Oooh... a Pantone set of white blanks sounds neat! You should probably do a sort-of mono version (black, white, and all the greys --- or is it "grays"? --- in between) too.
As for this thing...
I also found a nice holder that I can fit a deconstructed Minimate into. Who knows what it is originally used for, but it's fun to play with. That looks like something you use for making tea (for filtering the tea-leaves probably), but it certainly does look like an awesome Minimate torture device!
-
So judging by the official DST announcement, it looks like TRU was never intended to carry the variant pack after all.
Is anybody here still reeling from a lack of Tarantula?
-
Remember though, Fox was much more present in The Dark Knight which I believe subconciously influenced my coin. Rachel
dies halfway through
whereas Fox was there throughout and played an important role in the final fight against Joker.
Plus, who'd want a Maggie Gyllenhaal (the impossible to spell) over Morgan Freeman (the possible to spell). think of the custom possibilities! Shawshank Redemption! Bruce Almighty (oh come on, you know you want a God minimate.)! Wanted! Se7en! Whereas Maggie, well, the best movie you could make out of her is The Dark Knight or Donnie Darko.
Now do you think Fox should get that spot?
All right, now I'm convinced.
But I still think we need more girl minimates. I guess DC could always try a Birds of Prey box set...
-
I just know that admitting this will probably get me mocked or whatever, but I don't care. I just figured out the coolest thing....
When you click on a member's name (like in a thread posting) & you get the pop-out menu, you can instantly see the gender of a member. If it's a male, the "view member profile" icon is blue; for a female, it's pink.
Or is this something that's brand new? Like it just started recently? Either way, it's cool & should end the gender confusion, regardless of avatar or member name.
I just checked this, and she's right, but that leaves Ivan genderless.
Oddly... so are you.

There are 2 things that would make sense as DC if they were to bring it back now:
The Dark Knight
Watchmen.
Now a Watchmen box set, who wouldn't want that?
Rorschach
Dr. Manhattan
Ozymandius
Nite Owl
Silk Spectre
Comedian
Yes I know it's six figures but it's been done before and we absolutely need six to do it right.
As for The Dark Knight, lets assume six here too:
Batman (with parts to chage him into Bruce Wayne.)
Joker (with parts to turn into Nurse Joker)
Harvey Dent (with parts to turn into Two-Face)
Gordon
Alfred
Can't decide between Lucius Fox and Rachel. Time for a Two-Face moment (meaning I flip a coin.) Heads Lucuis, tails Dawes. Heads. Fox takes this position.
Kick ass?
Nah, it has to be Rachel. AA needs an excuse to give batman his love interest.
And no Watchmen minimates make me cry.

Thanks Limited Edition!
(... even though I probably have a snowball's chance in Hell of getting that "surprise.")

If it's one thing I can think of that DC had over Marvel is the size. Up to scale the bigger characters were 2.5" like Killer Croc, Bane, etc. Hulk, Apocolypse, Venom should have been that size too but we all know how that went.
oh no please do not bring this up again!!
1 marvel can NEVER make characters bigger than 2in
2 some people don't like the size differences
i just re-read the post.
I did not mean to be so mean. I am just a little up set about the DC mates. i opened the question/ batwomen two pack. I dont know if they were lack luster mates or i am just pissed at 52. but man i did not like those mates and am now taking it out on all dc mates and poor grimlock king (sorry).
No 52-love?? Not that i particularly liked 52, but that 2-pack was okay. I use Batwoman's face for a lot of quickies, and the designs themselves were okay. Of course, they could have given us a MALE Question, or at least have been more creative then putting a head on backwards...
Hey, I kinda liked the Batwoman/Question pack...
I actually lol'd at DST's "solution" to The Question's faceless mask. I find it hilarious that you can do this to pretty much almost any Minimate without a full-face mask, thus producing an army of creepy, tiny, faceless people...
Personally I also prefer the uniform 2" size for most Minimates, though you can't deny the scale issues when it comes to characters like Hulk and Giant Man.
-
Absolutely fantastic! Terrific job!
-
Woohoo! You rock, Ivan!
That silver TRU exclusive stamp on the IM and Hulk packs looks really cool. Since the Wave 24 packs don't have 'em though, I'm guessing that maybe TRU really IS gonna start carrying Minimates mass market (which is obviously good news for the rest of us). I hope they eventually come out with wave 23 too.
This new batch of minimates has GOT to be a sign of bigger things to come. I can't wait for the Secret Invasion and Spirit box sets to come out...
EDIT: Looks like you've changed up the MMDB homepage too... I see a newly-added link to the Minimate Factory. Nice!

Thanks for the great info guys. Guess I'll have to figure out another way to get more DC mates. Am in a really bad mood right now 'coz I've just got back from emailing this guy; he's had the same absurdly-priced listing since May and he STILL wouldn't see reason. A shame, since that C3 Robin looks almost cooler (not to mention slightly rarer) than the DCD one. I give up.
On a positive note, at least I've found a possible way to get an Avengers # 1 box set (oops, wrong forum).
-
You, sir, are a total design wiz. If every fictional character ever made would have a Minimate version, you should design every single one of 'em
Ever tried doing Tekken characters? A lot of 'em would look fantastic as mates, I just can't think of any great specific ones right now...
-
Rhino seems to be standing next to the Chameleon and the Invisible Woman variant. As for getting these things, I think I posted this before, but if Kubricks are really easy to come by in the Philippines, then you may find some folks here who will be more than eager to trade Minimates for them. . .
Yeah... thing is, Kubricks are actually pretty hard to come by here, too. (This is actually the land of all those notorious bootleg Bearbricks.) I don't really collect Kubricks, and barring a few Bearbricks at urban vinyl stores the only other "legit" Kubricks I think I've ever seen here were the Spiderman 3 movie wave (I accidentally got myself the Kubrick SM3 red Spidey to go with my Minimate one) and a single Halo 3 Master Chief box set at a nearby comic collectibles specialty shop here, and maybe a stray Star Wars Ewok kubrick in a battered-up box. Is anybody here looking for the Halo 3 set?
Oh, Invisible Woman! I didn't think of that. For a minute there I thought that was the X3 Colossus.
-
Hmm, seems odd that Minimates would be so hard to come by even in Hongkong.
... lol, my local comic-shop has a few packs every now and then, most of them are Marvels, though. Sometimes, they even get the old DC ones, which got me this! I think they also have the Supergirl minimate wave and the Sinestro minimate wave.Did your comic shop have Red Son Superman/Wonder Woman?
-
I'd treat DCD Robin as campy-Batman-TV-show-era Dick Grayson.
BTW, where in Hongkong did you find series 2 DC mates?
-
Man, that poster is hella confusing to look at. Why isn't Cloak next to Dagger? Who's that character on the right next to Rhino? And why is DST torturing us newbies with a tantalizing array of early-wave minis they'll probably never release again?!?!!
*sigh* Yet another bitter reminder of the Minimates I'll only ever get to own in my dreams. I wish they'd rerelease all the old characters again, or at least make new versions of 'em. (I SO want a Rogue to go with my future wave 26 Gambit.)
-
Perhaps not 'Dr.Fate'.... but I guess anybody starting to collect Marvel mates would be more crushed than encouraged by that mass display. Contrary to what I may be portraying about my feelings towards these TRU exclusives I am actually salivating at the 'chase' for these buggers.
aah... couldn't have said it better myself.
I think I spot another error in the poster though: Battle-Damaged Daredevil also appears twice.
-
Thanks for the box pics Ivan! Funny, I figured that the new IM pack would at least feature Gauntlet Tony and the Stealth armor on the pack too... must be DST's strategy to get newbies interested in more mates. I know that fully-loaded Minimate poster would be cruel and unusual punishment for 'em: "Wow! There's a Minimate Dr. Fate?!"
http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/28/wa...g-at-toys-r-us/must have been after the Stealth Iron Man.....
but all joking aside...... not good news
Holy gosh... that's just awful. Kinda makes you think about how far society's gone, doesn't it?...
-
If someone can, I would really appreciate a Iron Man set. It looks amazing.
Ditto!
... barring the fact that I'm halfway around th world from any one of you lucky American buggers. If anyone here could pick up the StealthIM pack and the Back In Black Spidey for me... I will happily learn PayPal overnight for this momentous occasion

Better do what he says, guys... a grovelling BHM just ain't right!
-
Eddie's face is reversible! Stealth IM has two sets of hands AND a "flyer" base! This truly is a new generation of Minimates!!!
Heh, Cosmic Spidey looks kinda cute sitting down in that photo  I'm still more interested in seeing what Wave 23 looks like, but looking at these photos I *might* just pick up my own Black Spidey/Kraven set. (I'd also like Gauntlet Tony/Stealth IM but since they're TRU exclusives I'll probably only ever get them in my dreams.)
For some reason I'm itching to see what the back of those window boxes look like, but I guess I can always wait 'til they get posted on MMDB.
-
But seriously, I think Clarice from the SOTL set is a dead ringer for Scully.
IIRC another thread explained that SOTL Clarice actually DID inspire the characterization of Scully for X-Files.
..."Mimimates"?Next time spell it right people!!!
-
HOLY CRAP!!!!! I've never heard of Gauntlet Tony or Stealth Iron Man either! Effing beautiful.
I wonder if wave 24 came before 23, or if they both came out at the same time but 23 sold out quicker. I dunno about you guys but I'm actually in the minority here who's more excited about 23 (NOVA! WAR MACHINE! CLOAK & DAGGER! ) than 24.
