  1. Just wondering...would it be alright if I made a "Definitive Checklist" similar to Lurch's, but Muggs instead of Mini's? I didn't want to, I don't know, muscle in on a department that isn't mine. :)

Just thought it might be helpful for those wishing to get started collecting late in the game. If I get the authorization, I'll do it either later tonight or tomorrow.

  2. I'm interested in your argument about the length of deaths, Nestle. It seems like, if a character dies and comes back a few issues later, it is not OK, but it is OK if they die and come back years later. Since the end result is the same, and death is pretty much a completely meaningless concept in funny books (since it only lasts as long as the writers/editors of the comics want it to last), why does the length matter to you?

I'm honestly curious, I'm not trying to pick a fight. It just all seems the same to me. Personally, I am glad that the original Hourman was brought back to life (is he still "alive" in the comics? He hasn't been in the new JSA series from what I've seen).

I was thinking the same thing. To me, personally, bringing a character back from "death" only a few issues later is meaningless, stupid, and as you said Nestle--insulting. However, bringing a character back YEARS later seems like poor planning, and an insult to the creative staff that was on board at the time of said character's demise. Pulling a character out of the bottom drawer, only to realize he's dead, then resurrect him/her to suit their purpose (and then often kill him off again shortly afterward, ala Wonder Man) is always how that's looked to me (I understand it may not actually happen that way). It shows a disrespect to the fanbase, because they seem to figure we really don't care either way--we just want comics, and "retro" characters somehow make the comics more "relevant."

It's certainly within the realm of possibility that there is a long term plan when writing the death of a character. Maybe they meant to bring Barry Allen back 20 years later. I really have no way of knowing.

And X-Men...oy. They're the worst. It's funny, because whenever you kill a character and bring them back, it damages the trust you have with the reader. I doubt any of us will ever believe the X-Men staff again if they tried to pull a "He's really, finally, truly dead." No matter what they told us, we'd know the character in question would pop up again sometime within the next ten/twenty years.

Also...I don't think they've ever actually killed Spider-Man. I could be wrong, of course.

Oh! And I pick Nightwing. :) I think he'd be the best choice, but I also bet they'll do Drake, unfortunately. I can just see that happening.

  3. So, hopefully these will be of a little higher quality than the "Superhero Showdown" figures. . .are they being made by Hasbro? They look like they are using the 25th GI Joe body types, which would be a very good thing.

SHSD didn't look that bad in box. But that's the only place I've seen them.

And that's the ONLY place they look good. Seriously, as soon as you take 'em out (if you can even manage that) they fall apart like Scarlet Witch without an undead robot to love.

  4. Did anyone hear what was said by Joker or gordon when Gordon returned from the dead and arrested Joker? I couldn't hear over the people applauding (myself included) at that moment. (probably my favorite in the film. I really thought Gordon was dead. Logic didn't set in.)

If it makes you feel any better, I thought he was dead too. The only thing that sort of "tipped me off" was the fact that Dent said "Gordon's gone, Rachel. ...He's gone." As opposed to "he's dead."

    As to what they said:

*the metallic click of the shotgun*

Joker: "Awww...! *disappointed* Can you just--just give me one min--!"

Gordon: "Gotcha, you son of a bitch."

  5. I'm revisiting the MDKs. Really, really cool games. It's amazing to see just how much a game can improve through just one sequel. :)

Really, that's are the one game series they really should make into a movie. I mean, look at it! It's such a cinematic experience already!

  6. The common theory of the Riddler is that the accountant Reese is going to become Riddler. This is because like Edward Nigma's name is Enigma, Mr. Reese sounds like Mysteries. I think that's a little overanalytical of the movie, but who knows? It may be true.

Good Lord! You're right!! And he already knows who Batman is, through practical deduction.

    It's true.

I, for one, hope they don't do another Batman. They just can't top what they've done with this one. We'd all expect the sequel to be even better, and the chances of that are...minimal.

And, of course, the Joker's still alive--and thus, if they did a sequel, he'd have to be in it. We'd all complain if they didn't bring him back. But we'll all complain if they do bring him back, as well, because NO ONE could EVER be as could as Mr. Ledger.

"I mean...what happened? Your balls fall off, or something?"

  7. It was 2 hours, 22-26 (I just about lost track) minutes, actually. ...Ooo. I wonder if that's some "duality" Two-Face joke thingy...hmm.

It was good. No, it was great. No, it was...freaking scary. It took Batman's Rogue's Gallery and put them in the REAL world, showing them in their purest incarnations. It's almost like all these years, through all those comics, all those writers and artists...they were just trying to pull off Joker as he appeared in the film (and most of them failed miserably). How scary would someone like the Joker be if he was in your city, in your world, threatening--murdering--the people you know? Watch the movie and you'll find out.

"I think we're destined to do this forever."

    Foreboding, to say the least.

Joker was God-damn evil. To echo Trekker 42's thoughts, the Joker (as he was portrayed in the movie) was the most honest, evil, fiendish, realistic, and easily-hated film villain of all time. Please, someone try to refute me. Try.

Two-Face was also incredibly well-done. There's something I want to touch on with him when spoilers are allowed, but for now, I'll say this: I've never liked Two-Face. He's always seemed like yet another in the myriad of gimmick-based "villains" from Batman's cornier past. The coin thing, the purpley skin, the whole "rob the 2nd National Bank at 2 o'clock on February 2nd" crap...he was just stupid, in my opinion. The Dark Knight gets Two-Face right. He's a good "hero," then a very good "villain." I didn't pity him, as much as I respected him. If the Two-Face from the comics came up to me (for who knows what reason) with a deadly firearm, I probably would've chuckled. The Two-Face from the movie? I would've first lost my lunch at the sight (and probably the smell) of his charred face, known I was done for, and prayed that the coin landed in my favor. Incredible character.

Rachel Dawes was much easier to take with Ms. Gyllenhaal portraying her then in Batman Begins. The genuine fear on her face as Joker was explaining the scars...she's a good actress.

Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine were also wonderful refuges from the insanity of the Joker. I felt safer every time the scene cut to one of them. Beautiful performances by each of them.

"...and you'd like to blackmail this person? ...Good luck."

Christian Bale was of course, great as well, but we didn't get to see much of his acting ability.

Overall, it was a spectacular movie. Worth my time and money. Go see it.

  8. Aha! The Active Camo EVA is up for preorder (no money down; you just sign up to their little club, click a link, and you've got one reserved) again. I think it's open until August 9th only, so if you're interested, do it soon. :)

My set of 9 (all the mass retailer figures, plus the white "specialty" EVA) is on its way, and I bought the GameStop exclusive ODST-steel today. I must say, I really like the new packaging. I think it's the blue in the background--gives a "clean" feel, somehow.

    I'll probably be doing a groupshot--maybe even a full-on review--once I have them all, so stay tuned.

  9. I dug out old copies of these two (JR wasn't even open!) and have been playing them constantly with DOSBox ever since. Without a doubt (in my humble opinion), the most well-crafted Star Trek games ever. Point-and-click adventure games set during the Original Series, with voice acting from all the respective actors, a great storyline, easy-to-pickup gameplay, and darn good graphics? 25th and JR have it all. I was wondering if any of you had ever played either one. Did you like it? Hate it? Completely indifferent to it?

If you'd like to play it, I'm pretty sure the floppy-version of 25th (without voice-acting) is now Abandonware/freeware (is the former illegal?).

Also, there is another spiritual successor: Star Trek: The Next Generation - A Final Unity. I know we own it, but I can't find it. :( I'll be conducting a search later on.

  10. So, about a month and a half ago, I preordered the full set of 9 Halo 3 Series 2 figures from Big Bad Toy Store for a good deal. Of course, when you preorder, you give them your full information, including the credit card stuff. Their preorder tagline is:

We won't charge your card until your item ships!

Ok. Well, as some of you know, Series 2 got bumped back from June to July. I started asking at my comic shop and a few Gamestops over the last couple days, and they all said "We just got the notice that they shipped, so they should be arriving any day now."

I get an e-mail from BBTS (or rather, my father does).

Paraphrased: "We have the item in stock, but we need your credit card information to ship. Reply within nine days or your preorder is null and void."

    WTF??

We GAVE them the credit card information. Now my father (very understandably so) is very hesitant to give the information again, lest his card be hit twice. We did reply, noting we had ALREADY given the info they seek. They've yet to get back to us.

Making something out of nothing, or is something fishy here? What are you experiences with BBTS preorders?

  11. Much gratitude for doing this. We all really appreciate it.

(just thought I'd reaffirm that one more time)

    1. What prompted the cancelling of the Kelloggs 'mates?

    2. How difficult would videogame licenses be to acquire? Has DST ever considered any videogame licenses (specifically for Minimates)?

    Thanks again.

  12. It's not that you're crazy. There're plenty of douches out there who post ridiculous, ludicrous (and sometimes believable) "cheats" or "secret endings" all over those cheat sites that use user input. You should SEE the Pokemon crap people were spreading when Yellow came out. Seriously. I remember reading one when I was little, saying if you got all 151 Pokemon and went to a certain characters house, Shigeru Miyamoto would pop up on the screen, laugh, and a random amount of cash would come out of the battery slot--"anywhere between $26 to $90," he said. Disgraceful.

That and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. A kid at my church asked me if I had used the cheat to get 200 new characters. I asked him where he had heard such a load of guano. He replied, "check Cheat Bible ." He said this with such confidence and conviction, I felt I had to humor him.

    So I did.

There it was. Bullcrap. Some random button sequence, the result of which was a goldmine of secret characters. And kids are reading this and believing it. Granted, the 11-year old I talked to was not the sharpest hunk of cheese, but I know there are others like him out there.

Isn't anyone thinking of the children?

  13. Forget what I said. It was an opinion inappropriately expressed in the wrong place at the wrong time. I apologize. Obviously, those statements do not reflect the opinions of Minimate Multiverse as a whole, its management, or its members (besides myself). Thank you.

Yeah, 52 is confusing. DC's confusing as a whole.

    Ummm, I read them once, so I guess they're not 100% mint... I would give 'em a 99%. :P

Sounds like most of my comics. :D Thanks for the offer, though.

  14. Uh, whatever happened to this guy?

    http://www.spawn.com/toys/product.aspx?product=3481

I mean, that was supposed to come out (at the least) a month ago. I can't find a single one on eBay, nor can I find a single review. Is McFarlane being tardy, or are those who bought them just being incredibly hush-hush?

And dang, I need that Hellspartan. Beautiful.

I've got all of the first series, and waiting anxiously for the second series to arrive from BBTS. They were supposed to arrive this month, but on McFarlane's website they bumped it to July. Crapmonkeys.

Oh--and have you guys seen the new, cheaper-looking but more economically/environmentally friendly packaging on these guys and all other soon-to-be released McFarlane action figure products?

    http://www.spawn.com/toys/media.aspx?produ...aging_01_dp.jpg

Some pretty whoopass new pics of Master Chief 2 are also up.

  15. Alpheon, you should've got the word out here.

I'm trying to sell off all my old comics for cvheap and Freeddom Force is in there. :P

Ah, crap. :( Just goes to show I need to come to my friends first. I wound up paying $2.99 for each (a set of six). Oy. Out of curiosity...are yours still sealed?

And I read the synopsis for Marvel 1985 on good ol' Wikipedia. Sounds...odd. Where's it all going, I wonder?

  16. I'm working my way back to having a readily avaiable net access at the home but the real good news is I got all of my mates back from Oklahoma so I may have some stuff to trade and whatnot.
Sounds promising. :) Good to have you back, hope your foundation is created without a hitch, and welcome once more into the Multiverse!
  17. Daxter. Absolutely. I still love that game.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters was not difficult. Unless you're talking about beating it 100%. I'm still working on that. But difficult? Great game, though. As are its siblings.

Get a DOOM homebrew!! Immediately! :D

And of course...the LucasArts Adventure Games through ScummVM. ;)
