  1. Aquaman - Sorta simple, I would have perferred a hook hand, long hair/beard for detail sake. Great spear accessory and his feet have great little fish hooks on the heels!!

    Get in there! Yes!

I was hoping that they would have done something like this for Aquaman! Finned heels!

Thanks for the info HAR! Patiently waiting pics now.

  2. Great, thanks for the help guys, i'll go for it. How hard is the helmet to remove?

    Patriot

From the box, very difficult probably. The good news is that if you put the minimate in the freezer for ten minutes, then use some kitchen roll or tissue to get a grip, the helmet will come off much easier. Honest!

It's a good trick to know.

  3. $18 that is almost twice what we are paying in the states. I got mine for 10 and thought it was high, but worth it. 18 though, that is a little out of the range

Forbidden Planet have a very bad habit of just changing the dollar sign on a RRP to pounds and to hell with the exchange rate.

The DC two-packs I got from a LCS selling on eBay as opposed to a chain like FP still had the bricks and mortar price on them. 6 pounds 50 which is pretty good for the UK.

  4. Ultimate Spider-man. Just a change in the spider emblem and no webbing. The eyes should have been bigger from standard Spider-man and the webbing slightly more restrained, rather than left out.

I would just like to take a moment to defend my Ultimate Hero. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the Ultimate Line and why we still don't have an Ultimate Thor or Ultimate Iron Man is beyond me........but that's for another thread :). Anyway, if you read the comics you would know that when Peter joins the underground wrestling circuit he dons a familar suit with NO WEBBS. Later, when he because our Friendly Hero he adds the webbs. The mate was a nod to the Pre-Spider-Man Wrestling costume found in the 1st arc of Ultimate Spider-Man. In that vein I think it was pretty cool. Best, not by a long shot, but I still don't think it should be classifed as worse. Again, this is a humble opinion from an Ultimate fan ;). Please resume discussion. neo

    A spirited defence!

Aware he joined the wrestling circuit, hence the appearance in the movie, but the mate was called Ultimate Spider-man. He should have been in his regular suit!

  5. After studying the entire collection

I'll start with the worst in my eyes...

    Two Spideys I'm afraid...

Ultimate Spider-man. Just a change in the spider emblem and no webbing. The eyes should have been bigger from standard Spider-man and the webbing slightly more restrained, rather than left out.

Spidey 2099. Very poor quality plastic and reeked of little effort. Was worse at release time as he replaced Thanos IIRC.

I also have a complete dislike of New X-Men Cyclops. The jacket is cool enough but that hair and visor piece... eurgh. Ruins that figure.

    The best in show?

    Surprise, surprise but...

I wish I could say an amalgam of the two Caps but picking one I'd have to go with the most recent redo. Yeah, he's missing a line on his boots and the sides aren't tampoed but I love his detailed mask and the mail work on the suit. That wins out over the first Cap, even though his plastic is also slightly better - just! If you had to convince a comic fan who was unaware of minimates that the line was worth purchasing, then either Captain America would be placed in their hand to see their reaction.

    Reserve:

Blue Beetle. The paint on his goggles can be inconsistent but he's a winner in my eyes. I prefer this mask type to the new DCD Batman style.

    2nd, 3rd and 4th Reserves

Red and Yellow Classic Ironman. Just a perfect rendition. Dark Phoenix. Similar in style to Iron Man's detailing but pristinely done on my example and I really like the shading and the look captured on her face. Ben Reilly Spider-man needs a mention, flawless!

    Great thread!

  6. What I must say I love about these new waves is that they actually come with removable masks, so that no 'Unmasked' variant can be made. I mean, 'Unmasked' is cool and all, but it takes away possibilities for a variant.

    Glomit

Yeah, the unmasked Daredevil from the early Marvel waves was a bit pointless. Tried to get it once but it was lost in the post so never bothered again!

Unmasked Daredevil? It's Daredevil from wave 1 with a repainted Peter Parker hairpiece, which in an ideal world he should have come with.

The DC waves seem to be slightly better but not perfect though. No hair for Ted Kord although C3 Flash's works well.

  7. It seemed to me the quality of minimates has been getting better. But that could because marvel 10-13 were all reuses and dc and bsg have been character I have been looking forward too. As of late all the mates I have gotten this year have been excellent no breaks not too many paint smudges either.

Had quite a good examination of various mates this weekend and although the DCs are considerably better than the quality of the Astonishing X-men wave, the waves which included the Spider-Women / Sable / Black cat / Roque / Mystique were easily the pinnacle of minimate production.

Seem heftier, less stress marks on the plastic and being fully painted it gives them a more robust feel when compared to the pitiful Sentry.

  8. Now that's bizarre. I never heard about quality issues with the SFII line. I certainly haven't had a problem with any of mine. What issues did you have?

Mostly paint and mostly Ryu although I did have a Chun-Li with a broken leg.

Ryu's belt was very badly done on two of my examples. The worst piece had red smeared on his white gi ( from the still paint fresh gloves ) and the paint coverage on the shoulders was congealed on one arm and nigh on non-existent on the other.

Just a bit unlucky with that line probably. Own pretty much the entire Marvel line and the only other issue I had was a missing arm accessory from the Sandman pack.

  9. Guys,

Whilst I love the improved quality of the paint jobs it would be great if DST could get the people in the factories to put a matching pair of arms on the figures.

I've had at least 2-3 BSG figures with both of the same arms and now my Jean Grey has two right arms also.

Is anyone else getting this is am I just scarily unlucky?

    T.

Probably a bit unlucky. My Booster Gold was pretty badly painted around the hairline / visor interface and I just noticed his two left arms when taking him from the pack. Luckily the plastic was malleable enough to still allow elbow movement with a small amount of force.

I bought two sets of this two-pack as I sometimes combine the best looking parts of two of the "same" figures if I really like that character. One for display and one for just mucking around with. QC on the others seems pretty tight though. Certainly better than Streetfighter.

So I have a Blue Beetle who has a slightly better set of goggles than the other but the difference in the two Boosters is pretty large. "Mucking about" Booster wouldn't pass QC, "Sunday Best" Booster is pristine!

    April 18:

    * DC Minimates Wave #3 - (Deathstroke with Green Arrow, Battle-Damage Batman with Killer Croc, Aquaman with Ocean Master, and Wonder Woman with Ares) - was April 25

Great news! I'm really curious to see if Aquaman will have fins on his calves. It's a long shot due to the legs being a standard part but I didn't expect the Penguin to be given special shoes, so they just might! Even fins attached to the back of the feet would be great.

Whatever, I'm really looking forward to Aquamate. He's crisp and unfussy looking in the proto shots. The Water-bearer custom version won't be exactly hard either.

  11. They look great, thanks for taunting us with the pics  .

I REALLY NEED to get that Robin Minimate now

Yeah, when the prototype shots were made available, the Robin / Penguin two-pack was the only one I was so-so about but...

...these DC minimates always look far better when they are released. Robin's mask looks great and the Penguin having little feet is a unexpected touch.

I even like Hal Jordan's bigger forehead, it seems a bit more reminiscent of the character due to the mask shape.

Blue Beetle looks brilliant and will knock Iceman from the bronze position in my Top 3. Captain America ( the most recent one with the scaled suit ) and C3 Nightwing still hold the top spots.

  12. For those with their money on Ant-man and Wasp:

Do you think they will be in classic or modern costumes – i.e., will it be Ant-man or Yellowjacket? There is an Ant-man movie rumored to be in the works, and his ant helmet would be mighty cool...

I think it would be the classic costumes so they fit in with the rest of the wave. Probably!
