  1. 90's Cannonball is the only version of the character I want.

Don't know who I'd pick out of Domino, Siryn, Sunspot, Shatterstar, Boomer, Feral or Rictor to round out the other 3 spots in a boxed set, though.

    Domino

    Shatterstar

    90's Cannonball

    Siryn

Siryn = Eventual Banshee parts recycle :)

Feral = Eventual Wolfsbane parts recycle for New Mutants box, or vice versa. (also using parts from 90's Beast (hair, hands, feet)

Sunspot = Eventual New Mutants box.

Boom Boom (Boomer)/Rictor = Maybe released as part of New Mutants, but I really doubt we'd ever see them. Unless they eventually make Jubilee and part recycle for Boomer. Maybe a Boomer/Rictor TRU exclusive, but even that seems stretching it a little.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the recent First Appearance X-Men box set would be a great starting point for a First Appearance New Mutants boxset. Some additional detailing would all it would take to make the basic uniforms for the original NM crew.

  2. I agree with what some of you are saying, I have no problem with the different MiniMate lines using different styles to remain distinct, but the Marvel Mates need to be more tampo detail based, with less dependancy on additional parts for detailing, simply because that's how we fell in love with them in the first place.

I can't blame DST for wanting to cut costs by reusing parts and molds where they can, as long as they keep the Marvel line ahead of the curve and not rely on parts molded for other lines for the primary line.

For the Halo mates, particularly because the armored-up look is appropriate for them, I think the additional parts fit.

Having said that, I would like DST to invest some time retooling the 'armored boot' pieces for the Halo mates, and all other mates in general. The bulkyness of the boots can be slimmed down a little to allow for them to "keep their legs together" (go ahead and run with that one BHM! :) ), instead of the waddling look they sometimes get because of the 2 boot pieces side-by-side.

  3. I'm on board with Lizard and hoping for the hover chair! I'm starting to wonder how much longer this can go...

I'm pretty sure as long as DST can keep the license, the line will continue.

There's so many characters and variations of characters out there that we will get eventually, as long as the collectors can accept knowing there will always need to be reissues for main characters in order to get more obscure ones.

I'll happily pick up the 75th variation of Wolvie/Spidey it it means I may some day see a Alpha Flight set, Shang-Chi, or Man-Thing.

  4. I have to agree that this wave feels odd, but maybe just because we've gotten so many theme waves lately.

I would really like to see Spidey/Lizard come with extra parts to make Pete and Dr. Connors.

I'm almost 100% sure that Prof. X will come with the hover chair, the question is how it will compare to the Kubrick version.

WarPath will be the current X-Force version, so they can re-use the Wolverine/X-23 parts that they can.

Thing, despite having so many variations already out there, is due for an update.

Trenchcoat Thing is a MUST OWN, too bad it's the variant... :\

The Doombots worry me, I have a feeling we are going to be seeing many reused parts from the TRU Secret Wars box set Dr. Doom.

The MSRP concerns me. Not for us die-hard collectors, but for the one-off purchaser that may like the way ther look. For 2" figures, one dollar is a big difference.

HOWEVER, if they are going to include more accessories for each figure, I fully support the price increase. If I can get extra parts to make Spidey/Peter Parker and Lizard/Dr Connors in one box, that's like getting 4 characters for slightly more than the price of 2.

It's something they've been doing with box sets for a while now (Avengers Wasp/Ant-Man, Iron Man Through The Ages), and more recently with the Sentinel wave.

  6. Ha! Very cool!

I put the movie head/hair, silver stingers & grey holster on my "classic" Widow!

    Same awesome QC's there youbastard!

Thanks! Tenime, I'll have to try that out.

So I've been thinking of trying a custom poseable 8-10" Maximate. I know Luke has played with resins for his bases, but I'm thinking of trying plastic molds.

Has anyone here tried it already?

    Does anyone have advice/suggestions?

Should I just 'throw in the towel'?

Would DST have a problem with me trying something like that?

If I can get the molds down for each part, I think I might be able to make multiple parts from a mold. Is that even something anyone would be interested in here?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

  7. Will do! :)

And I wrote an article for the Factory comparing metallic paints here. That might point you in the right direction, although those are brush-on paints.

Thanks Luke, I'll have to read more articles on your site. I went ahead and picked up a can of Krylon Premium Metallics Chrome spray paint, and leaves a great shiny metallic surface.

I can see why you guys really get into this. :)

I agree with everyone, those customs look great!

  8. Here are a couple of Quick Customs I put together:

    Sharon Carter and Maria Hill

    carterhill2.jpg

    carterhill.jpg

    These were made from:

Body: Black Widow (TRU IM2 Excl)

    Hands/Feet: Angel (Series 31)

    Sharon's Head/Hair: Rachel Grey Head (Series 33) with Dagger's Hair (Series 23)

Maria's Head/Hair: Rachel Grey Head (Series 33) with Jigsaw's Hair (Punisher War Zone Box set)

[EDIT: I replaced Dagger's hair with Ms Marvel (Dark Avengers 2 Box Set) - a big improvement!]

    newcarter.jpg

    Conan

    conanuo.jpg

[i'm getting some waterslide decals from Luke to use his chest decal]

    Body/Arms/Legs/Hands/Bracers: Hercules (Champions Box set)

Head: Assault Gear T-800 (TRU T2 Excl) - I wanted to use an 'Ahnold' head, the smirk is just perfect

    Hair/Waist: Skaar (Series 25)

    Belt: Shocker (Series 24)

Feet/Shin gear: World War Hulk (TRU Series 6 Excl)

Weapons: Ares (Dark Avengers 2 Box Set)

  9. Great picture ! I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of your Angel army as well

    Thanks!

I'm going to try turning them into custom SHIELD agents with help from Luke's decals.

Wait a minute... If you have 13 Sentinels, then why do you have 23 Phoenix bases?!

Someone wanted a bunch of 'classic' Sentinels and sold all the Rachel/Phoenix Base/Flight Stands/extra Sentinel parts on eBay.

I wanted to start trying to customize, so I bought them to use the Rachels as guinea pigs and for the extra flight stands.

Hey youbastards, if I may ask, where did you get those clear plastic stands for your mates?

Those stands are clear Lego dish pieces I pick up on Bricklink. I've got one for all of my 'Mates! They stand up really well and don't take up a lot of surface area, so you can pretty much position them where ever you want. They work great with C3 feet, but you have to use poster tack for non-C3 feet. They are curved, not flat, which is my only real complaint. To my knowledge, Lego doesn't make a clear, circular, flat piece with a single peg on it.

  10. Luke,

Please add my name to list, I'm going to take a stab at a custom!

    Thanks!

[EDIT: Can anyone recommend a spray paint that gives a good metallic shine? I know there are multiple 'metallics' brands out there, but has anyone used one they particularly like?]
