  1. Shame Katie Holmes is involved again though. She didn't bring anything to Batman Begins.

According to (I believe it was) Wizard, Katie will pretty much only be returning so that her character can be killed off fairly early in the film...

Can't say that I was dissapointed when I read that :P

  2. Sculpey is best for sculpting new, seperate parts, while Milliput is best for sculpting onto an existing figure.

This is exactly what I've been wanting to know - So I checked out the Milliput website and found that there are 4 types of Milliput (Standard Yellow-Grey, Silver Grey, Superfine White, and Terracotta) ... I would assume that Superfine White would be the best way to go for sculpting onto Minimates. Am I correct?

  3. Art Asylum I belive.

handsomevil> The SDCC list is still active. :P

I could be wrong, but I think he posted that for the unlikely event that WWC has an exclusive different than the John Stewart mini... like if they decided to give out a Hawkgirl at this con as opposed to John...

  4. Yeah, they could do a "Hawk" 2-pack. That would make sense.... woudn't it?

I would think that'd be a smart move for them. But as much as I'd like that two pack, I have a sinking feeling that either AA or DC won't like the idea for some odd reason...

And they could give us an Angel in the Marvel wave ...

Very true. But the first thing that came to mind when I read that was "do we really want Angel and Hawkman/girl to have the same wings?" The purist in me thinks that it would be better if the wings were different.

But if it came right down to it, I wouldn't mind at all if the wings are the same - because at least we would finally have an Angel minimate. That is one parts reuse that I would have no issue with :D

What do the rest of you think?

  5. Yeah, that's my thought as well. From a business standpoint, it makes more sense to produce a figure that has had more mainstream attention... though up until she started getting more attention (cartoon), I would have just naturally assumed that Hawkman would be made first. But yeah, my wager is that we'll see Hawkgirl first.

  6. Also, I may have missed this but how did Paul figure out who the "seven sisters" were. Two of them weren't even related! Was it the fact that they're the only women of similar ages that live in the cove?

Yeah, that was an easy thing to get lost on. There was a relatively quick comment about how it was 'a group of 5, plus 2' (or something to that affect), and he sorta repeats it when he lines them up to do the healing.

  7. I went into it expecting to be somewhat disappointed, cuz I had read several reviews that totally bashed it (still, I enjoyed The Village *for some reason that I still can't quite figure out* and that got a lot of bad reviews) ... but my main draw to the movie was my respect for Shyamalan's vision and storytelling. That, and I love how he does his infamous twist endings.

To my chagrin, there was no twist ending. It, to me, felt like a poor mix between The Village's tedious duration, and Signs' lack of surprise ending.

I managed to over look some of the less-than-entertaining aspects of the movie because I was spending my entire time paying as close attention as I could to detail and constantly working through in my mind what the twist might possibly be...

So needless to say, I was disappointed when I walked out of the theater.

But then again, I was disappointed when I left The Village, because I had seen Signs so many times that I was looking for something more like that, rather than what The Village was intended to be. And after watching The Village a few more times, I began to appreciate it more and more... So I'm thinking the more I see Lady In The Water, and the more I begin to see it as Shyamalan intended for it to be seen, the more I will begin to like it...

Can some please post spoiler filled summary of the movie? And is there a twist ending?

Well, basically, The main character (Paul Giamatti) is an apartment-complex superintendent who crosses paths with the 'Lady' (Brice Dallas Howard). The Lady turns out to be a Narf, a water-dwelling Nymph-like creature from long long ago, whose only tie to the present is the stories of their kind which have now been turned into a children's bed-time fairy tale.

The whole premise of the movie is that this Nymph has to find and interact with a specific person. But not just any person - this person is vital to the advancement of society. In this instance, it is a man (played by Shamalan - his first 'big' role in one of his own movies) who writes a book that will later become vital in the life of a boy who will someday be the President of America. The trouble starts when she has to get back to her own world, but is held up by a Scrunt, a mythical creature who wants nothing but to stop this Lady from accomplishing her mission and getting back home. This is where it gets a little choppy - the only way she can accomplish this is by finding a moderate number of people who play specific roles (such as a guardian, a healer, etc). They formulate a plan and enact it in hopes of returning Story (that's the name of the Nymph) to her home. The "plot twists" come in when the characters are trying to figure out what role they play. It's nothing extraordinary, and just about all of them are obvious enough.

I'd have to say that the best parts of the movie are the very beginning (the animated segment where the story is set up) because it fuels your imagination for something grand and extraordinary; and the end (the scene with the eagle and the protector monkey-things called Tartutics) The coolest scene single aspect of the movie, to me, was the Tartutics. I just think they looked cool.

My overall thought on the movie...

I think Shyamalan should have focused the entire movie in a world where only these creatures exist... maybe find some way to transport one single human into the world of the Narfs or the Scrunts or what have you, and let the majority of the interaction be the human fulfilling a mission and in turn, finding a place, in this new world. And at the end, have a twist ending ala The Village or 6th Sense...

I have noticed that (between The Village and Lady) Shyamalan hits his greatest intensity and entertaining/fulfilling-ness when he features fantasy-creatures. When I thought that the monsters in The Village were real creatures, I was rivited... and when the final scene of Lady played, with the Tartutics and the Eagle... it was a climax that didn't fit the tandom of the rest of the movie...

    Well, that's my personal opinion.

Every so often I find myself trying to make more out of the movie... I keep wanting to convince myself that there was a deep, underlying plot twist in there that I never picked up on because I missed some subtle detail...

I keep having that one phrase at the beginning running though my head: "over time, humans have forgotten how to listen" ... And I wonder to myself if that was the theme, and hidden somewhere in that movie is a huge plot twist that nobody has stumbled over yet...

  8. Whoa.

That's a huge step! Congrats on getting this way cool honor - this illiminates any thought that Minimate Multiverse is just a fan board. Gaining recognition from the companies themselves in this way is a wonderul sign. Few people can say that they've achieved something this cool, especially in such a relatively short period of time.

Congratulations on making such huge progress - your work is definitely paying off B)

  9. Considering that they're planning on releasing these minis in conjunction with the new movie, I'm guessing it's safe to assume that they're going to be based on the new movie. What I'm wondering is if they're going to include a 'flashback' sort of mini of Rocky, or if the only incarnations we see of him will be complete with a walking stick.

    heh heh...

Okay, alright. I've had my fun.

Seriously, though, I do think that this (if it does indeed stay afloat and doesn't dissapear like the X3 minis) will be a great opportunity for minimates. The Rocky films were always popular, and this new one is getting some big attention. And big attention to a movie means big attention to the products tied to it.

The plans that AA have been having with minimates recently give me great hope for what kinds of minimate products we will be getting in the future B)

  10. I want to remeber that the exclusive Punisher and Justice Lord Superman share the same hair piece.

Actually, to be technical and anal :P , it was the regular Superman who had the same hairpiece as Punisher. Justice Lord Superman's hairpiece has a peg for the peg-hole headed minimates; the exclusive Punisher and original Superman minis came out before that change took place...

  11. I remember back in the day when the OverPower card game was still alive... Marvel pioneered the whole concept, and when DC saw that there was a market for it, they jumped onboard (but with a new feature - the intelligence attribute). No sooner did DC do this than Marvel went and matched suit; all of their previously released (3 waves) character cards were re-released with the new intelligence attribute. Then Image Comics jumped onboard the OverPower bandwagon. And less than a year later, the game died.

My point is... Marvel may have sucked eggs recently, but when given the opportunity to beat the competition in something that they started (while the other guys just stood around and watched) ... well, I have faith that Marvel will figure out what they're doing and get their act back together and raise the bar again.

So with all that said, I think the introduction of these totally kick-butt DC minis can only be good for the consumers - we get more characters (finally, I can have my JLA!), and Marvel now has a viable (in sense of business terms) reason to give us what we want - better quality and more characters :D \

I just hope minimates don't live up to the life-span of OverPower and die a slow painful death now...

  12. I'm totally jumping on with TMNT, and I've (secretly) been working on some Power Ranger customs...

but if we do ever get officially licensed Power Ranger minis, I will only be satisfied with the original series costumes:

    Mighty Morphin Power Rangers:

    Rita Repulsa and Putty Patroller

    Blue (Billy) and Black (Zach)

    Pink (Kimberly) and Yellow (Trini)

    Red (Jason) and Green (Tommy)

Red (Jason) and White (Tommy) *Variant

Lord Zed and second wave Putty Patroller *Con/Store exclusive

    Nintendo:

    Link and Ganondorf

    Zelda and Shiek

    Samus and Ridley

    Zero and Mega Man X

Zero and Mega Man X (with full armor upgrades) *Variant

    Mario and Luigi *Con/Store exclusive

    Serenity/Firefly:

    Simon and River

    Zoe and Wash

    Jayne and Kaylee

    Mal and Shepherd Book

    Mal and Inara *Variant

The Operative and generic Alliance Soldier *Con/Store exclusive

  13. Not to argue against using AFX and giving revenue to the board... but I don't use AFX to order new sets due to the randomness of variants. Corner Store Comics guarantees that you get every minimate in the wave, including variant. AFX doesn't have that certainty, and from what I understand, several of the board members have tried ordering sets and not gotten the varients that they wanted...
