  1. I didn't see them on the DST shipping list

I guess that confirms that West Coast Wins Again!

    Muahahahaha

That'd be a nice change... I could use a minimate fix or two!

I'm still trying to figure out this West Coast thing - since it's on the ship list for the LCS that Storm goes to, it may show up this week, even if it's not on the DST ship list? Is that how it works?

    Storm, are you West Coast?

I think the trick is that us West Coasters get them a week early. So that is pretty much how it works.

  2. The shipping list is what Diamond is supposed to be shipping out to the comic shops across the US each week.

However, there is some discrepancy as far as the West Coast typically getting Minimates a week before they get shipped to everyone else. This has been going on the whole time. The comic shop I do work for is good about ordering most anything minimates (and they are big 24 fans, so I don't think the missed these) and they are not coming in to our shop this week.

  3. Well, the figures are okay, I guess. But unless they get some licensed characters, I don't really see these taking off.

Sigh. The whole point is that they are NOT licensed - these are made by their creator, in his vision, for the sake of making toys that are fun and original. They are not supposed to take off - they are meant to be played with and enjoyed. I don't mean to attack you, but I think you've completely missed the point.

These are more influenced by Micromen anyway. I really want some. The DX and Toybuzz are lit up about these guys right now.

  4. If Hasbro can sub-license 12-inch action figures to Sideshow, they can sub-license the block figure category.

Better yet – since hard-to-find chase figures are a tool of the devil – maybe Hasbro could keep the license and simply offer Star Wars Minimates through AA the same way DC Direct does.

Hasbro does Q&A's on lots of collecting sites. Probably better off asking them directly if they have any interest in the category (seeing how well Kubricks have been doing) or if they'd be willing to give another manufacturer the chance.

My feeling on the matter is that it comes down to money. Lucas wants a piece, Hasbro wants a piece, everybody wants their piece. This business is fun, but it is still business, which means money, which means that if DST won't make enough money, then it isn't worth it. Sure, Star Wars will sell pretty well, but will it sell enough? And that question probably can't even be asked, because somebody at Hasbro is thinking up some way to make that money for themselves. The day that we see some sort of knock-block-figure from Hasbro is the day we know that Minimates have truly made it.
