  1. The whole of Wave 19 is underrated .

I seldom agree with those folks from across the pond but BHM's right in this case, my first thoughts on seeing this thread were Ms Marvel, Ultron and Mysterio which all came from this wave.

  2. I am a little disappointed at the lack of entries for this contest.

Below is my QC for the contest, hopefully it'll show you don't have to be talented at painting or sculpting to enter, just creative and perhaps have a little fun.

    Negan from the walking dead.

Lets see if we can't finish this with a bang and try to get at least a dozen entries before the close?

p.s. As staff I am making myself ineligible for the prizes\placing.

  3. I hope to see you guys there. I am at the Essex, too. maybe we need to get up a card game or something.highfive.gif

    Anyone here play Dominion?

Dominion is ok, but feels too much like 4 people doing their own thing with little interaction for my tastes, if I'm playing boardgames I want to focus on the interactions with folks! smile.png

My current favorite card game is "Coup" super simple rules, portable, cheap, plays short, very high amounts of interaction and is a lot of fun.

  4. So for those that say they don't understand why some of us are Dissapointed that we are not getting a proper Rocket minimate...

It would be like saying if they made a game of thrones minimates that Tyrion should be a single piece plastic accessory, because it would be silly making him the same size as Hodor.

To be fair, Peter Dinklage is much bigger than a raccoon.
    Two points.

    1) It was more a comment that he's an important character that shouldn't be sold short(no pun intended) because of his physical size in a toy line that has always played fast and loose with relative scale.

    2) I think you just gave me a new Sig quote to use smile.png

  5. Please don't fight over whether we were right or wrong, the line is what it is, whether we made the correct decision or not. I hope once people see a clear shot of the RR figurine, they appreciate it for what it is.

We're cool, it's what we do here, discuss minimates past, present and future in stupidly painful detail.

We all know what we are getting, like it or not it's not going to change at this point.

I feel it's more of a discussion on where we as collectors and owners of many ( in some cases thousands of) minimates feel the boundries should be for this sort of thing.

  6. Uh, wouldn't the bummed ones be buzzkills, not enjoying any Rocket Raccoon at all? Devil's advocate.

It's not that i don't get the disappointment, i don't see why an articulated Rocket was an expectation. Not even Legends Rocket is articulated below the waist.

Like it or not, Rocket is the same size as Snarf and Lockheed. To the the Thundercats, Snarf is a pretty key member of the team too, and he went articulated. Rocket has two distinct poses i can think of, standing and shooting. Rocket is not Lockjaw, or ANY of the examples above. Lockjaw, Slimer, MODOK, Battle-Beasts, all full-human sized. There are more options to be inventive with. Rocket is tiny. REALLY tiny. Smaller than Carl, smaller than Tyrion.

The Carl argument is just silly. Yondu and Nebula don't equate to generic zombies. It'd be more like never getting, say, Axel.

We're getting a Rocket Raccoon who can still do what Rocket has to do.

EDIT: Regardless, yea, it doesn't really matter, nor is it that serious of an issue. I just wanna see the wave already!! laugh.png

I know you're playing devils advocate here so...

I still don't get the issues with scale, the Avengers movie wave had Loki and the Hulk use the same body type. Which is fine as Chuck has argued consistently that marvel minimates will always have a 2" body on his watch. So Rocket should be based off a 2" body.

If we want to get really silly about the scale thing then lets talk about Minimates in general... How much shorter is say wolverine to the statue of liberty?

Carl or Axel, If you could have only one proper minimate who would you pick?

"Getting a Rocket who can still do what Rocket has to do" - Neither of us has seem the movie but as a comic character he goes way beyond big guns, that's like saying lets make wolverine one piece but have two, one with claws and one without, that way he can do what he has to do, it's a terrible oversimplification.

I guess what I'm feeling when it really comes down to it is how much I like the character (from the comic books) and knowing that this was the best chance to get a Rocket minimate. If we cannot get him now then we never will.

  7. So for those that say they don't understand why some of us are Dissapointed that we are not getting a proper Rocket minimate...

It would be like saying if they made a game of thrones minimates that Tyrion should be a single piece plastic accessory, because it would be silly making him the same size as Hodor.

For those saying, but it gets us an extra figure... it's like saying they shouldn't make Carl for walking dead, because it would mean they could fill the space with another zombie.

For those saying I don't know how it would work using a normal minimate body... Brood , Lockjaw, Modok, Slimer, Battle beasts... have all shown that some very unexpected minimates are totally possible with a little inventiveness. I'm pretty sure he could have been a 2/3 height minimate with shorter leg pieces and arms. for legs I'm thinking something akin to shorter versions of those used on the bird from battle beasts, for example.

Realistically we know it's to late for it to change but there are plenty of us who feel Rocket has been short changed and DST might have made a mistake, after all the movie is called Guardians of the Galaxy and he's the only member of the team not getting a full minimate.

  8. Rocket is six inches taller than Puck too. My point is that minimates isn't about scale its more about perception. I just don't see how Rocket would work as a larger figure with what's come before. If he has articulated arms or something that would be sweet but he shouldn't be the same body as Cyclops, Deadpool, Iron Man etc

By your logic The movie Loki shouldn't have the same base body as hulk but he did...The default rule with marvel has always been 2" body for all main characters.

The whole conversation is moot now anyway as DST has said we're not getting a Rocket Racoon minimate, just an accessory.

I do wonder how they are going to pack him in though, because it's going to make for interesting distribution where in one pack you're getting 3 characters?

  9. I guess this was foreshadowing....

    From Ask DST #186
Q: "If you guys get around to doing the Guardians of the Galaxy, would Rocket Raccoon be made kind of like the small characters (ex: Snarf) in the Thundercats line or be a full fledged minimate figure?"
A: "Good question, I don’t think we’ve ever discussed how he would be done BUT something similar to Snarf might be the way to go."

The argument is that his stature makes him a pet. I've never seen Guatdian take Puck out to do his business but I wouldn't call him his "pet."

Maybe that's why Puck got a fullsize minimate despite his smaller size.

"Lock Jaw and the pet avengers" also implies that Lockheed is a pet, Not sure If I want to argue with Marvel but go ahead wink.png

  10. I'm feeling fiesty today so... Here's a quote I stumbled upon from an old ask DST from 2008...

"Brandon Giles: Hi DST. Any chances we could see Minimates of the cast of “The Big Bang Theory” ?

DSTChuck: I don’t think so. I don’t think that property translates to Minimates very well and I’m not sure if the fans of the show would like Minimates. Great show though!"

    :)

  11. Lockheed was an agent of SWORD and is the alien liason for the x-men

And as far as I'm aware wasn't in any of the 3 X-men movies... let alone one of the 5 main characters? wink.png

Seriously though get someone to name 5-10 x-men and it's unlikely they'll say "Cyke, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Lockheed.... and oh I dunno I'm struggling to think of anyone else right now..."

Do the same for GotG and I bet Rocket would 2nd or 3rd on the list.

  12. There was a precedent... until they found a better way to do it. Obviously DST has decided for very small characters this is the way to go and I wholeheartedly agree. If it also gives us a chance to get Nova Corps troopers so much the better.

Now I'm curious to see how they approach Groot. Everyone else should be pretty straightforward.

The precedent is that Chuck has consistently said 'Marvel minimates will always be based on a 2" body'.

For further examples they are making an out of scale Newt from Aliens, despite being pretty close to the same size as Rocket compared to all the other humans.

Rocket is one of 5 core characters of GotG, so should have gotten a proper minimate IMO.

As I've said a full minimate and an in scale statue would be the best of both worlds, but If I could have only one option, I'd take the full minimate any day.

** Looks like Zach just posted while I was typing the post above and disagrees with the idea of keeping Rocket a full mate. I'm sure he knows more about both the movie and the minimate making process, so I'm going to quieten down for now... At least until I've seen the full lineups for TRU and Specialty. **

    T.

  13. Rocket Raccoon is a non-poseable mini-figure. No full-size RR, sorry. Mini RR means room for Ronan, Nebula and multiple army-builders.

Assortment is shared between specialty and TRU, yes.

I'm gutted we wont be getting a proper Rocket, I love GotG and on that decision alone I have gone from must have to these to lets see them first before I'll order any.

You do have me curious on how dropping one figure gives you room for at least 3 others, Does this mean multiple uniforms are going to be made?

  14. I hate to resurrect a dead thread, and couldn't find an all-encompassing 24 thread (there were zero search results for "24", despite a manual search showing more than a few threads with "24" in the title), but...

I just started watching the show on Netflix. I'm at Noon-1pm in season 2.

And I'm realizing that Michelle Forbes, who plays the president's advisor Lynne Kresge, was Helena Cain in Battlestar Galactica (the differing hairstyles kept me from noticing it right away, but I did finally come to that conclusion without having to look it up online).

Helena Cain, who we got as a Minimate.

Please tell me I'm not the first person to think up using Cain's head for a Lynne quick custom for their 24 collection (small as it may be sad.png )...

    You're not...

Also I was looking at these earlier and they are going to end up as one of those forgotten minimate lines, but were pretty cool IMO.

  15. dang these are at Jantzen Beach now? i just went all the way out to Tigard to get them on Sunday! Jantzen Beach would have been much closer. Were there many Winter Soilder sets left?

There were two packs, I picked one up and left the other. There were a bunch of the other sets though.

    That was on Saturday.
