1. Hey thanks for the suggestion!

That is a really cool Batmobile, however at over $100 and the pure fact it is built to Lego Minifigure specifications would mean i'd still have to tweak it and modify it just to fit a Minimate figure. It is probably the right size, in terms of height, but i think my best chance would be to custom build my own based on the blue prints of the small and larger versions made in c3.

I will get round to doing it, but right now the actual bulk of my cash is going on the batcave itself.

  2. Great shots, Mini-Myte! I especially like the kick-effect in the Rachet/Clank one.

Does it really look like a kick? I was going for a "wrech swing" with a big follow through (like a basseball pitcher), hence why Ratchet's leg is in the air.

I like all of these, the Ratchet one i thought he'd backheel kicked him, kind of like a disguised kick with his backleg.

Either way the shots and composition of this regular comic are a treat :)

  3. I'm really surprised that given the popularity of this Super Villain that Kang hasn't been made, he was quite the sought after guy in the Fantastic Four Classics,(ML scale), then they re-released him more recently in the Hasbro ML line.

Maybe he could be released in 4 pack of Marvel Super Villains or something?? :)

Given the length of this thread, the number of personal signatures and avatars involving Kang, and the optional board decoration theme, it kind of cracks me up that your comment seems to be made entirely without irony.

and yet here we still are without a Kang Minimate?

  4. Awesome selections, I only recently got Mr.Sinister in my Minimates and he's one of the real standouts, Minimates in general i've always thought for their own small stature are actually high quality figures, i know some people have had some QC issues but unless i've missed a massive batch of bad ones compared to the QC issues plaguing other lines i've always been really impressed with them.

It would of been nice to see Doomsday in Minimate form, i've checked the database and he doesn't seem to of been made.

    Something like this>

    2520941351_b590277188.jpg

But just scaled down would of been perfect.

  5. So, Is this still 'Welcome to the Multiverse' I mean it says you've lurked for years? I guess that could work right?

It's great you are a Marvel fan, i'll be honest even though Marvel takes priority on my Minimates Wants list i don't know enough about the characters histories to write about them in Minimate form, but i've always liked the comics when i have read them.

Now you've dipped your toe in might as well dive in hey?

I hope you make alot of friends and enjoy yourself here in the community.

My last update was almost 1 week ago, there has been a legitimate reason for this, as i was waiting on the arrival of my Lego Power Functions pieces. Obviously as the end of the project draws closer the updates will be bigger but spread out and less frequent.

On with the pictures and goodness hey? Here as always is an updated list of what has changed since the last update of 19th of January, followed in sequence by the pictures to reflect those updates.

    Added Features

*changed the design of the Grandfather clock, added pendulum and painted it gold.

*extended the wall piece and included a custom painted gold picture frame.

*assembled and installed the furniture for the Study Room, including personal computer & desk, bookcase, lamp & couch.

*added the 3rd floor exterior wall to the study.

*finished the left hand side of the exterior wall and replaced incorrect colour bricks to the 3rd floor.

*finished the back monitor display for the computer room.

*added the 1x2 Grey corner pieces into the Elevator Chamber. (this isn't so noticeable but is quite intergral to the support between the 2nd and 3rd floors).

    Elevator Development!

It has taken the best part of 24 hours to work out the mechanics of the Elevator and despite many frustrations, with the help of some online friends i was able to assemble a working elevator, you can see this from the pictures links below.

    http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7158/6754808805_c461c93999.jpg

Also i've uploaded a very short video showing the elevator working, some points of note:

*This is a preliminary design, intended to work out the mechanics, the next step is to reduce the bricks and size and try and install it into the batcave.

*The elevator car appears to stick at the base of the chamber, i'm intending to modify the holding chamber so the car slots in and moves alot more freely, i'll possibly use tile pieces so there isn't as much friction.

    Looking ahead

I am pretty close now to a final model, with the exception of the tiles and plates needed to finish the study and furniture (replacement of correct coloured bricks) the exterior wall and windows to the study and the installation of the Batcave its pretty much finished.

My intentions to keep adding to the batcave would be to install a small driveway and rockery to cover the entrance, for the Batmobile, this will come at a much later date though so expect there to be a substantial gap between the main building development and the driveway.

I hope you liked this update, if you are a Youtube user please add my account and request my friendship, it's always great to have more creative friends to talk to and share projects with. Comments and feedback are always welcome.

  7. I have used friends address in the past to order stuff in USA that isn't available to International customers, this applies both on retail sites like TRU or ebay sellers that opt not to ship internationally.

I'm sure if i wanted something badly enough i've now made enough of a positive impression that someone would be willing to help me out, having said that TRU is a massive company, I don't understand how people can sell stuff through ebay and sell internationally but TRU can't do it through their own site??

I think Lego.com ship all over the world with the exception of some marked countries, they should do a similar policy so i can buy from them direct. Thankfully we have Luke's toy store and BBTS that list minimates otherwise i'd be gouged in pricing on evilbay!

To start the day I received my Lego Power Functions pieces.

Much to the delight of Mr.Tony Stark and Reed Richards who have been given the task of assembling Bruce Wayne's Elevator for his Batcave.

Obviously Tony Stark is very excited with this news, meanwhile Reed Richards checks the wiring.

Bruce says "Don't mess up the wiring this is important!"

  9. Hey Guys,

I'm struggling to get hold of Agent Zero's hair for this custom, as well as finding Marty with the blue jeans and trainers.

They seem to be quite rare pieces if they are on ebay usually MIB and over £10. I remain hopeful someone has these pieces spare? Or maybe can sell me the full figure at low cost as figure only?

The Back to the future one seems to be harder to come by, did they only release them for a year or so? because alot of the back to the future packs seem to be quite high priced, I don't really want to shell out $ on a set or figure i'm just going to take apart and paint. Same sort of reason with Agent Zero too.

I have put a request out on the flea market for parts but nobodies biting just yet, so if you're reading this and can help. please let me know, also if you can think of alternatives to these parts then please post up suggestions and links (where possible).

    Cheers guys

    Rich

  10. First of all, the Forge custom is really good mate, any chance you could share with us the recipe for him?

It doesn't look like he'll be released as an official Mate any time soon.

Any request on who to do next?

I'd go with whatever your heart is interested in at the moment, it seems like you have a great talent for producing customs of figures/characters not yet released.

I scanned through the X-Men characters yesterday, out of the 3 not made you've already done Forge. :)

The other two were Banshee & Longshot.

    2536253380_84ee04fa68.jpg

I'd like to see you do Baron Von Strucker, kinda like the ML version but obviously shrunken down to Minimate scale.

    2217868468_8f35021c51.jpg

Finally, very well done on your customs, I can only hope that when i eventually make a start on mine that if they look anything close to the same kind of quality i'll be pleased.

  11. Wow

I totally haven't seen that decals page on luke's toystore before, and i've been on there loads of times, i must of missed it is there not a link on the site shop page?

I didn't realise you could print out faces and stuff to stick onto the bodies of Minimates? What process is used, do they just glue on or are they printed on professionally?

I think to truely get those personality looks for the BBT cast you'd have to make them stickers, otherwise they might look too generic civilian.

I'd like to move into film/tv customs but i have too much on atm, i still have a big % of my DC/Marvel wants to chase and my Batcave to finish, eventually when I have finished or neared completion of my wants list if i do go into customs they will most likely be videogame Icons rather than film/tv. :)

  12. Got a new arrival of Minimates in this morning which I am really really pleased about! :)

    6735134367_e2285259fb_z.jpg

My second deal completed with Rob (buttheadsmate)many from my Wants list obtained,

I got new replacement arms for Ultimate Cyclops and replacement head for my series 6 IM.

    I also got:

Lex Luthor, Harley Quinn, Ms.Marvel, Ultron, Captain America, Absorbing Man, Venom, 90s Storm, Professor Xavier, The Riddler & Deathstroke!

With the arrival of Harley & Riddler I'd imagine my Batman will be kept busy, just as well he has a Batcave to hide in

Many thanks to Buttheadsmate for the superb assist, just off now to the feedback thread and leave you a comment.

    Thanks you so much.

  13. I voted on the following categories.

    Best Overall Company

Best Overall Line - High End & Low End.

    Best Female Figure 5-11"

    Best Vehcile or Playset

    Best Block Figures/Building Set Figures

    Hope DST does well! :)

It's an unfortunate categorization, and I'd love to remove the construction set component to level the playing field, but you can't compare a Minimate to a fully sculpted 3.75 inch figure, they're too different.

But thank you guys so much for your support.

I definately think the categories should be more suited to scale. I could understand comparing figures in the 3.75 inch range, with other figures of that size but really think it sucks that Minimates are lumped in with them. It would be similar to me comparing a built to rule gijoe figure with a street fighter from sota. two different scales.

Ah well, I voted, lets hope they'll change it at some point in the future to better reflect the scale. :)

Personally, I don't think there's any toy line that can compete with Minimates when it comes to quality vs. affordability.

I think that is spot on myself. :)

  14. There are several old comics where they had diagrams of the Baxter Building, including the old original Official Hanbook of the Marvel Universe. I'm not suggesting you follow those exactly unless your pockets are deeper than we imagine (and if so, can I hit you up for cash?) but they could provide you with some ideas of rooms you could make. And of course there's the obligatory labratory with all the crazy Kirby tech in it, that's a must. Oh, and something Kirby-esque in the lab that looks heavy and is designed for Thing to hold, so he can complain about how long he's been "holdin' this blasted dookhicky still already".

I'm assuming you mean the Jpg of 'Inside the Baxter Building' today I downloaded a large copy of it so I could see for myself the challenges I face. (copy attached)

I wouldn't like to build all 35 floors..:lol: I mean I could plough plenty of cash into making it but have nowhere to store a 35 floor building. Idk, I guess the trick is that I want to concentrate on 3 or 4 or even 5 floors of the living quarters that the fantastic 4 actually use?

I guess this is part of the challenge really, seeing as though i'm building this primarily for my fantastic 4 team / minimates the idea is that anything below would be totally aesthetic and be purely for looks. The batcave is 3 floors and its already pretty huge as it is, i'm thinking if i'm building the Baxter Building it would be 3 floors minimum, then maybe the extra 2 to push it to 5 floors max.

If i was to build the rest of the floors even just a couple they would probably just be windowed out un-used floors, (hope that makes sense) to similate height, then any additional shots would be taken with the camera suspended to give the impression of height.

The only possible solution around this would be to build reception on the baseboard, then 4 floors first, with the first 4 being hollowed out looks only floors, then have the 5 living quarters of the fantastic 4 in full detail. I guess the solution to storage would be to have the first 5 on the baseboard, then have the top of floor five tiled off so i can just place the second set of 5 ontop when i want to take pictures. This is used in most common storage solutions for Lego builds of this size, but even at 5 floors, i'd still have nowhere in my room to store a 5 floor building.

The batcave is 3 floors and doesn't even fit under my bed. Maybe i could find room in the wardrobe for it lol.

Yeah, I'd go Baxter Building too. Of the three, it's the most iconic. And, if you need a better reason why, it's also the first chronologically.

Your Batcave's very impressive, by the way.

Hey, thank you so much, yeah i think alot of people seem to like it, i'd happily help anyone create their own and encourage people to give lego a chance with their minimates, it merges well and fits with the theme of them brilliantly, Lego is also very versatile and offers you the chance to create scenes for the minimates, its a great combination.

As i've said to everyone, i've borrowed some ideas i've found off flickr and some i've done myself, and i'll happily share how i've done mine at the end of the build if anyone wants help making their own. It's all part of the fun!

    :)

  15. Well it seems that the Fantastic 4 Baxter Building will be my next project, it's a great challenge, i will probably leave the poll open or so at least until the end of January before making a decision, it seems with 13 or so votes it will be the clear winner.

Anyone else have any thoughts, ideas and suggestions around this project?

    Rich

  16. Inspired by the awesome Judge Dredd custom Brobot recently made for me, I decided to give Old Stony Face a shot for myself... Here he is...

I still need to do some touch up work on the helmet and figure out a good way to do the elbow pads.

This is awesome. What is the full recipe for this custom, if you don't mind sharing?

I also read you updated Conan with new wrist bands? is there an updated picture of him? :)

Excellent work on your Minimate customs, I really like them.

  17. I thought their 2005 logo redesign was smart, and spot-on for the company's products. I can't believe they are changing it again so soon. I like the versatility of the new logo (which is something I would like to see the minimates logo do) but I hate the design of the new logo. It looks like someone is peeling the label off a new toilet seat.

I am/was kind of indifferent on the Logo change, becase I can certainly see what you are referring to with the toilet seat thing.

I actually had no idea they changed it up in 2005, it is quite soon again to be changing it already
