Kind of an interesting lineup. I'm not entirely convinced that's Tony in the suit, though. With the FalCap and Thor-Lady identities apparently sticking, and Miles, Kamala, and Sam thrown in, the theme seems to be "modern takes on classic heroes." Maybe Tony stays Superior and that's Pepper? (Also, maybe a little soon to give Tony a pass on being a total dick for the last six months).

Also, lots of kids to babysit; is this team going to be able to take on big threats?

  2. I personally thought it was cool that they managed to time the Avengers wave to come out the same week as the movie, or thereabouts. I was excited for the movie, I was excited for the 'mates, and I got them both at the same time.

We know DST isn't going to compete with Hasbro on volume, so the alternative is having the 'mates drown in the sea of other AOU merch and be long forgotten about by mid-May when the movie comes out.

  3. "I was in the States for business a few months later, so i decided to track down my benefactor. It took some doing, but I found the address at the end of a long road though the prairie, an decrepit old clapboard house next to an ancient oak tree, rusty screen door banging in the breeze. I asked a farmer leaning against a fencepost where the owners were. 'Sonny, the folks what lived there died... oh about 50 years ago...nobody's live there since..."

  4. To be fair, I think the decision to continue a line or not comes primarily from sales. Marvel is an evergreen property, but one that very well could have died if not for the support of TRU and the increased popularity of the movies. Walking Dead is still going fairly strong because of the ongoing show, the general popularity of zombies, and again, TRU support. Almost all of the other Minimate licenses lend themselves to being one or two waves and done. TMNT could go long, depending on the legs of he show, and the greater focus on casual buyers and new distribution channels.

Godzilla, while it would be great to see that line carry on for boxset after boxset and give us every character in the library, just doesn't have the mass appeal. It's not really fair to say DST hasn't done their due diligence in trying to push Minimates; if they're not selling, they're not selling. Why fault them for trying in the first place?
