Sorry to hear that Chicago has been a downer to some folks. While not having to do with minimates, I had a dream come true many times over when my girlfriend and I were invited to sit at Mike and Laura Allred's (Madman, Wednesday Comics' Metamorpho) table and hang out with them! i love allred's artwork... all those thick, clean lines and his understated cartoon-ish style makes for some killer images. i was a big fan of his run (with peter milligan) on "x-statix".

that mohawk version of storm would have been sweet, no doubt about it. instead we get another damn spidey... bleh. oh, well!

question: what's the deal with the TRU dark avengers exclusive box set, though? are they not going to offer a pre-order on that set as well? or has it already been offered?

hey, gang. with the recent news of yellow jacket, goliath, black bolt, captain britain, captain marvel, and shadowcat finally getting the 'mate treatment soon, i was just wondering what characters are still left on your own personal "holy grail" of minimates that you desperately want to see get made?

and to narrow it down and make it more interesting, let's say that you could only pick twelve more 'mates, period... and then the line is done. (perish the thought, of course--- but just for the sake of this thread.... )

Now for a tasteful splash page of the Human Torch fucking The Thing missionary-style! Splash page? More like SLASH page, am I right!

Note the Torch’s full, supple buttocks. If this isn’t a drawing of a naked guy on fire anally violating a semi-nude grotesquery in midair I don’t know comic books! The Thing’s blow-up-doll mouth is also kind of disturbing, as is the fact that he kinda looks like he’s pretty into it. Never would have figured Ben Grimm to be a bottom, but there you have it.

At least they’re face-to-face, so you know this ain’t just some cheap fuck; there’s some passion involved at least. Work those nipples, Johnny! Work them good!

31 looks pretty good and I really love that DST is right now going for more nerdish characters in regular waves. I especially like Silver Age Angel and the fact that we are getting a Cap Britain and Shadowcat 2pack (althought I'm with TBT and others who think that Cap looks somehow strange). And it's about time to get that Black Bolt (and an AFX 4-pack with royal family members?)!

32 has a brilliant Yellow Jacket! He looks spot on! I really like this design although I'm not a big fan of him as a character. Iron Man on the other hand seems to be the character DST keeps trying and trying and doesn't capture his look in the end (except the perfect Movie Iron Man we already have!). From the moment on they did extra sculpting on his armor parts he looks way to bulky in my eyes. This one is better than the Civil War Iron Man, but he's still not my cup of tea. I don't really know why. Maybe it's his head which looks too big in my eyes or the boots he's wearing making him way too tall again. I don't know. Cable - who really needed an update - is a killer! He looks great with all this weired stuff, but I don't like the way his face is designed. Maybe too much detail on his eyes, eyebrows and frown?

However, really looking forward to get these waves!

good call on that new iron man 'mate, bob. he DOES look kinda off somehow... and you are dead right about the face details on the new cable 'mate, too: his features look way too crowded and over-rendered.

now if they get around to doing doc sampson, old school nova, constrictor, lady viper, modern thor, bronze-age wasp, mole man, black knight, star fox, tigra, the lizard, and the vulture in the next few waves i will literally be on cloud nine.

After looking at this set some more, I am really unhappy with how Drax turned out. In the comics during this time he had a huge body and a normal head. The minimate has a normal body and a huge head. They should have made a big chest piece for him that included the cape. But of course that would have raised the cost of this set... Also the detail on his legs bothers me. I know he is supposed to have huge bulging muscles there, but its too much detail in a small, concentrated place, and it looks more like wrinkles than muscles from far away.

Ok, I feel better getting that off my chest.

I think Jack of Hearts was a onetime member of the Champions or something. And I agree that he would make a fun Minimate: off the top of my head DST can reuse some parts from Ronin and Hawkeye to make him.

In short, he was one of those minor characters with a cool costume, but who never really caught on despite chance after chance. Jack's got one of those multiple retconned origns that's hard to sum up, but I'll give it a go: Jack may or may not have been an alien human hybrid, but in any case, his father was a scientist, Jack got caught in one of his experiments, turned have his body black and gave him energy powers that Jack could not completely control. So a he got a computer brain implant, and a suit of containment armor, niether of which ever completely helped. Jack did a stint as Iron Man's sidekick, before deciding he was too dangerous to stay on earth and wandered the universe having adventures. He saved some worlds, buddied with the Surfer, spent some time as the Stranger's lab rat, and all the other things that semi-cosmic tyes without a book of their own do. Eventually he wandered his way back to Earth and assisted the Avengers on a case. As they were want to do in the good ol' days, they invited Jack to join after he proved moderately useful. Unfortunatly Jack's powers continued to grow unstable, and he eventually went boom in near space. Wanda zombiefied him and brought him back to the mansion to explode again.

So to keep this on topic, you could have Jack, Moondragon, Quasar, and Starfox as cosmic former Avengers

he DOES have a very cool costume, though. and, yeah: a starfox minimate would also be pretty sweet, too (i would love to have a full line-up of early to mid-80's avengers--- including starfox and the black knight).

I too come down in the middle. A great example is the Green Goblin. I love the character..particularly old school pre-death by glider. I find the cartoony look great, but then I also love the details on the new one. I do miss the elf shoes tho. I love the original Rhino..but I feel it could benefit from some bulking up. I also agree that Apocalypse to me is overdone.Too many parts can be a bad thing imo. I think we can all agree that Juggernaut needs a redo. When a new version comes out he or she doesn't replace the old for me...they just go in line next to all my other versions of that character.
