Interesting tidbit: the Jewish calendar is one of the oldest calenders in the world, based on and/or related to the Egyptian calender. It starts from the first month the Hebrews left Egypt during the Exodus, using the same intervals of time (the moon, not all that surprising for ancient cultures) but has a different starting point.
