  1. Revenge of the DC Minimates!

Oy, Alter-Ego comics, you're a retailer. What do you think, would it work? Are you in?

As much as the rumored demise of DC Minimates irks me, and despite the fact that I personally don't care for the Super Hero Squad-type figures, as a retailer, I can't get behind a boycott. DC Direct is a business and all businesses have to make unpopular or difficult decisions sometimes for the sake of the business. Overall, I think that DC Direct is producing a wide variety of products that appeal to a broad fanbase. Do I agree with all of their product choices? Absolutely not (like including Superman and/or Batman in nearly every 6 inch figure line). But that doesn't mean that I should stop giving my customers the choice to buy or not buy a certain item. Does that make sense?

You guys as the end consumers have the real power. The power of the purse, or wallet.

  2. We've got our three winners for the BSG Cylon Elf Minimate courtesy of Alter Ego Comics:

    Melissa S.

    Scott S.

    Luke P.

    Congratulations to you guys!

Thanks to everyone that entered the contest, and look watch for a new contest every month in 2008 in the Alter Ego Comics newsletter.

  3. That is why i am loving this two waves of Star trek. I think about it put Baltar's head on wave 4 Picard's body you have Riker! Take wave 4 Admiral Kirk put on Spock or Bones head and you are on your way to the full bridge crew!

I'm still pretty new to Minimates, so I hadn't even thought about swapping body parts to make other characters  . You guys are always full of cool ideas!

  4. I'm looking at buying a PS3 strictly as a Blu Ray player - I'm not much of a gamer, and we have a Wii already. My 8 year old has a PSP, but that's the only Playstation product that we have.

    Anyway, should I be looking at a 40gb or 80gb PS3?

  5. DST will be releasing Star Trek series 5 Minimates in December. Here's the lowdown:

Journey into the unknown with the legendary crews of Star Trek with this fifth assortment of interstellar Minimates from the revolutionary franchise! Featuring "The Trouble With Tribbles" Kirk and Yeoman Rand from Star Trek, Captain Decker and Lieutenant Ilia from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek Deep Space Nine's Captain Sisko, Gul Dukat and Variant Commander Sisko.

Is it me, or does Decker look a bit like McCoy?

  6. I believe we're looking at February or March 2009 for the new episodes.

I was expecting more of a cliffhanger, based on internet chatter, but I do have one question:

Are we to assume that the entire planet looks like the area they were in? Earth is a big place, and I can think of areas on Earth today that look a bit like the location that they were standing in.

  7. Spidey is a pretty popular character for kids, and sells a lot of toys and merchandise. So a Spider-Man Minimate wave could be an easy sell to a toy store like Toys 'R Us (aren't they supposed to start carrying Minimates again soon?).

Excellent point. We stocked up on Minimates Waves 19 and 20 before Free Comic Book Day this year, and the pack that we kept having to restock the most throughout the day was Spidey and Mysterio.

  8. I'm actually more excited about Wave 24 than I am about Wave 23. Cloak, Dagger and the Rhodes War Machine are the only ones I'm interested in from 23. Since I'm new to collecting Minimates, and don't have any Spidey Universe mates, I'll take all of 24 :) .

  9. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, and for the contest entries.

How about this for international members. If you would like to pay the shipping cost to ship the BSG Cylon Elf to you, feel free to enter the contest. Sound fair?

  10. Howdy from one of the newer members of the Multiverse. Not only am I a Minimate fan, but I'm also a retailer. So, what better way to introduce myself than to give away a few Battlestar Galactica Cylon Elf Minimates that DST sent to retailers for Christmas last year.

To enter, just send an email to contest_at_alteregocomics.com with "Cylon Elf" in the subject line. (U.S. residents only) By entering the contest, you are agreeing to receive the weekly Alter Ego Comics newsletter. We'll accept entries until June 30. Limit one entry per person. We'll pick three winners at random the first week of July and ship your prize out absolutely free.

    See ya 'round the Multiverse!

  11. So you're the one that snagged all of the Minimates at the Motor City Con, eh? :) I had just decided to really get into Minimates before going to the Con and was hoping to find some there. But, as you said, there was a severe shortage of Minimates in Motown.

  12. Hey gang. I've collected a lot of superhero/sci-fi items over the years, but recently, I've been looking to get into something new, something cool, and something that won't make me too poor and take up too much space. So, one of my main focuses will now be Minimates! I'm a huge Star Trek TOS fan, so I've been buying those, but I don't own any others. But, I'm going to take the plunge this week and pick up some recent Marvel and DC Minimates, as well as the classic Battlestar Galactica boxed sets.

I'm looking forward to being an active member of the Minimate Multiverse!
