  1. Yeah, they need to stop shaking up the universe and settle down to storytelling, now. It'll be, what, three years of universe makeover by the time they're done? And confusing makeover stuff at that. Interest is bound to wane. Come on, DC, show us the new universe, let us play in it, don't just tell us an overview!

I don't think we will have another "shake-up" on the scale of Infinite Crisis. The writers have this great fantastic playground to use, and with Paul Dini as head writer I don't think we will be disappointed.

It's funny how one can look back on these events. I just started re-reading the works leading up to Infinite Crisis, starting with Day of Vengence. I recall not being incredibly impressed, but now after all that has happened, I have developed a renewed appreciation for the story. For me, it was exciting because this is the first major comics event I had witnessed first hand, whereas I only read Crisis on Infinite Earths years after it was first published.

  2. -A few figures ago, I posted the X-Men 3 Nightcrawler. Today, I've got the X2 Nightcrawler. I think I like the way this one turned out more. The bellbottoms were alot of fun to paint, and really help the figure to stand out better. Also, I shortened the fingers on the hands to make them a little stubbier. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Modified, recast Assault Punisher Trench and hands. Recast feet.)

    [

That Nightcrawler is a work of genius. I wish AA/DST would do another wave of X-Men move 'Mates just so we could have him--he was my favorite part of the second movie.

  3. Hey

I love the new site! Definitely you are on the right track. The customs are good. I look forward to your reviews too--it is always nice to have more opinions.

I know you are just getting started but on putting more content, as someone else stated: there is nothing worse than a website that looks promising, then has little in the way of content or infrequently updated content. It discourages people from coming back.

Good work and thanks for sharing.

  4. I have seen the image gallery. I have thought about doing cutting and pasting of different facial features. My approach was to ask permission from the individual creators before using their work--(I would hate to have someone browse the Customs section and say, "Hey! Boonimusprime stole my eyes!") Of course, this is funny, considering I was ready to do a (totally non-profit) stockpile of facial features based on what Art Asylum has done, and that didn't seem to bother me. I just want to give credit where credit is due.

  5. Love all of these. JLA would be a certainty as far as boxed sets are concerned. Assming 4 mates per box:

    Leering Dr Sivana

Egg Fu (just don't call him that to his face!)

  6. Not sure if anyone got back to you, but this is something I was hoping for as well. I am going to toy around with replicating the facial features from existing minimates and mixing and matching them to create new faces (real life has been sucking up all my time, so I haven't been able to even start!). If that works, I will work to share those images with others as well.

  7. All the ones that were mentioned are ones with which I am familiar. I use the Mega Bloks Spider-man sets (I have seen the Spider-man 3 sets too--planning on nabbing those when they hit clearance). I am also glad to see the old Batman: Animated Series Batcave works welll--I have a broken up one on hand, and I was planning on using the metallic part with my Chemical Warehouse sets, the cave wall part with parts of the C3 Batcave (since the C3 cave doesn't work as a unit anyhow!), and the mansion part either with the mansion pieces from the C3 set, for repaint it into an Avengers mansion or a JSA brownstone HQ. Of course, now that the Hall of Justice look is en vogue for the current JLA, I may try to get a broken up Hall of Justice from the Super Powers run, repaint that as a Justice League backdrop.

Has anyone tried using the Justice League Watchtower set for minimates? I have one in box that I have not gotten around to setting up. I was planning on using it for my 'mates because it doesn't really work with the Justice League Unlimited line because the figures are so clumsy. I am also thinking of altering my Justice League Javelin 7 to work with mates.

There are some Mega Bloks "Pirates of the Carribean" sets that look promising for use with Aquaman and Ocean Master (and Black Manta, if they get around to him!).

  8. Eeep! I have cases ordered for every single wave from Cornerstore Comics from todays DC figs all the way through 18. I hope I don't get stiffed--it was a lot of money.

I order a case now because not only do I want the variant, I want the regular set as well. I also like having extras just to collect in package, custom fodder (not that I ever get around to customizing, grumble grumble).

  9. I'm going to be cynical, but here is a likely box set:

Classic JLA (how about a ten pack?)

    Batman

    superman

    Wonder Woman

    Martian Manhunter

    Flash

    Green Lantern

    Aquaman

    SA Green Arrow

    Atom

    Hawkman

I know many of these have been (or will be) released elsewhere, but they can do do special versions of Batman and Superman (a silver age Batman, or give him accessories we haven't had before), Wonder Woman in her SA form, a barry Allen Flash, a chance to buy Martian Manhunter without selling a kidney, etc.

    Other boxed sets:

    Superman: Battle on Apokalypse!

    Superman

    2.5 inch Darkseid

    Kalibak

    Desaad

    Orion

    Parademon

    Batman: Arkham Asylum

    Batman

    Joker (straitjacket version?)

    Scarecrow

    Ventriloquist

    Clayface

    Mad Hatter

    Flash: Rogues Gallery

    Flash

    Reverse Flash

    Captain Cold

    Mirror Master

    Captain Boomerang

    Trickster

Wonder Woman box set (this is probably a longshot)

    Wonder Woman

    Hippolyta

    Ares (in another form)

    Dr Psycho

    Cheetah

    Giganta

I like the ideas people posted for Doom Patrol:

    Robotman

    Elastic Girl

    Negative Man

    Chief

    Monsieur Mallah (with Brain accessory!)

Madame Rouge (put Mr Fantastic's arms to good use!)

Another long shot, but a dream come true:

    JLA Villians

    Dr Light

    The Key

    Dr Destiny

    Amazo

    Despero

    Kanjar Ro

  10. How about these:

Doctor Double X--no, get your minds out of the gutter! He was a villian who plagued Batman and Robin through the Silver Age. He created of himself an energy duplicate that could fly and shoot energy blasts. At one point, he even made an energy duplicate of Batman. They could release a two pack of Dr X (regular figure) and Double X (clear version of figure with energy blasts).

Also, Rainbow Raider, a Flash villian who used light to induce strong emotions in others.

Here is a pic of both villians in action (a fun comic, too!):

    http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=37014&zoom=4

    Others I can think of:

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (golden age Batman villians)

Getaway Genius (saw him in the centerfold of Batman's Villains digest comic, never gound who ihe is, but he appears in the recent Showcase: Batman edition).

Tawky Tawny (so Captain Marvel has someone to pal around with--I plan on using the upcoming Tony the Tiger Minimate to make a custom of tawky!)

Mr Banjo (a golden age Captain marvel villian, although he's probably not much of a challenge to the Big Red Cheese).

  11. Hi

Thank you for your time. Couple questions:

    1. Is there a chance we could see the Giant Size X-Men two packs at retail again? The characters seem to be very popular, and they vanished in almost no time at all. Another release of Nightcrawler would be nice.

    2. Have you looked into the possibilty of taking on the Doctor Who license? That show has a passionate following, the series has had new life breathed into it much like Battlestar Galactica has, and I bet Who 'mates could sell very well.

  12. Classic Series: (first wave)

If this series were to be made, would AA make a T.A.R.D.I.S.? I mean, they didn't make a bike for Ghost Rider, and that is pretty much his trademark...

I don't see a problem with AA making a TARDIS. The only reason they can't make vehicles for so many of their lines is because their license forbids them to do so. (Does anyone know whether even DC forbids AA from making vehicles for their characters? I know that is the case for Marvel). A TARDIS would be a must. They could also do Bessie (the yellow roadster) for the third Doctor. Daleks are a must--I didnt include them in two packs because I think they should be their own wave, just like the Cylons! For those who aren't familiar with Doctor Who, the Daleks are HUGE with fans, and sell like hotcakes in general (esp in the UK).

I think Doctor Who falls well below the radar for so many fans, but it is a perennial favorite (it is the longest running sci-fi series in the world--it went almost non-stop from 1963 to 1989, and now has a hit new series that is going strong in the UK and on Sci-Fi in the US). Of all the licenses that AA courts now (24, I Robot, Rocky), I think Doctor Who could blow them out of the water.

  13. DC and Marvel, because those are what draws me to Minimates in the first place. I was going to collect BSG because the designs are so sweet looking, but I never really followed the show in the first place so I will pass. I will probably scoop up the Trek stuff.

I am interested in doing comic customs, so I may sample the different lines for parts. :)

  14. I think I responded to this sort of category before, so I have to add mine: Doctor Who. While it has a small following in the US, the fans tend to be very passionate and I'm sure they would scoop up the 'mates as soon as they appeared. My pics:

    New Series: (first wave)

The Doctor (Chris Eccleston) with Slitheen

Rose Tyler with flying creature from "Fathers Day"

The Doctor (David Tennant) with Cyberman

Capt Jack Harkness with Gas Mask Zombie from Empty Child/The Doctor Dances

    Classic Series: (first wave)

4th Doctor (Tom Baker) with Lalla Ward Romana (K-9 as accessory?)

3rd Doctor (Jon Pertwee) with Master

2nd Doctor with Tomb Style Cyberman

5th Doctor with Gallifreyan time lord

  15. Fantastic news! And if I have one complaint, it is this: no villians! I love mary Marvel as much as the next guy, but I think Black Adam would have been a better choice for Cap's box partner, especially given his high profile as of late. Still, that's what customization is for, and Cap's parts will make that all the easier.

Ma Hunkel was completely out of left field. She is a fun character for those who like light humor. She appeared in the JSA's first meeting in All Star Comics #3, but had to run out when the back of her pants ripped out! These days, the older Ma Hunkel has settled down to more "traditional" tasks of serving as the JSA housekeeper and "den mother" for the lack of better word. Her granddaughter has developed cyclonic powers and has joined the JSA as of Justice Society of America #1 (a great book, check it out if you haven't already done so!)

On interesting bit is that the characters in these two packs "mirror" each other in the sense that they each pack shows variations on a single superhero icon: Captain Marvel, Green Lantern, Red Tornado, and Hawkman, while past packs reflected themes or books: (Batman, Superman, Mystical heroes, JSA stalwarts, and so on). As a result, the figures in each pack look a bit . . . samey. I know, gripe, gripe, and don't get me wrong, I am excited, but it is an interesting group.

  16. I just got these today. Really nice pics, and I think having them hanging on hooks rather than the tiny boxes is a great idea. I think the boxes were too easily overlooked.

Want to hear a crazy story about the TRU Avengers 4 pack? I picked one up and instead of getting Spider Woman I got a Dark Phoenix instead, WITHOUT the fire accessory! At first I thought it was some variant, but it looked like someone broke the tape seal, removed Spider Woman, and replaced her with a spare Phoenix. I was royally cheesed.
