  1. In other news... you remember Hasbro's big Return of Marvel Legends? Well, they've shown one new wave... and then that'll be it. We'll be getting nothing but movie tie-in waves going forward. And Marvel Universe is ending as well, to be replaced by an Avengers- branded line. Ah well.

Really? I'd heard about the MU rebranding, but they're ending Legends already?

Hate to say it, but if that's true, I'm actually relieved that Legends is ending (again). I can't justify spending $20 per figure.

  2. cool, i'm excited to pick these up.

i'm not a huge trek fan, but i love minimates enough and have enough casual interest in trek to stick with the line for the long haul.

i hope we get the TOS crew remade, as i'd rather not go back and hunt down the ones from the original trek minimates. it's somewhat selfish, but i also argue that minimates have evolved enough (e.g., face tampos) that having them updated would still be worth it -- maybe as a couple 4-packs or something. i'd certainly much rather have this before the episode specific variants.

  3. Not sure if this has already been answered, but why are some minimate stands hard clear plastic and some rubbery? I really prefer the hard plastic found in recent non Marvel sets and Strange Tales boxset, but the Iron Man 3 ones were still rubbery. Anyone know what determines which sets have which stands?

  4. Thanks for the heads up! No way was I going to pay the retail price -- much too expensive. But I bought all three sets at 40% off.

Funnily, I had just walked by the Disney Store on my way to work. I was going to see if they had them in stock, but the store wasn't open yet.

  5. I hadn't even thought of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I would totally buy those. It pissed me off when Mattel never made any figures of the female characters, which was ridiculous considering how integral they are to the show.

The mention of Kaneda made me think of Sunshine. I really liked that movie. I would buy those mates, but I guess they might just look like a bunch of civilians.

I think you could make the same argument you're making for DBZ, Kostis, with Avatar: the Last Airbender or Naruto. Those are the current anime series that are big with kids here right now. I also wonder if there's any interest in the classic Anime that was translated and aired in syndication in the US in the '80s. I'm thinking, of course, about Star Blazers, Voltron, and G-Force.wub.png

  6. I love the film, the idea, and the fact that 'mates have finally got a pinky-toe in the Disney door, however I personally don't think that these translate well into 'mate form. Regardless, I'll still probably get these if for no other reason than to support the expansion of this golden opportunity for DST. I've no doubt that these will sell if reasonably priced. Now in the extremely unlikely event that "Tron" and/or "John Carter" 'mates miraculously occur from this relationship, then I will be thrilled! I still maintain that Syd Mead inspired Light Cycles would be the ultimate Minimate vehicle packs.

*Disney also now owns a little franchise called "Star Wars"...just say'in.

I second this. Not too enamored by these, but might get them just to support the line... just for the sliver of a chance that Disney might be able license Star Wars for both Lego and Minimates.

  7. As someone who didn't start collecting Minimates until after the original Star Trek releases, I was wondering if there will be plans to release new plain uniform versions of the TOS crew (either TV series or recent movies). Basically I want to know if it's worth going on ebay and trying to pick up the old mates or if I can wait for new versions. Thanks and I'm excited Star Trek mates are coming back!

I know this is beating a dead horse, but what would be even more awesome is if Disney is still into Minimates (i.e., Disney store exclusives) and is able to somehow license Star Wars to both LEGO and DST.

  8. I missed the Minimates panel due to waiting for the Adventure Time experience outside of the convention hall, which was a colossal waste of time unfortunately.

Can anyone who went give me an overview of the style of minimate panels? I've read the bits of info posted by toynewsi.com, but I'm wondering more if these panels are purely just DST announcing what's upcoming plus some Q&A.

Do they talk about the design process much?

And I'm curious what the demographics of the audience is. Is it mostly filled with dudes or are there actually female minimates fans. And what is the age range of attendees? Are kids into minimates or is it mostly adult collectors like me?

    Thanks.

  9. thanks for the links Lurch

if you order from the DisneyStore.com, use promo code L211101E6MKZH05 to get 20% off your order. it knocked $7.80 off the 2 sets ($15.60 each) which ends up covering the standard shipping cost of $7.50. if you live somewhere with no tax, the total ends up being $38.70 shipped

Thanks many bunches for this! I don't feel bad about paying for shipping now -- and also was able to pick up some Brave plushes, haha.

  10. I'm already committed to buying the two box sets. And if this is what it takes to get Disney to carry Minimates I'm all for it.

UNLESS, it becomes a trend, that in order to get one new character, I'd have to pick up two or three rehashes. This effectively means I'm paying $10 or even $20 for each new character, which would make me really question whether Disney exclusives are even worth it. I really hope this won't be the case. Though for the record, I have bought every Disney boxset so far, 'cause I have to admit even the Heroic Age and Classic boxsets were good rehashes.

But yeah, thanks, Zach. I too, appreciate your communication with us.

  11. Awesome. Kind of. At least I don't have to worry about buying 44 and these boxsets, I guess. I'm still going to need a Sentry.

Anyway these new characters look great and I can't wait

I'm in this line. Cool new figs, but no need to buy wave 44 now (haven't preordered yet anyway). I'll have to pick up Kree Sentries somehow though. Wave 44 should just be turned into an army builder wave.
