  1. There may not have been a thread about it, but some of us would indeed like seeing Harry Potter minimates :) I know Trekker 42 has been something of a staunch champion of them for a while now, and I certainly wouldn't mind them. Can you imagine how fun and awesome a Luna Lovegood 'mate would be? The House ghosts of course would be easy to make out of transparent parts, and some sweeping cloaks would indeed be doable on the Minimate scale. And then there's the prospect of all those Hogwarts students in their house-specific uniforms with their little scarves and wands and pets and stuff... Okay, I'm geeking out now :geek::sorcerer: (I've always wanted to use this smiley! :P)

DUDE! WHAT PART OF "I JUST STARTED ORDER OF THE PHOENIX YESTERDAY" DIDN'T YOU GET?!

    :-)

I don't know from Luna Lovegood OR any House of Ghosts!

  2. I haven't been able to find a dedicated thread for this license, but I started reading the Harry Potter books (for the first time) this summer. I just started Order of the Phoenix yesterday, but by the end of Sorcerer's Stone I couldn't help but think how perfect these books are for the ol' Minimate treatment! Even though there are tons of kids and tons of adults, it wouldn't have to be "LOTR scale" if the kids were older versions, and keeping the 3" size for Hagrid and his ilk.

  3. I've just had a wicked thought. All that gnashing of teeth an moaning about who should be In the Thunderbolts Boxset and the Dark Avengers Boxset, AA/DST work so many waves in advance they must have been laughing their little cotton socks off around the offices knowing full well that they where going to release a Moonstone and a Darker Bullseye all along and we are wailing they have no idea what the fans want.

Ha, it's pretty amazing, that point. True, it's a pain that it's a Toys 'R Us exclusive that's going to be a pain to try and get ahold of, but that still doesn't mean that DST and AA aren't trying to get us the Minimates we want one way or another. And let me tell you, those are SWEET stinkin' looking mates!

...and for those that weren't thrilled with the Thunderbolts set at all (I'm looking at me) the Armored Spidey/Max Venom is a nice alternative.

But really, would it kill DST/AA to make a Hydra/A.I.M. 2 pack for army builders? Isn't that the most obvious route?

  4. Hmm, I think my CURRENT favorite is the Martian Manhunter I just got on eBay ($29 shipped). I brought it to my toy room exclaiming in my best CBG voice: "Now J'onn J'onnz, it is time to join your crime fighting bretheren - my Justice League is complete"!

My wife is a very patient woman, but I think that little outburst had her considering divorce court.

Of course, she's got a Thor and a Valkyrie on her vanity - Scandinavian bombshell that she is.

  5. This is weird. I asked Discount Comic Book Service about the removal from my list (you remember the topic )

and this is what they wrote back: "We received notification from Diamond that the FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE BOX SET was canceled so we applied the credit accordingly."

    EDIT:

    HOO-KAY - I got the explanation:

"The October solicitation was canceled and then the item was offered again under a November 2007 code."

  6. ahhh so this Exculsive to afx is now going to be available world wide though previews well thank you afx, thank you very much for charging us all way to much shipping, when in a couple months we could have walked into our lcs and bought these, hell buy 2, it still would have been cheaper then buying 1 from you with your p+p cost :P

    I should have f'n known.

  7. I'd settle for reasonable prices and reasonable shipping. Most other e-tailers get it right.

I've been ignoring this thread for a while, but my combined BSG/Defenders box just arrived. USPS Priority. I just checked the rates, and it's $7.50 to ship from CA to CT. A $2.50 mark-up isn't the end of the world, but the $5.00 for each order I paid is in addition to the $12 and change from the initial shipment of minimates a month or so ago (I think it was the BSG series 2)

Honestly, if I thought for ONE MINUTE that the Defenders set was going to be available someplace else, I would have ordered SOMEPLACE ELSE.

  8. What about the chick in the blue dress that came with the 24 Series 1 set? Are her legs the right color?

    Um, anybody?

I just checked, and I like where you're going with this...

Nina Myers' shoes MIGHT be able to be scraped off - and it looks like the plastic IS flesh colored, just a question of whether it is close enough to Namor's. And I've got PLENTY of extra feet I can slap on her instead.

This would be a good fix for me too, as White Six is pretty hard to come by.

  9. I really wish Namor came with a trident, now I have to buy a second aquaman :P

That's precisely what I did, along with an extra Robin/Penguin pack. Namor's upper body(sans vest)+Robin's crotch/legs+?feet+Ocean Master's belt and guantlets+Aquaman's trident=my new favorite minimate! Nice to see that Namor's ankle-wings are seperate pieces, that will save me a bit of repainting. Now, if only all of the flesh tones match-up:p I'm still waiting for mine to arrive (BBTS...'cuz I refuse to pay AFX's exhorbitant shipping rates!), but soon I'll have my classic Submariner (until DST produces one). My other set's Namor (in the black-suit) will represent the "Super Villan Team-Up" Namor in league with Dr. Doom. Now if I only had a great Doom!

Anyone else (that has theirs)done this "quick custom" yet?

I've been chomping at the bit to do this custom! I hadn't thought about Ocean Master's belt - I was planning on using Hawkman's belt, as it is thinner. (and I can use the extra wings for an Angel custom when the new Marvels are out)

I suppose the bare-chested Sulu variant could be used for a Namor custom as well (even a Spock head with some alterations to the hair)

Actually, Quicksilver's head(without the white hair of course) looks pretty good as a younger Namor too. I made a hairpiece out of Green Goblin's sanded-down hat about 3 years ago that looks pretty cool on QS. While I'm still waiting on mine, I think Sulu's skin is a bit too dark for the fair-skinned Submariner. Ocean Master's belt, while a bit big, is perfect in color and it already has the shell. I can't wait to get my sets to start experimenting!

    CW -

Thanks for the Ocean Master belt suggestion! It's perfect!

Any suggestions for Namor's bare feet?

    Gollum? Smeagol?

    Bueller?

  11. I too can vouch for DCBS. They are actually my LCS. I know several of the the guys there and the owner is one of the most chill people there. The guy I usually deal with is Jim he does a lot of their IT stuff but he is a huge comic fan so he is a font of knowledge for everything from independents to the big 2.

Well, then give them a big shout out for me next time you're there -

Their customer service reputation on the web wasn't good a few years ago, but I think they've really made an effort and it shows!

  12. Thanks -using that information, I was able to convince Discount Comic Book Service to offer the Star Trek and BSG as sets of 3 2-packs. They've only offered the case lots in the past, but do sell Marvel and DC minimates as sets. The only caveat is that the variant set would ship randomly, something they already do with the Marvels.

The reason I'm so excited about this is that I regularly spend over $100 (sometimes over $200) every month on comics, toys and busts through DCBS, so saving a few bucks on shipping by adding these to my monthly order is a big deal (to me)

These guys have really gotten better over the last year -if you don't already use them, try them out!
