  1. Wow, most of those alternates are astonishingly lazy.

Not to come to the defense of another Wolverine minimate, but we don't actually have that costume yet, at least with a mask. I'd be glad to add it to my collection unless they change the styling on these and make them incompatible with other Marvel 'mates. I also won't be sad to be able to get Deadpool in another 2-pack, they have to sell these in 2-packs, right?

  3. I do appreciate the difference between the original release of these sets and everyone's 'washed' versions. I am thinking I might attempt this myself, but I am not sure how to do it. Can anyone who has done this with success share their techniques? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I used some black acrylic paint from Wal-mart, heavily watered down and brushed on the figures. I'd say Tenime's about right on the proportions, you want a lot more water than paint in the mix. Also had some paper towel handy to soak up the extra from spots where too much pooled. It's really easy to do, and worst case if it doesn't look right you have a little bit of time where you should be able to wash it all off and start over.

  4. Less colorful Minimates is a step in the wrong direction, IMO.

I don't understand this line of thought. If you're collecting Marvel minimates purely as toys I guess it makes sense, but I'm collecting Marvel characters first and foremost. If it's accurate to the character, I don't care if they're wearing a crazy Kirby costume or jeans and a trenchcoat.

  5. You guys talking about Spidey's eyes made me realize something I've been wishing for to be fixed possibly being fixed. That red bar on top of Spidey's chest is gone! I showed some previously released Spideys that had the red bar to Chuck at SDCC and he didn't know about it then. If this is fixed, that means I'll actually be buying a handful of Spideys again!

At first I thought I saw the red bar in both pictures, now I'm not sure.

If Chuck wasn't aware of that issue, do the DST guys see any finished product? Chuck always seems surprised whenever these quality issues are brought up.

  6. Would the new Spider-man costume be the fastest we've ever seen a minimate released from the first appearance of its source material? It seems to me the first image of the costume was released at SDCC.

I'd also rather see the wraps on Iron Fist done with paint. Maybe they'll put flesh tone under that so you have the option of displaying without? I also wonder if they might give us a reversible head for White Tiger so we're not stuck with just "evil" eyes.

  7. I like the look of these quite a bit. The Spartans may need a little bit of a wash to bring out the details in the armor though. I'm sure I'll end up with enough 'mates of the Master Chief to give it a try.

To those of you who dislike them: How would you like to see them put together? Honest question, I just don't see how they could be done much differently and still look enough like the characters to be worthwhile.

  8. Almost exactly 3", based on my tape measure. I picked up the bounty hunters set because I didn't have any of them as full-size Muggs. I wish they had used this scale from the beginning, it would have made my collection much more manageable. I don't understand why they molded the weapons in the hands, you'd think that would end up making them cost more to produce.

  9. Just me, but I love the lighter blues on these guys, really makes the details pop. They've worn different shades in the comics over the years -- these look to be the uniforms they wore in the Marvel Knights '4' series, given the lighter blue, seam down the front and shiny logo.

I agree completely. The shade of blue is my favorite thing about these figures. It clearly marks them as the modern FF and makes them better than simple rehashes of the earlier figures. I don't miss the stretchy arms and would trade them any day for the base. I've never displayed the old Reed with the arms but the new one is absolutely displayed with the base.

  10. I was deleting pictures off my computer and noticed that the lack of webbing on Spider-Man's forearms was visible in the pics from SDCC, so I guess we missed it. Also checked out the the SDCC and NYCC pics for the Wave 37 Spidey and it looks like he'll have the same issue.
