  1. I don't get the big deal. So it's Nightcrawler. Why is everyone freaking out?

Because he's a "core" X-man, and has only had one figure. Sure Storm's other released figure is the Ultimate version, but she's getting a new 616 one this fall. Colosus came out again, Cyc shows up semi-regularly, and then there's the endless supply of Wolverine. Nightcrawler got the boxed set, and a Target set and is hard to find in either release. Believe me, I've looked. Folks are willing to pay $40 just for a Nightcrawler on eBay. Nuts I know, but there it is.

  2. With all of this coming out for the convention, I am really looking forward to what may be announced at the convention for the rest of the year. I'd bet on at least one more boxed set for around the holidays, and maybe another TRU wave.

  3. Wait a second. I didn't think the blood bank paid you for donating?

    Usually, no.

Plasma, on the other hand, that stuff you can find eople to pay you for. It's been a while, but I remember getting a descent amount for selling plasma for pocket money back in college.

  4. I think what most people are failing to realize is that NO ONE HAS SAID if these minimates don't get released in THIS specific box set, we'll never see them again.

Ah, but they haven't said with certainty that they will appear elsewhere either.

Ironically, Storm and Spidey are the two most likely of the designs to turn up in a regular minimates wave, yet these are two of the most likely to make the cut. At the other end of the voting, Ben Grimm, who it would take one heck of a rally to get him in, also is likely to see release, probably as a variant of some FF themed pack. (We all know we're getting another Thing eventually)

I am not ignorant of the benifits of having one, or both, in the set. But there are some of these characters for who this may be their best shot at seeing production. Sure we've gotten odd 2 packs before, and probably have them again. And if Owen and Monica were popular enough characters, they'd probably be leading in the poll and we wouldn't need to be worried. But all things considered, it feels somewhat like a carrot hanging just out of reach.

And besides, Panicy overstatements are what keep the internet running, aren't they?

  5. Sorry to ask, but i think i've missed a post somewhere: Am i to understand that TRU are ALSO conducting a poll to determin the contents of this box-set?

    Yep.

Captain Monica... that's all I'm looking for outtah this.

  6. Goodness gracious! He almost sounds as nasty as that guy who killed all those villains in that bar.

    Punisher?

No, Scourge- the Gru created villain/villains who cleaned out Marvel's lower tier villains back in the day. It was an organization of assasins that ran around the country shooting costumed criminals. The whole thing was either a plot of the Red Skull (why I'm not sure), or the GA "Avenging Angel" hero, depending on which story you liked better. At the time, the Punisher was still sticking to run of the mill gansters... apparently that's gotten boring, so Frank's switched to bigger game lately. (personal note, can't stand the Punisher and don't consider him even remotely a heroic character, YMMV)

I too would have stuck #2 in the #1 spot, and Green Goblin sure as heck would have been #2.

This is the problem with subjective lists.

Definitely the subjective opinion of a few hashed over a lunch table. But I can't really argue that their top five should be the top five. And #1 is the most fleshed out and complex character of the bunch. Personal prefference would be for #3, but that's as subjective as their list.

  7. I didn't say they were on the DST website. It's the Diamond Comics website.

SDCC 2009 Dark Avengers Minimates Box Set #2

So there are 4 SDCC Marvel minimates sets this summer? That's... $80 up front... I'm trying not to complain, as I'm glad to be here for this MMM revival and all, but someone did tell them this is a down economy?

And I gotta say, the Chest pieceless Hawkeye does look good... Darn, I'm gonna have to sell some plasma or something.

  8. I can see him as Dr. Donald Blake, but I'm not sure about Thor.

Thing is, the movie is pretty much entirely in Asgard.

Don Blake's just showing up at the end when Odin casts out Thor. And it's only to set up for Avengers.

Ealry draft. Read in two places Branngh's chucked it. Implication is Branngh wants to tell the a variation of the Lee Kirby story, with Blake thinking he's going crazy dreaming he's a god... till he turns out to be one... But it's the freakin' internet. I also heard that the Nazi's still have a military base on the moon, the Saturnian's have a base off the coast near San Diego, another off Florida in the Gulf, and both groups are fighting with the Greys. (Reports vary as to where they are from). Take it with a salt grain and my compliments.

  9. Well... they look good. I actually like the Spider-Venom much, much better than I thought I would. And it does look like there are different hands for Dakeverine. (Does he get a third set of non clawed hands?) Shame the best version of my favorite Wolverine costume comes with Not-Wolverine.

That said, I only have the budget for 2 boxed sets this summer. And of the 3, I have the least interest in this one.

  10. plus it was the era i first started reading in - so i am a bit soft for it

That's probably the reason I feel the way that I do, as well ;)

Started in the mid 70's. (yes, I am old) Which explains why I think Simon should have stuck with the jacket, and Beast should still be an Avenger. (and an ape man, bu that's a whole other ball of wax) I watched the whole New X-Men stuff happen as it came out, was there when Wolfman & Perez rebuilt the Titans, enjoyed the hieght of the JLA sattilite years, saw Spidey meet the Punisher and the Rocket Racer... and the Big Wheel, and watched in confusion as the Avengers went from arguably their strongest run (150 to 200) to their lowest point (Um, I know Hank is nuts, but a violent, cranky wife beater, the Hell?) and back again (the Stern era).

My favorite X-men era was the post-brood years, Claremont hadn't become a cliche yet, Paul Smith and JRJR were on the art chores, Nimrod was running around somehow looking cool despite being a strawberry jolly rancher by design. Good times.

  11. I think it's all the black and white in this wave, but somehow actually seeing them all together looks sort of... I don't know... meh... compared with 30. Weird propotions aside, which I'm willing to accept as bad photography, the individual firgues look good. Together somehow they look... I don't know... somehow less... good. Wish I could explain it better than that.

  12. If they were new villians and not re-do's of existing characters, I'd be down for a couple of all-villain waves.

Unless it was a Doc Ock with much, much longer tentacles. That'd be okay.

Or a Goblin with a glider. (Green, Hob, Demo, I care not which)

And Jugernaut with a powerhouse chest piece.

    Or...

Not helping am I? Sorry

  13. With Iron Man 2 coming out next summer, I'm expecting lots of Shellhead related minimates next year, elhonez.

I mean, if with the Wolverine movie we get a 616 wave that included 4 characters featured in the film, we could hope that there will be a 616 wave next summer that will have feature Iron Man and Whiplash (at least that's who the rumors have Mickey Rourke playing).

I like to add Fixer and Mentalo to the list of requested villain 2 packs

  14. Think of pink/purple Apocalypse with a metal bowler. And hopefully without all the "A"s. That'd be what we would be lookin' at with a 2" Sentinel.

Not that I'd pass on on it. ;)

  15. Would I? Absolutely. Without question or hesitation. (unless it was a 2 pack of Howard the Duck villains, then I'd probably question, hesitate, but end up buying it anyway) I'd be up for a Bring On the Bad Guys wave for that matter!

Are there enough nuts like me to warrant it? That's the question.

  16. not trying to stir up trouble, because i really do like scorpion and electro...and I CAN see a spidey fanatic loving all the costume variations, but the padded spidey suit...(while a cool looking minimate) makes NO sense to me for the character.

It worked like this- Electro got a power boost, though it was implied it was more of getting past his own lack of confidence, and was using his powers at riddiculous levels. Spidey tried to stop him and got his head handed to him. So he took the inevidible between battle break, which Spidey's enemies have been giving him since Amazing #1... the Real Amazing Spider-Man #1, he created the insulated armored suit. He tried looking for help to, but as Parker luck would have it, the FF, Avengers, and X-Men were all out of town and only X-Man (yeah, the AoA Nate Grey character, which lets you long time guys know exactly when this happened) answered the call. Good guys win, bad guys lose, IIRC the suit was trashed anyway and never reconstructed. So like portable genetic inverters, magentic field disurpters, and web cannons, it's essentially another one-shot Web-Head big idea that he improbably whipped up between fights.
