  1. I'm going to wait until this guy hits ebay. No matter what I end up paying for him there it's going to be cheeper than buying stuff I don't want (Star Wars bobble heads for instance) and then paying double (or tripple) what shipping should be. If the $25 included items from the whole store I would have bought the Defenders set from them but as it is I'm going to purchase that item from CSC or BBTS.

I wish I could support a store that is making exclusive Mates possible but they really need to rethink the whole over charging on shipping/selective promotion thing.

  2. Just look to Star Trek as a new line that has wholly embraced the classic Minimate style, while also providing just enough paint detail to match the modern 'mates. You can easily stand Kirk next to 1st release Spidey or BTTF guys (but not both together!), and nothing looks out of place.

Probably just me, but I've been skipping the Star Trek Mates because to me they seem a bit bland. I'll admit I'm not really a Trek fan (though I used to watch it as a kid and thought it was pretty good) on the other hand, I've bought all of the BSG mates thus far and have never seen an episode of that show. For me it's the coolness of the toy/the value for my money (in paint and sculpt detail, accessories) that sells me on a line more than the license of the line itself. For the DC mates though I love both the license and the line.

  3. *Takes Deep Breath*

Ill keep this as short as i can. I am a purchaser of mini figures. My mini figures do *not* need to be blocky. Minimates have established themselves as "mini block figures w/ articulation" but i am very open to the idea of them moving away from the "block only" design , even if in small increments, so long as the figure still looks good.

I love the look of the standard minimate body when representing Superman. It looks GOOD (enough to spend money on). Simple Yet effective. I like Sgt. Rock using the standard minimate template as well. Again..enough to spend money on ( i emphasize this as im already a financial supporter of the line , thus im fine with the product as is, but im not opposed to seeing it evolve or try new things).

With that said..i would also purchase a Minimate Superman if it had a sculpted torso (NOT a slip over torso accessory thats used to add "bulk" or size. I think those look horrible in the overwhelming majority of the times they are used). Slip Over clothing is ok. I would love a Sgt. Rock 2'' figure with full poseability that actually had sculpted ab's or sculpted head. I like the idea of sculpted heads provided that they look good / are appealing. I did not like the retarded slip on head pieces of the Thing and Hulk figures. Blah. I do like the sculpted hair on the hulk (zombie) better.

Im not opposed to minimates becoming "mini action figures" so long as they look good.

I saw Saalak , the "bug" Green Lantern , for the first time tonight and my first thought was " Wow!! Thats a good looking figure! Is that a detailed torso!? Id buy a lot more minimates if they start making them more along these lines." That may be because i already view minimates as mini action figures that are blocky as opposed to what some people seem to view them as...block styled action figures. I like the 'mates because they are small action figures that have articulation on par with larger figures..not because they are blocky (at least thats not the exclusive reason).

There are customs on the board that have detailed/sculpted torso's and they look good. If the sculpting was kept "soft" (not overly detailed) you could get away with a minimate with sculpted detail in the body and face while still maintaining the cute look.

The only downside to this is the lack of uniform parts with regard to customizing. Personally i dont see this as a big deal but i come from a larger scaled action figure customizing background where , in general, there are no "universal body parts". If someones main selling point with regards to 'mates is the standard parts then i can understand their frustration.

Ultimately im of the opinion that smaller need not mean "less" with regard to action figures. That includes detail. Im not sure if the block design was solely an aesthetic that was deemed new and exciting or if , truthfully, the creators wanted detailed mini action figures but realized it was more cost efficient to create block figures. Either way it was a hit & im purchasing them but id love to see the sculpted alternative .

Couldn't agree more, I really like the inovation to the Minimate block form that is coming out with the DC and Battlestar Galactica Mates, the more detail, sculpt and accessories the better for me.

I pretty much ignored Marvel Mates in the past as I didn't see them as a value for the money. The DC mates on the otherhand I've pre-ordered every series as soon as they've been anounced. I'm really looking forward to getting Saalak, that is one cool looking figure.

  4. I just saw a regular Halo set (blue, red, green, clear) on ebay with a bid on it priced at $70, which is crazy as I just got the same set in the mail from BBTS the other day and paid $18 for it. I'm thinking the bidder thought that it was the variant set.

The cheeper Kubrick sets to get are those released in conjunction with American companies, the Halo set, Batman set (with Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Scarcrow, Mr. Freeze) and (I'm thinking but could be wrong) the X-Men set and Spawn. I've stuck to these mainly.

  5. For me the quality of Minimates has never been better. As I go back in time picking up older Minimates I notice the sloppy paint of say the early Daredevil wave and the loose fitting parts of the early C3 mates. The new Marvel and DC mates compared to these early figures is night and day. The amount of accessories, paint detail and sculpt complexity have all increased as well.

  6. I picked up this wave along with the Zombie pack and the X3 wave and I have to say I like wave 16 the least of those. The main reason is the extreme looseness of the head/hair pieces (with Zombies being really tight and X3 being alright) and the lack of paint and sculpt detail (the Zombies having an amazing level of paint detail, X3 having an amazing level of sculpt detail).

There are some good characters in wave 16 but I'm a bit miffed that their pegged hair pieces either, freely spin around whenever they are touched, or fall off altogether. Given the quality of other recent waves it's a bit disappointing.

  8. DC brought me back into collecting minimates, to me they just had better paint, details, accessories, quallity, and character selection then what came before. I've pre-ordered all of DC's sets and haven't received a bad Mate in the bunch, no breakage, no paint slop.

I'm looking forward to seeing what new inovations DC can come up with and to seeing improved Marvel-mates...it's a pretty good time to be collecting.

  9. Interesting wave, Im pretty sure thats the Montoya Question though aside from that one bodged issue of countdown thats spot on for her costume, and well ya'know Vics dead and Montoya/Batwoman always seem to appear together so what sense would it make if it was Vic?

Also in the TNI pic, though the Question is behind another figure, it looks like the Question is wearing a t-shirt with a shaddow outlining boobs! :o  This version also is missing the dress shirt and tie that the classic version always wore.

  10. My thoughts after seeing the photos...

    Cyborg / Raven

I love the classic Teen Titans and to get the most iconic two in one pack is great. Raven looks better than I could have hoped, she is spot on. My only quibble is that it doesn't look like she can be unmasked.

Cyborg looks a little rough in the mask and face area but I'm sure they'll get it worked out, it will be a year before these get released after all. I'm looking foward to seeing his blaster arm attachment. One of the cool things about Minimates is how easily hands can be swapped and it's suprising that more mini figures don't come with alternate hands.

Sinestro / GL Salaak (4 arms!)

Sinestro on his own is great but to get him with a work of art like Salaak is amazing! I'm really really looking forward to Salaak and I really wouldn't consider myself a GL fan. There is so much coolness to him that I can't stop looking...4 arms! Amazing head sculpt! He is quite possibly the coolest thing I have ever seen.

The coolest thing about Salaak and their are many to choose from is that it looks like his upper chest/sholders is slightly wider than his lower chest which gives his arms a staggered look and looks to allow all of his arms to hang down neatly and rest by his sides.

I didn't really care for Grodd or Clayface in the last wave mostly because the molded parts looked tacked on to the blocky Minimate body. Salaak on the other hand looks sleak with all of his parts well intergrated to his body. This figure makes me very excited for the future of Minimates, it's a bold and smooth step foward. Very inventive.

Red Son Superman / Red Son Wonder Woman

There are classic figures I'd rather get before Elseworld versions but these two aren't all bad. I do hope, however, that they repaint the faces of these two as Superman really don't look like the stressed, older, slightly evil version in the comic and Wonder Woman really doesn't look meek enough. Right now they look like straight repaints of previous figures we've gotten. They have potential but aren't quite there yet.

    Modern Batwoman / The Question

Batwoman too feels like a Elseworld design as she is a pretty big departure of a older forgotten character, a Ross design that I could see fitting more into the Justice books, and a character who we most likely won't see all that much in the main comics. Figure wise I kind of like the design especially the gray details on black. While I wasn't crying out for a figure of her I'll look foward to adding her to the collection.

The Question to me seems badly put together. I usually don't swap parts but I'm going to have to find a dark blue trench coat and a dress shirt with a tie for him to wear. The face seems to be an unpainted minimate head rather than a mask and the hair and the clothes just look really shabby. He looks more like a hobo than the Question, and is probably my least favorite DCD Minimate.

All in all with the exception of the Question this is a great wave and a step up from the lackluster wave 7(for me at least)

  11. After the last Crisis, Batman Beyond hasn't been shown as one of the fifty two worlds or as a potential future. So I don't think it's part of continuity anymore.

I haven't been following along, what are DC's 52 new worlds? Is this a temporary thing or is the Multiverse truly back?
