  1. Here's Darth Maul, who was probably the coolest character in The Phantom Menace...Jar Jar sucked.

Vixen: I really enjoyed her in JLU. The love triangle between her, John Stewart, & Hawkgirl interested me.

I REALLY hope they make Psylocke soon, and with a psiblade accessory! She's right up there with Gambit on my wish list.

Sometimes it's best to keep it simple. Yellowjacket's costume is interesting enough that instead of adding a lot of detail, I just wanted kind of a more simple look like with the Wave 1 'mates.

With someone like Black Widow, though, who has a simple costume, I feel a lot of detail should be added to keep it from being boring.

I was dissapointed in my Falcon. I just didn't put enough effort into making those wings!

    Poison Ivy:

Poor Timber Wolf...I always felt he had the worst luck in the Legion. The others looked down on him and acted like he wasn't very smart, and then Light Lass left him. I felt he wasn't appreciated enough.

Here's another Legionairre, Shadow Lass in both her more well known outfits. The first designwas edgier, but I think most fans liked the second (which actually came first in the comics) better. She kinda reminds me of Storm. I may have a thing for exotic women with big hair, tiaras, capes, and bikinis. Maybe I better stay away from drag shows *shivers*.

Next is my all-time favorite Sci-Fi character....Deckard from Blade Runner. If this ever got made I could die and go to heaven!

  2. Thanks for the compliments.

I'm on a business trip so I have no way to upload them now, but I made a bunch of new ones on Sunday.

Thursday or Friday I'll upload my new ones.

They are: Darth Maul, Vixen, Psylocke, Yellowjacket, Falcon, Black Widow, Poison Ivy, Timber Wolf, Shadow Lass, and Deckard from Blade Runner.

  3. Here's another Legionnaire, Colossal Boy/Leviathan. I always thought he had an iconic costume for a minor character...he looks important.

My next design was a labor of love. When I was a kid in the late seventies I had a major crush on Princess Ardala from the TV show, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Pamela Hensley was a real good-looking woman...and she was playing a space princess in a bikini even before Princess Leia!

  4. Tyler Durden looks great! I think it is cool how you are doing movie minimates, like the Boogie Nights ones.

The 80's & 90's Storm, plus 90's Jean are well done too! Why is Jean so mad? Though for some reason it seems to work for the character.

Jean was usually so nice to her teamates, people forget that she could be ferocious in battle, and that was one of the things Wolverine was attracted to. She told Sabretooth once, "Creed, you're a firecracker, but I'm an atom bomb!" ;)

  5. One of my favorite movies is Trainspotting. This was my attempt to create a likeness of Ewan McGregor who played Renton in the film. This was the shirt he wore at the first nightclub. Has anyone noticed that bald characters and characters with really short hair look stranger as minimates? I guess it has to do with the lack of ears and I had to hold back on drawing them.

  6. I was extremely saddened to hear about Michael Turner's death at the age of 37 from cancer. I always thought he was a phenomenal artist and never heard anything but great things about him as a person. Such a sad week for comic book fans...I thought I'd make a design of Aspen Matthews from Fathom since it's been on my mind the past few days.

that is a cool design! turner was (and will ALWAYS be) my favorite artist. i am currently working on a kiani, mind if i steal that design to go with her?

Steal away... I like Kiani as well.

  8. I love Michael Chabon. I loved reading "The Amazing Adventires of Kavalier and Clay". It won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize and deservedly so. It's the fictional story of two young men in WWII era New York who get in on the ground floor of the comic book industry and create "The Escapist" who rivals Superman (in the book) in popularity. Even if you don't read comics, Chabon makes you really care about the characters. They became like friends to me and I actually hated to see the book end. Check it out!

  9. Isn't it natural to assume that not all of a toy line is going to sell well, though? I mean...they had to KNOW that Stargirl and Stripe would sell less than Batman and Flash. When they decided to give minimates another try, I'm sure that DCD already knew around how many Marvel minimates were being bought...and from the looks of it just as many of us were buying the DC minimates too. Nope, I'm just convinced that they saw how well Super Hero Squad was doing (they're cheaper, and no small chokeable parts!) and then decided to go that route. It's less about poor minimate sales and more about "If we only give them these superheroe squad knock-offs they'll still buy it."

  10. I have absolutely no problem with boycotting DCD. I collected all of the 5" action figures Marvel was making in the early nineties and when I found out that DCD was going to come out with action figures I was so happy. Then the figures arrived and they made damn sure that their figures were towering over the 5" figures like Lantern Returns said. Well, I didn't want my Batgirl towering over my Hulk so I passed. When Marvel Legends came out I just didn't have the time, energy, or SPACE, to start all over again. At first I thought the minimates were kinda silly...but on closer inspection their detail, articulation, and colorfulness grew on me. But the clencher was that minimates were one format that you could get in many liscenses (DC, Marvel, Star Trek, ect.). It reminded me of the good old Mego days when I was a little kid!

Oh well, it was nice when it lasted...but I have no urge to buy any more DCD stuff unless they make something compatible with my current collection of figures.

PS. SuperHero Squad sux @$$
