Like Zach said, they simply don't have the license for it. It was separate from the rest of the MCU stuff, and their year is probably already stacked with a lot of Endgame-heavy merch. Couple that with trying to curb back on expenses probably due to their #1 buyer disappearing, maybe they just couldn't afford it.

I'm sure they wanted to make Spidey stuff, but it's not that they don't want to, it's that they can't at all. I don't think our outcry will make Chuck rethink a licensing deal, Zach's just trying to put a positive spin on it.

If they're unable to make minimates for those reasons then minimates are already dead and we haven't figured it out yet.

Just keep flooding their inbox with complaints. That's really the only way I can see getting anything for this movie, which I certainly hope happens. But sadly, probably won't.

I'm sure it's too late but I've definitely sent something to Ask DST. It will be interesting to see the response.

It won’t push me to drop Minimates, but I have a LOT of MCU ‘mates still in the package, and some waves I bought more to support the line than because I needed another Black Widow, if the MCU is going to start having gaps in it I’m not sure I need any of them.

Knowing there's going to be at least one gap (and probably more, because if they'll skip Spider-Man what won't they skip?) devalues the whole MCU collection to me and I'm only missing a handful of MCU minimates. Add that to the frustration of dealing with Walgreens distribution to find new stuff anyway and it's going to be hard to muster the enthusiasm to put forth the effort.

Yes, I did. Excluding Molten Man who had some appeal to be the ToyFare kick off exclusive both characters have been featured in animated series (with Hydro-Man even being a part of the Universal Studios Ride) and have been seen in toy form before.

Only a toy collector could argue that appearances in a cartoon and toy line 30 years ago equals more exposure than a current movie that will be seen by millions, including practically everyone who collects minimates.

Secondly, I agree it's disappointing but it is a reality of the situation due to distribution. They aren't in Target/Walmart/Big Box and there is only so much product LCS/Luke and Walgreens can hold. A Classic Comic wave in the Spirit of Far from Home does have the best mass potential as it taps in to multiple animated series, Into the Spider-Verse, the comics, nostalgia fans, and movie audiences.

Did you just argue that a wave with Prowler, Hydro-Man, and Molten Man has the best mass market potential? ?

Also, I think people are making assumptions here that may not be correct. Zach's comments in the 'Best Of' thread make it sound like DST didn't even bother to license the movie period. That means no Select figures or Gallery Statues either. Unless I'm mistaken, they couldn't even have been turned down by retailers because they never shopped them product to begin with. I still don't think that was the issue, especially when they can find a was to justify doing a boxset for something like Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Sorry everyone is so disappointed. I honestly didn't think it was that big a deal, now I regret mentioning it.

You didn't think skipping a live-action Spider-Man movie for the first time in 12 years and skipping an MCU movie for the first time ever was a big deal? Seriously?

No doubt DST would like to make them. It’s the retailers who need convincing that there’s enough demand. Unfortunately it’s probably too late to get an assortment out even in time for the home video release and DST is notoriously reluctant to “go backward.”

I'm not willing to blame retailers on this one. If somehow that's the issue it's all on DST not being able to sell a Spider-Man movie.

Is spiderman far from home produced by sony or marvel, that maybe the reason it isn't up for licensing.

It wouldn't be any different than Homecoming.

  7. Wow, that's disappointing. As others have said, if DST is going to start skipping MCU movies then I have a lot less incentive to keep buying movie minimates. I've been losing enthusiasm for them anyway as I've found much of the product lately to be more miss than hit. Captain Marvel might be a good place to start.

One other thought: It's always dangerous to give your customers a jumping off point, they just might take it.

Great wave!  Looking forward to Spider Slayer the most.  Not expecting it, but would love to see an alternate head for Blackie Drago Vulture.  Love that era...

That would add a lot of value to the figure but I have to think they would have showed that head if it was going to be included.

  9. Have to applaud DST for some creativity with that Spider-Man. That Miles is a horrible costume design and I'm a little disappointed DST chose it. Mysterio seems like a waste though I suppose he'll be better than the Carnage in wave 76 as far as being a repeat. Prowler, Molten Man, Kraven, and Hydro-Man look good and there seems to be just enough new parts to not feel like the characters got shorted. Vulture is a little boring being so much like the first but that one was so close to perfect that I guess there's not much to do if they fix the colors and plastic. I'll have to wait for a better picture of the Spider-Slayer.

I really cant see DST getting any new licensees and honestly i think its just a short amount of time before they stop making any minimates at all.

I'm afraid this could be accurate. Minimates seem to be turning into an afterthought with PVC statues and action figures getting most of the focus (and sales).

  11. I think we can expect every Spider-Man suit that shows up in the movie. Mysterio could look cool if done right. What we saw of the villains in the trailer doesn't get me excited for minimates of them.

Also, I could do with never hearing the Spider-Man theme in a movie again.

Drax from 1st Guardians movie wave got the same treatment, I think it's an awful chest piece... I miss the toned bulked-up piece that was used for Hulk in that film's wave. Would've been perfect for Drax too

Exactly. The chest piece they used only looks good with the other bulked up parts, it's ugly with normal arms and legs. DST seems to use this formula enough that they should have another piece available. The one you mention would be a much better alternative if it still exists.

  13. Is Bron Char's specialty being fat? You'd think DST would have a better solution than that particular chest piece by now, they can do better. Nice to see Ronan's Universal Weapon correct this time, that was one of the strangest mistakes I've seen made. The wave looks pretty good if awfully repetitive. Considering the cat is the best accessory in the ML figures it's disappointing to not see it here.
