  1. Tomb Raider is the most recognizable video game character in the world, and has starred in two movies. Kratos is, and has, not. Would have been cool, though.

Sony gets paid a guarantee regardless of how well they sell. I'm sure if the Sony line had done well at retail, we'd have tried to do another. But I don't think it did.

Before you pay high prices on eBay for them, ask anybody on this board to pick them up for you at TRU. Pretty sure most places still have them on sale.

  2. Here's a question Zach. You mentioned Humans. Are we going to see people wearing the Battle Beasts armor at any time? Like Machiko from the Predator comics? Hawt chick armor? Something like this.

    4_avp_she_predator_machiko.jpg

In fact, I could see that in the next Femme Fatales box set.

The main human character of the comic is a woman, but I don't know that she'll wear armor, and I don't know that she'll ever make it into Femme Fatales. But once we see her, feel free to Ask DST.

And I do get it. I'm sure if someone launched a line called C.O.P.S, I would be pretty irrational about it, especially if it didn't include the classic characters. But if they were still cops, and still in the future, and the toys were as cool as the old ones, I would reserve judgment. I certainly wouldn't swear off the line because it lacked cap-firing action.

  3. Nice overkill on the BB collection Kyle!

So Zach, are any of the Battle Beasts that are planned female or are there plans for any? I am genuinely curious and not just planning on asking for a squirrel girl in two different Minimates lines.

You know, I'm not sure! Not that I know of.

And watch out, Ninja Mate -- now they know you have extras!

  4. I honestly don't know what many of the LRG community have against Minimates -- some are offended by Vorin's square thighs -- but I think the figures will speak for themselves. I think our designs are superior to the other figures out there, the comic characters will be compelling, and the interchangability will win over any doubters.

As far as the storyline goes, the planet they're on in the beginning is not their home planet. I bellieve it is just a random planet. My understanding of the Beasts is that they're nomads, and their people actually left Earth a long time ago, and they lost the way back. You'll see clothing that references human clothing because they have the same origins. The call they hear is their first clue to the location.of their long-lost home, as well as a powerful artifact. Everyone calls them more fantasy-based than science-based, but their ships and weapons are certainly not primitive. And while watching two animal factions battle is pretty awesome, I think humans will emphasize the foreign nature of Beast culture, as well as make the storyline more accessible to casual fans.

Hope to see some Minimates customs in the future, Delta. Nice to meet you at C2E2, even if I didn't know who I was meeting. Did I shoot your Build-A-Mate?

  5. I was talking about the very first gator revealed back in 2009 during the SDCC. One was displayed with the now canceled Laboratory playset. It was more yellow than gold.

    IMG_5770.jpg

We only make one prototype, usually. That one may be around somewhere, may be in China, I don't know.

  6. Don't know exact numbers, but there are no Gators left in the office. Some staff members have one, I don't. Gave my only one (gold, I think) away in a contest. First Gator was silver, at NYTF 2010. Maybe 200 of those? C2E2 and SDCC, maybe 600 each? The Carry Case one, I have no idea, but maybe a similar number. The red Vorin promo, we made 600.

  7. The ones shown at SDCC weren't statues, they were prototype figure sculpts, but I've never seen them, and we have no plans to make them. The designs are 180 degrees from what we're doing with IDW, and right now we're just making Minimates. But we aren't ruling out line expansions if the toy line and/or comic do well.

Zach the Mack? No. But I did design and print all the shirts we wore at C2E2, so anything is possible.

  8. I can't believe it... They kept stringing us along all this time. It's a shame he's finally getting made. Now we have nothing left to look forward to.

We still have Gideon to nag for!

Gideon will be out in 2022. So somebody better paint a ponytail green and make that custom, stat.

  9. The heads are blank grey underneath (I said I was PRETTY SURE we never got that reference), and the general does come with a different gun, but I don't think it's that one. You can see it better here:

    newgroup.jpg

...Actually, it might be something vaguely resembling that one. Perhaps we weren't given a context for it? Might require a mod to be fully screen accurate.

  10. I'm thinking about opening this....is this a wise decision?

It's worth opening, I think. Unless you need money real bad. Very nice of your local retailer to offer his to you. Hope he didn't charge you a mint.

Need money I do, but this was a gift (no charge btw). I will not be selling it, but I do like my figures to be in their Sunday best. However, since advice came from Zach "The Mack"(???) himself, I will be playing with this immediately.

Also, did these cost anything? Or were they hand outs? Going to feel bad if he actually bought me something there.

Your retailer definitely likes you. But yes, he got it for free. Everyone who attended the Diamond Comics Retailer Summit, which overlapped with C2E2, received a coupon book, and we manufactured a more plain version of the giveaway especially for those retailers, so they could see what we were working on.

  11. Can anyone give me a primary source where the name was revealed? By Whedon or whomever? I am looking, but haven;t found it yet.

Pretty much just Google "Joss confirms alien army" and you'll get hundreds of links to people reporting that he stated the name at a press conference. It was so many days ago (in internet terms) that the original source is probably too far down the ladder now.

But yes, we all already know.

That's just it, I find the same quote everywhere, but no full transcript of the conference, and no footage of it. Just odd, is all. Even the quote doesn't make sense.

  12. Of course you put that up just as I'm about to do something, Zach. God, how do I compete with that?

Dude, that's a great shot! And a great Orson Randall! I love dramatic uplighting. I shot a couple of my MvC3 match-ups on a fluorescent light mounted in our stairwell, and thought they came out pretty cool, but yours is much cooler.

I've got one of the old Playmates Trek teleporter pads, and I'm gonna try and light it up when I shoot my Jacob Keyes Halo Minimate, like he's leaning over a tabletop display. No idea if it's game-accurate, just seemed like it would be cool.

Sorry to c-block you, man. I'll make it up to you somehow.

    Moon Knight > Batman

Given that Moon Knight currently suffers form multiple personality disorder, this is quantitatively true.

I'm really happy with how this one came out. Beautiful sunset, otherworldly lampposts...

  14. Nope, we won't be there. We're a small team, and we can't go to every show, or production would grind to a halt. One trip to Chicago a year, one trip to the West Coast, one trip to New York. (Toy Fair doesn't count, as it's closed to the public.) Also, we'll be at Star Wars Celebration, but I'm not sure were bringing any Minimates.

But I used to work at Wizard World Chicago/Chicago Comic-Con, so I'm glad it's still around. Have fun!
