Gotta' love the bitterness in this thread, right?

Personally, I think these look fun. They're bold, different and have a sense of humour. (In my opinion they're certainly more eye-catching than even the most adventurous Minimate design.) Of course, they are overpriced, but show me a designer-vinyl toy that isn't.

But this is interesting as the owner of the Doctor Who license (in the UK, perhaps) did see my project.

I really dislike the 3D look of the game. Couldn't they have gone for really detailed sprites like that Street Fighter 2 remake of theirs for XBLA?

There's the impression that AFX is a giant conglomerate that trades on the NYSE, with board executives cackling over their successful fleecing of the masses. I don't suppose the staff at AFX totals over a dozen, the California warehouse probably has five or six employees.

Ultimately, AFX told you what you were going to pay, there are no devious offshore billing scams going on here. At some point in the checkout process, every one is given the choice to buy the products for the listed total cost.

2. Now, I've not ordered from AFX myself, but surely they are deceiving the customer here? You say that the customer always has the choice to not buy the products they want, but the products they buy are more expensive than the product they receive, and yet they're being charged the same price.

The point is, what the customer is buying is different from what they are receiving, and saying that they will get the former when they're actually sending the latter is deception, I believe, and something that they could be held accountable for.

Cool pictures, and great customs. Could we have some shots of the Smallville Justice League from the back (especially for Cyborg and Impulse), or just some plain ol' photos without backgrounds and odd angles?

Otherwise, great stuff. What do you use to paint with (ie. both paints and brushes)?

Also, are the hoods/hair pieces detachable? If so, how do you sculpt them (and what with)?

I use paints from Games Workshop, I think they're called Citadel Paints. For brushes I use artists brushes, very fine down to 10/0 size. Green Arrow's and Aquaman's hair are detachable, the rest aren't. When I want to do sculpted detachable hair I either do it on top of an existing hairpiece or use a trickier method. Put cling film over the head of the Minimate you're working on, then sculpt all over the top of that(I use green stuff for sculpting). After it's dry the cling film should peel off leaving you with a separate hairpiece.

See, I'm stuck with acrylics and non-firing clay, so it's not wonder your paints dry thinner (and smoother) than mine. Generally I try and create a "mask" out of paper for the heads when sculpting hair pieces, but I'll try cling film next time. Alas, and alack, I guess my customs shall never be that great until I get proper customising stuff... I just don't want to fire things.

It's a shame they cut the "clear arm piece with painted bones" from Wolverine during production. But nonetheless, these look great!

Heh. I sympathise. I myself don't like making customs unless all the components are separable (ie. so I can remove the hair from the head).

Well, as much as I would have liked to spend my GCSE making more Minimates, I had to spend most of it making actual packaging. Anyway, it's done! And here are the pictures! Sorry for the rubbish photos (I took them at a local CCG and and board game store as part of the coursework).

The front of the packaging. Overall, I was able to make four little boxes, and one retail box. The retail box measures 10.8" x 10.8" x 4", whilst the smaller boxes measure 2.5" x 2.5" x 4". If produced in real life, one retail box would hold 16 boxes: five packs of each regular release in a wave, and one pack of the variant.

I drew the stylised image of the Doctor, Martha and Cyberman Minimates on tracing paper, and then uploaded it to edit it in Photoshop.

As far as saying All-Star Superman, Nextwave, or Marvel Zombies are the best comics ever, everyone has their own opinion, and we should all try to reserve casting final judgment until we have read all the books in question. DC isn't on my pull list and I've never picked up an issue of Nextwave, so I can't honestly say that MZ beats them both hands down. I can say that Marvel Zombies ranks pretty high on the list of comics I have read, but that's as far as my own judgment will allow.

I was not trying to, in anyway, empirically state that my choice of comic books were in fact, undeniably, better than any others. But at the end of the day, having to write "I believe [that]", or any variation thereof, at the beginning of every sentence is ridiculous.

So... we all agree this was one big coincidence and people are just overreacting, then? Good.

Anyways, I don't mind "This thread is useless without pics" because, when you are discussing something visual, for those of us who may not have such a visual object, attempting to describe it to us completely fails compared to actually showing it to us.

Also, ASSuperman as best comic ever? I believe Nextwave/Marvel Zombies need to have a talk with a certain someone.

I use a variety of air-drying sculpting materials, although I don't know their names off-hand (although they should be mentioned in my own thread).

I also cover my pieces before I sculpt onto them, but instead of foil I just use ordinary paper. If the procedure is done correctly it just comes off the head, leaving the sculpted hair.

I picked up a Colossus recently (they had run out of Galactuses) and I must say he's rather good. The paint-aps are nice, but at £9.99 a piece they're really rather expensive. Plus, the packaging was hellish to go through.
