  1. At the risk of stating the obvious would scanning the packaging work?

    T.

Probably! The problem with the DC Minimates logo, for example, is there's the DC Minimates logo up top, with the Art Asylum and DC Direct logos in the bottom corners.

Ideally, I'm trying to find 'officially released' logos, rather than mock up my own.

Oddly enough, I can't find the "Art Asylum: Psycho Toys for Crazy Kids" logo anywhere online, either.

  2. Hey guys,

I've found tons of online reference for pics of all the various Minimate figures, but can someone point me to any nice-quality Minimate logos?

Ideally, I'd need clean pics of the DC Minimate, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel, and Rocky Minimate logos.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Just a quick update - I contacted Underground Toys and asked them about the status of the Doctor Who minimates. Here is the reply I received:

"Please read the next edition of ToyFare – there’s an article in there updating fans!"

I'm hopefully this means good news and that they want the official announcement in Toyfare, as I doubt they would be referring me to the issue for a rejection.

    Thoughts?

WOW... Thanks for the update! I've been eagerly wanting this line to be a hit....

  4. Of course if we ask Iron Cow really nicely I'm sure he'll be happy to see us rescale his Tardis for minimates?

Matt any issues with pointing people to this for a mini tardis, If they give you all the appropriate credit?

Oh MAN... LOVE THAT! Do you mind if I add that pic to my site in the 'fan art' section? I'd absolutely give you full credit, of course!

But... you guys might also want to consider the Doctor Who MICRO UNIVERSE TARDIS. Seems to be a really good fit! Maybe not perfect, but certainly close enough.

Got mine from WHONA.com for about $17, I think, though it sells out really fast.

  5. What a great idea to get more money from us! I will be getting 3 so that I can have all the Wasp variants displayed simultaneously, anyway.

Food for thought.... what if you swapped in a clear minimate head on some of the Wasps? You could essentially create a closet of all her costumes, or outfit display. Just in case you wanted some variety?

I always wanted to do that with my Batman Minimates (sort of similar to the outfit in the vault from the first Tim Burton movie), but you get the idea..

  6. Iron Cow confirmed that the Kirby avengers are a box set. So is this a stand alone box set or an SDCC exclusive they mentioned?

    Hey! No I didn't! =)

Honestly, the first I'd heard of the Kirby Avengers set was at the panel itself. I thought it was said it was a boxed set, but I wouldn't say 100% (mainly since I was too busy checking out the designs). Still, since 5 were shown, I think that lends itself nicely to a boxed set. An actual wave would probably have the standard 8 figures.

Still, very excited to see those! They definitely look fun.

  7. Thanks guys! Now, just to confirm... these are just the regular, standard Lego parts? Not Duplo or whatever it's called?

And Karamazov80, that's the 16x16 base, right? Can you measure it for me when you have a chance? I'm trying to fit a space 9" deep and am wondering what the best base might be.

Thanks again! You've been a huge inspiration!

  8. well there goes another batch of customs made obsolete

I woudn't say that at all. Your customs have a 3" scaled Hulk, along with super tiny Ant Man and Wasp. All of the figures in the boxed set would be the standard 2" sculpts, so just add them to your customs as relaxed "non-scaled" versions?

  9. Hey guys,

Sorry I didn't get the PM until this morning... Minimate panel was a blast, though.

One of the audience members suggested not only some First Appearance Kirby-styled X-Men #1 pieces, but there was also a suggestion of doing some add'l movie Minimates (Breakfast Club, maybe?) This triggered some back and forth, and I tossed in "Weird Science" as something I'd personally like to see. Anyway, Silver Screen 2-packs came up from the audience, and I think a Casablance set would be brilliant, particularly if done black and white or sepia toned.

Obviously this was just a fun Q&A, but I could definitely picture 'em!

    Hope everyone's doing well!

  10. Just wanted to chime in here and say that Donna was *amazing* to work with. Even though I worked with them from time to time, Donna was always a bright spot in the group. Well, actually, everyone at AA was great, but like Ivan said, she was the heart of the company.

Still, I have no doubt we'll see great things from her in the future. I'll miss emailing you the invoices, Donna! ;)

  11. Soooo... what was the plan for 9 and 10?

(in best Stewie voice) Yes, Do tell!

Ha! Sorry guys, no can do!

I really only chimed in because an earlier post could have been read as if the DC line was a one-person show as far as the design went, and this just wasn't the case. There were (and are) a lot of talented people involved in the whole process, so I wanted to clarify my limited involvement, just so there wasn't any confusion.

Plus, I'm not at liberty to comment on anything not officially released, etc. Sorry!

BUT... that said... I would love to see the DC line flourish. Definitely!

  12. Too bad we will never see Iron-Cow's work on Waves 9 and 10. :(

Awwww, thanks fellahs! Truth be told, though, I don't know if you would have seen it regardless?

I was going through some major burnout during my contribution to the DC line (and please remember, it was a team effort with a lot of people involved) I only handled the Ambush Bug, Clayface, Flash and Grodd from the latest wave, and only did the Sinestro/Salakk from the next batch.

Aside from the Cybermen and CyberController from Doctor Who (and the probably never-to-be-released Kelloggs stuff), that's it for me. At least for awhile.

I've spent the past year refocusing on my portrait painting, which has been a bigger passion of mine for awhile now.

The figures were a BLAST to work on, though, and there are a lot of talented people who contributed to the line. Hopefully if the next wave DOES see the light of day, it'll live up to the standards that have been set before. I'm hoping we'll see another 100+ DC Minimates, personally! And, who knows? I'd love to continue helping out with the line, so never say never.

Keep the fingers crossed. And I'll be right there with ya, hoping for more DC Mates!

  13. It would explain Iron Cow's cheeky comment. He knows what he's worked on and what hasn't been released. He may be expecting one last hurrah based on those outstanding designs.

Errr.... Let me clarify that. At the time, I simply meant was I was surprised to hear the line was *cancelled*.

You know how everyone was freaking out since nothing was shown? I just took the initial post as more of the same: "well, nothing's shown, the line MUST be cancelled!!!". You know how people can over-react with all the ToyFair excitement.

And then apparently whichever site WAS being quoted, actually DID say something to that affect.

So, I dunno. Don't take my word for it. My initial comment was more poking fun at some of the overreacting posts I'd witnessed earlier in the week.

Hope this clarifies (a bit!) Wait until DC Direct or Diamond, or someone official actually comments. =)

Believe me, though, I would *love* to see the DC Minimates continue. Definitely!
