailers, then pulled back the reins when Minimates hit a "slow patch?"
