  1. NOTE: This thread is for discussion for the 2013 SDCC. For pics & links please post in main 2013 SDCC Photo thread

    SDCC2013_zpsa1afed72.jpg

With tonight being preview night, it seemed appropriate to start a new thread about SDCC 2013 that wasn't speculation and gave us a place to share Minimate news as it becomes available.

And yes, I tweaked MINI_MYTE's picture that he tweaked from Zach's picture.

And yes, I started this thread really just to post that pic.

  2. I only saw one vendor with minimates. He wanted Corndog type prices. sad.png

Was it Roma Collectibles? If so, you had to find the right ones in his tub o' mates (and it seems I found them before anyone else). Most of his stuff was more than it should have been, but there were some gems that I'm sure just weren't marked correctly.

Overall, it was nice, but just too small. My company Christmas party was there last year and I was hoping it wasn't the same room, but it was. I'll admit it was more fun there yesterday than watching a bunch of half drunk co-workers try to dance.

  3. I know this was mentioned in the Kickstarter thread, but since it's fully funded now (in less than 2 1/2 days no less) I thought it'd be interesting to see if anyone else will be getting any of these. Frankly, I think this looks like one of the coolest figure lines coming out any time soon.

Extremely cool looking creations and I'm hoping for more than just the first six that are available through KS.

  4. In case you didn't know it, Hot Topic just listed their pre-order for the next two Ponies in that series (Lyra and Pinkie Pie). I don't know if you're getting those or not, but if you pre-order now you can use Hot Cash codes to get $15 off the two. If you need codes let me know.

Also, MLP Pops have metallic exclusives coming for three of the four characters in the first wave.

  5. Today was the first Indianapolis Toy and Comic Expo and other than finding some mates it was a big bust for me (I guess having just about everything you want makes it hard to find new stuff). I did however find a former member here how had several hundred Minimates for sale at 25% his marked price. I spent $66, but walked away with 3 Multiple Mans, a Sentinel, 90s Storm, variant Archangel, Mephisto, Hercules, movie Black Widow and Hawkeye. I paid $13.50 total for the three Multiple Mans, which I thought was a tremendous deal. Sadly, he said at the last show somebody cleaned him out of HYDRA soldiers (he thinks it was 6 of them and I'm guessing they were probably $6-$7 each).

  6. New Special Ops is up with Damion Hellstrom as the reward and Satanna as the lock box character. I'm a little surprised that they'd focus a Special Ops on the more demonic side of the MU, but I guess I shouldn't be. I'd much rather have a Marvel Zombie Special Ops.

  7. Does it disturb anyone else that Wasp is sitting just inches away from Magneto's zombie member?

Yes, it disturbs me. It's clearly a zombie version of X-Men #1 and she's not an X-Men. Very disturbing that the artist missed the obvious.

  8. I suspect this is because Marvel put a stop to Zombie merchandise of their heroes because they didn't want small kids seeing a flood of zombie stuff and seeing spiderman as a zombie and getting confused/upset.

With a set of villains it makes more sense that Marvel would let that happen?

    T.

That was my thinking also. When I first saw this thread, I remembered how it was talked about that Marvel didn't want their heroes portrayed zombified, but villains would be an easy way to get around that. This sure seems like a loophole to me. Or maybe there will be an all heroes zombie set exclusive to Disney Stores or something.

Not sure what villains are possible, but hopefully the set sells well!

ALL the villains smile.png Seriously, I don't care if they were in the comic or not, I'd still buy every Marvel Zombie Minimate.

Well, technically zombie Galactus wasn't in the comic, nor was a zombie Magneto (although I may be wrong on that). Plus, Red Skull couldn't really look like that and still be able to pull out Col. America's brains, right? I don't think the set is meant to be cannon, just a set full of zombie villains.

  9. So, Ultron would be the updated villain and Gaiman's Angela would be the "relatively new Marvel character". Who else? Spidey? Hulk?

Exactly. Without knowing much about AoU, I would guess maybe Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Invisible Woman, Black Panther, Hawkeye or Captain America. And I wouldn't put Spidey in there since he's already getting a new figure soon of that look. If Hulk is in there, he'd also have to be either damaged or fully armored to not look like the current Now figure.

  10. One of the big drawbacks I find is storing trades seems much harder. I finally sold off about 40-50 Marvel omnibus' a couple of weeks ago because they really are too big to casually read and they took up a huge chunk of my shelf space. Single issues do take up way less room and are easier to read.

  11. I'm hoping its more of a fan oriented poll, like The Brotherhood. I believe Zach said before that TRU isn't as picky about character selection, it would be a shame to waste that.

I agree that they aren't picky about character selection, but they probably aren't too happy with all of the Heralds sets they still have a year later. I would think Marvel Now versions of popular characters would outsell BEM any day of the week. And along those lines, I don't expect this wave to be peg warmers either.

  12. I for on am in Indiana. I will NEVER (unless I win the lottery) be able to go to SDCC. I ALWAYS have to resort to ebay or forum members for help on SDCC stuff. am I bitter because of how a company rolls out a product. No. it's just how it goes.

Are you bitter about how product rolls out? No. Should you be bitter because life stuck you in Indiana? Most definitely.

And by the way, when my little monkeys say stuff isn't fair, I usually just tell them to take what you get and don't throw your...

And...as a Minimate and Funko collector, I find my odds much better to get a Minimate SDCC giveaway exclusive than it is to get Funko's stuff. To get their 'giveaways', you have to attend a party at SDCC ($60 charge) where they giveaway exclusive pieces that you can't find anywhere else. Most are limited to 96 pieces, but there are 1 of 12 versions of those that are different. And there were about 15 or so exclusives last year. And that's not to mention an exclusive that is only available if you pre-buy the set of all 57 of their SDCC exclusives ($799 price tag on that). With something like that out there, I appreciate DST giving away anything to anyone that attends this year.Do I wish it wasn't that way? Of course. But I realize that they don't have to give anything out and things could be worse.
