  1. Kang set is currently sold out online

Hope everyone who wanted him purchased one!

Zach, are you able to confirm if DisneyStore.com is truly sold out of stock or if they will be getting more of these?

I can certainly ask. It may be like toysrus.com, they just need to request more from a central inventory. I guess this has never come up before? Did Heroic Age ever sell out? I know Future Foundation didn't.

  2. The key thing to remember is that any version has to be recognized as Captain America. Zach's made it very clear that DST, or Marvel, or both, doesn't consider the Commander Rogers getup a variation of Captain America, even though I think all of us would disagree. But, hey, it's not our job, so it's not our decision. I would then assume that things like Peter Parker with a bag on his head in an FF uniform wouldn't count as a Spider-Man variant, or Johnny Blaze in his Spirits of Vengeance look. Frog Thor, of course, is a variation of Thor, though. Because he's Thor. As a frog. Frog Thor.

Hellpop gets it. Commander Rogers carries a shield, and wears a blue suit, but without the mask, he's not really Captain America -- from a sales perspective. Notice we never package Captain America maskless.

  3. Hey Zach, I ask this here, because you mentioned flame hair. I think it may be time to retire the same old worn out, somewhat dull/soft looking (compared to the much more hard edged sculpts of the newer mates) original flame head. I hate that thing, and just think its time for an upgrade. Any chance of this ever happening, I just don't think it holds up, and been on my mind for some time now.

    Thanks again

Absolutely. That's the primary reason the figure needs an upgrade, because the old Minimate style was all soft curves, and the new stuff has crisper detail. There have been some legal issues with GR lately, otherwise you would have seen more GRs, but I believe it's been cleared up. And, as I've said, he's in the first poll.

... Which is now going up on Tuesday. Apparently, the glitch is more serious than Marvel.com thought.

  4. Poll might still go up today, but some last minute tweaks may affect that. I think one of the Marvel.com team is West Coast, so there's hope.

    A few disclaimers:

Old West Ghost Rider is not as recognizable as movie star Ghost Rider. I'd love to see a Minimate of him, but for this poll we only looked at flamey heads.

And Commander Rogers is not Captain America. Not that you could tell by looking at him, at least. BUT that doesn't mean he's not in a poll.

  5. I've been helping out a US member get a UK magazine called 'Thundercats' which retails at less than $5,each issue is bagged up with all manner of free gizmos that the reader/fan gets ......anyone seeing my point ?

You want us to polybag a comic book... with a Minimate?

    For Reference...

    Thundercats Magazine

I don't know how they publish a glossy (?) full-color magazine with a packaged (!) Sword of Omens for under five bucks -- can't imagine what kind of numbers Panini publishes of it -- but that's certainly impressive. I'll pass along the suggestion. A comic book plus a sculpted and painted Minimate would probably cost six or seven bucks at least, though. Even if it was a squat, flat, misshapen Minimate like that Sword of Omens.

The incentive cover is an old comic book industry staple, that's why we went this route.

  6. Zach, this is a bit off-topic but tied to the topic at the same time, since The Avengers has definitely elevated the Hulk to casual fans, has there been any talk of increasing Hulk presence in 'mates? I mean aside from just the big man himself, will we see more of his supporting characters?

Other than variations of Hulk(I'm lumping Red Hulk in with him) has there been a Hulk-related character in the line since the Hulk movie wave? Hulk buster Iron Man doesn't count.

Define Hulk-related character -- a lot of his most famous friends and opponents connect to other Marvel areas, as well, and th ones that are SOLELY his... TTF is right, they're insanely obscure.

But I'm currently reading the Hulk: Pardoned collection, and not only does he fight the Abomination, he teams up with Sasquatch to fight the Wendigo, he fights the U-Foes solo, he even visits Rocket Raccoon's planet. It's an amazing series of guest-stars, and while some are obscure (the U-Foes have been my fave since I learned about them in the Handbook, but they are not crossover characters), some are big enough that I think we'll get to them sooner rather than later. And my favorite obscure guys so far have been the three guys who hunt him down at the start of the storyline to enlist his aid: The Hulk Hunters!

  7. Don't think of it as a wishlist, so much as a way to pass the time until mid June. Otherwise the thread will die and slip to the second page by the time of the poll, which will mean some well meaning soul will start a new thread about the set when the poll comes out, and it''s be 9 or so posts in before someone starts complaining that we already had a thread for this, that will take up another 4 or 7 posts of fuss, snark and apology. This thread will be nerco'd, the two threads will run concurrently for a while, until one of the mods merge them, confusing everyone involved.

So instead, every couple of pages someone will wander in here asking what the theme of the poll set is, because the facts of the matter will be 20 pages back and NOBODY reads every page in these massive threads. OR they will get all excited that, based on the current page's raging debate, the theme is apparently Former Great Lakes Avengers. (Cue rampant speculation as to why I randomly chose that team name out of all the team names I could have chosen.)

So to save us from all that, we'll wander hoplessly off topic, into and out of wishlist mode, until the actual day there's something relevant to talk about. Believe me, you'd rather that than when it actually gets quiet around here. That's just... creepy.

Yes, because there is nothing else to talk about. May I suggest the Series 49 thread? I hear it's a hotbed of activity, considering it's about a line that doesn't exist yet.

  8. FYI, the comic is a strong PG-13. A vulture gets a knife to the head in the first issue. Not sure how old the kids at your camp are, Jeff.

And if this gets retailers to have extra copies in their store, that's good for us. Most would order 5-10, sell those out, and not re-order more. If 25 people have a chance to pick up the issue in a shop, then that's 25 people learning about our toys. And that's sales a retailer can see, and will use as a basis for their next comic (and toy) order.

Luke, if you're selling 400 comic books at cost (or close to it), you are definitely a saint. Saint Luke, patron saint of Minimates.

  9. I live in NY so will be sending a friend just didn't know if there is a booth number or a limit or any of that fun jazz :)

I don't believe they've assigned booth numbers yet, but I will check. And I don't think we'll be limiting people. We don't want to bring any home.

here is me talking out my butt but any chance of maybe setting out some proto's for sale also? I found out about the joy of these things two days ago and searched till my eyes bled to get all the old stuff that came out.. needless to say.. 2 down 2 to go but.. would be nice if I could snag some of it off you gents there :)

Protos? Do you mean promos? No, we won't be selling promos. They were promos. We gave them all out. If we held some back and started selling them, that would be bad.

Great color scheme and very nice paint job. Maybe I'll start recoloring my BB collection, since I think that look is awesome, but we won't/can't get something as extraordinary in a mass production.

    We keep trying, Bob.

  10. How will this Daredevil differ from wave 43?

It will be in a different box...

    He'll be blind boxed...

That's awesome. Yeah, it will be the same as 43. Last TRU/LCS shared figure for the foreseeable future. Historic occasion. Buy multiples.

  11. They sent out the Black widow and hawkeye set to toysrus right? I cant seem to find them anywhere.

EDIT: I just noticed my captain america's chest star thing is off center. Is there anything I can do about that or Do I need to deal with it?

Yup, they went to Toys R Us. They may have sold out, but they made it there. My local TRU sold out of Avengers Mates in the first week.

    How off-center is the star?

And welcome to the board posting on the board!

  12. This all sounds awesome, Zach. I think you've definitely got us all pumped for wave 50 by letting us contribute/vote. It's a great gesture to us fans.

Well, I thought about what fans would want for Series 50, and I realized they'd want to pick the line-up. This may not be the perfect, most democratic method, but I think it ensures a certain amount of coolness and a certain amount of craziness.

And I did NOT put anybody in the poll who we were definitely doing. If anything, this poll has temporarily taken some of your top choices off the table until the polling is finished. Once the polls are over, we will look at the runners-up and see if they make sense for future waves. I don't THINK there are any glaring omissions -- to be honest, not many of the top choices on that list were in the works -- but I'm sure you'll all guess at possibilities once Poll #2, 3 and 4 run. (Poll #1 reveals nothing except that there ARE still cool and interesting versions of A-listers to be made.)

  13. Just make the wrecking crew and get it over with already!!!!

You know we've wanted them for years.

But does anyone else? If Spider-Man was in the Wrecking Crew, we'd have made it years ago. I hope we'll do it someday, but not as a TRU exclusive. Maybe at a con. We'll see how this year's sets do.

I think so. I could certainly build an argument that they're wanted more than the Age of X or Mutants vs Vampires sets or the MvC variants from last year's con (granted, I realize there are budget restrictions that have to be followed in that case).

Just hope it gets done at some point, no matter how it gets released.

If you want to argue that they're wanted more than Age of X and Curse of the Mutants, go right ahead. Those were comic-shop sets, and they were hurt by distance from what eventually proved to be less-than-timeless source material. (Hindsight is 20/20.)

This poll is for a Toys R Us set, and I don't think the casual TRU buyer has any idea who the Wrecker and his three goons are. The Galactus set had Galactus. The Cap set had Cap. Those are anchor characters that can attract a casual buyer. Plus, this is a poll set, which means the poll would include the Wrecking Crew and two other guys. Heroes would make the most sense, which would mean, by toysrus.com voting logic, we'd end up getting the two heroes and two members of the Wrecking Crew in the set. A good start, I suppose, but even if we did get to the unmade figures, I don't feel too confident about the sell-through on the Bulldozer and Piledriver two-pack. Maybe split them into two two-packs? With Thor and Spidey?

Anyway, this is all hypothetical until next year, because this year's poll set is not The Wrecking Crew-themed. I think it would be good for a con, but I think this year's con sets will be the real test.

  14. Here is some fun news.

Apparently, According to the description in the computer, this wave is coming to TRU Canada.... within the next couple of weeks.

Not the TRU wave, specifically wave 44.

    Happy Hunting my fellow Canadians.

That must be an error. Has that system ever been wrong before? I don't believe that set would be sold into TRU anywhere.
