  1. Two questions.....

    1) Can the Lego Batcave still be found retail for around this price? I know we have some Marshalls stores around here, but I don't think I've ever been in one. Guess I'll have to check it out.

    2) How do the other LEGO Batman sets compare to the C3 Minimates figs as far as scale goes? Will a Minimates Batman figure fit into the various Lego vehicles or are they too big for the vehicles?

    --Rick

dam for $15 I would buy it too..I am restricted due to space as far as playsets go but for that price it could hang out in the box for awhile even! great find!!

    Jeff of the Miniacs

Well damn, I spent all that time getting into these and they cancel the goddamn line. What a fing waste. I really love these little guys too.

  2. Sweet news! I was never a fan of the classic WHO, but I'm loving the new series (as well as Torchwood).

    --Rick

    H'lo

I don't think that there could have been any better news than this from Toy Fair 2008. Over the years the Minimate format has managed to attract many of my favourite comics and shows, but Doctor Who is the ultimate.

www.actionfigureinsider.com announced it on their homepage today. Underground Toys are beginning with a modest selection of six figures all from the current revived Doctor Who series: 10th Doctor in a suit, 10th Doctor in a long coat, Martha Jones, Captain Jack, Cyberman and Cyber Controller.

With over forty years of source material, this is a line that could run and run, and in the UK, the show and the merchandise are fantastically popular, with it seems products of one kind in every shop.

I've resisted Character Options excellent and thorough 6" series of figures in the hope that a block figure line was started. The fact it's Minimates is great.

I hope that this line can grow, Doctor Who is jam-packed with visually fantastic monsters and I can see ways less-humanoid monsters like the Slitheen and the Krillitanes can be manipulated to fit the Minimate frame (see DC's Salakk), oh and a TARDIS would be nice. Plenty to entice the general MInimate collector.

Finally, the Daleks seem to present the greatest challenge, both in terms of fitting the format and licensing issues. Here's hoping...

  3. Wow... I really hope we see some SW 'mates!! I used to collect the Kenner/Hasbro SW figures and had EVERY figure, ship, and playset made right up until the Phantom Menace. The new trilogy killed my desire to collect them. I would definitely collect Original Trilogy minimates though!! :)

  4. sick. Just bought mine. there's at least one more on e-bay for 16.95 BIN.

I just snagged that one! Bought 2 model kits to do a complete bridge set (all the way around). Bought the first one on a modeler's website for $10 (plus $8 shipping). They only had 1 kit available. Then bought the second one on Ebay (mentioned above). :)

Now I need to order a light kit as I plan on doing custom lights on the panel displays. Man, I'm looking forward to this project!! :)

Thanks for giving us the great pics and the idea to do this!!! --Rick

After picking up the 2 Bridge models, I found (and bought) these BACKLIT PANELS for the bridge. Now I just have to find a good light kit. Here's some pics from the auction:

  6. I've noticed that a lot of people have been wanting to display their Star Trek Minimates, so I bought the Amt Enterprise Bridge Model Kit made in 1992. After I got it at ebay, I quickly began to build it. Although, there is very little to really build at all. So I guess I should say that I began to paint it right away. And after I did that I had to put on the decals (which was a stressfull experience). However, after I put it all together and put my mates in it looked pretty cool (even though it's not the full 360 degrees). So for all of you out there who like Star Trek as much as me, here are some completely unedited pics (except for the blue around the viewscreen). By the way, you may notice some space between the stations because I did not glue them together in the event that I may want to move them around later.

Wow... This is perfect for the minimates. I just bought one online after seeing these pics. Will post some pics of my own once I get to build it! Thanks! --Rick

  7. Wow.. I'm really surprised by that. I'm very familiar with Lonestar (through their website). I've purchased a lot of back issues from them at really good prices. I don't know anything about their local shops, but their online shop is pretty good.

Also, I believe one of my favorite artists frequents their shops. Any of you familiar with Josh Howard? He created Dead@17. I'm a really big fan of his work. I know he lives somewhere in TX, so I guess that's why he does signings at those stores.

If any of you are ever in dallas texas, we have a lot of shops here, but one of them is this chain called lonestar comics. They do it all, loot stores, overprice, horrible policies designed to rip you off all under the front of it being a family friendly store. I have always had problems with this store and its service for over 10 years. They spread slander about other stores and I swear, no joke, the district manager looks and acts like a child molester.

TM2, if you ever are up here, please dont buy from them, there are all kinds of friendly shops around here, and the one I go to sells everything, chase or regular, from all lines for retail price. The shops that are not trying to get your money are the best ones. I paid 5.99 for my marvel zombies 2 pack. I couldnt even find it that cheap online before shipping.

  8. I'm all for supporting local comic shops, but unfortunately in my area there's one comic store that bought out almost every other comic store in the area and closed those other shops. They are now pretty much a monopoly in my area and are major jerks. They have a nice store, offer 10% discounts to subscribers, and have a nice selection of toys and comics. The problem I have with them is this: The guys that run the place hit EVERY ToysRUs, Walmart, and Target and buy out every rare toy, chase figure, etc, and then sell them in their store for majorly jacked-up prices! That pisses me off to no end! I refuse to do business with that store.

I now order my comics through scifigenre.com online. I get a 30% disount on all comics, plus they are bagged and boarded for free. I get them shipped once a month and shipping is very reasonable. I'll never deal with the local comic shop again. As for toys, I eventually find most of what I'm looking for on store shelves, or I order from reputable sites online.

    Rick

I frequent 2 shops in my area one is called Dragon Fyre Comics. Jim the owner of Dragon Fyre woun't purchase minimates but will special order them because they don't sell and they are a bit of of my way. The other shop I visit is New World Comics the guys that runs the store is pretty cool (I know someone else on this board goes there too [CRISIS Survivor, maybe?]) and he not only sells em but he collects them and makes customs too.
  9. I watch both series and am looking forward to the forthcoming Stargate: Universe (or whatever the third series ends up being called) and would buy SG minimates. As others have said there are infinite characters and variations to pick from. Though you can easily custom them up if you have some BSG minimates I've noticed. Duella's body plus White Queen's head and hair and makes for a nice Sam Carter. In fact I've been thinking about customizing my spare Thunderbird into a Teal'c, the face is just right I think.

I WOULD BUY EVERY STARGATE MINIMATE! I hope they make them. -Rick

  10. VBPANIZZI... I am looking for an unopened 5 pack of these figs. I'd really appreciate it if I could get a set from you. That is if you still have some available.

    Thanks,

    Rick

1 I would check your local Suncoasts because I am pretty sure this just happened I was there on Friday and they were still 19.99.

2 If someone wants one bad enough I can pick them up and then you can just pay me cost + shipping, and if you don't mind me opening them I can send them 1st class and it will be super cheap.

  11. Couldn't agree with ya more about Kelly Jones. He is in my Top 5 Most Hated Artists list! Mr. Liefield is also on the list!! I collect almost every DC book and hated when KJ was doing all of the Batman covers.

As for the larger minimates, I think it's a good idea! Characters like Bane, Doomsday, Kilowog, Darkseid, etc, should be larger. I think there should also be a slightly smaller size for characters like teenagers and smaller girls. It doesn't bother me that Batgirl and Batman are the same height, but to have Robin TALLER than Batman is kinda crazy. Still, I don't think Minimates are all meant to be scale. They are miniature block figures after all! Leave SCALE to the regular action figures. :D

    --Rick

Yes, I like the variety of scales. It's gotta make sense, though.

Bane (I hate him) is perceived as being huge by fans but he's really not supposed to be any taller than Batman, just a helluva lot more massive thanks to the Venom pumping though his veins. He's more like The Thing, not the Hulk. (THAT'S a character that needs a taller body.)

I dunno PL. I remember around the time of Knightfall ( I hated that story) The cover where Bane breaks Bats' Back :D and he was absolutely monstrous. You could argue that's artistic licence I suppose, but I always think of Bane as freakishly huge. In the 90's Batman cartoon Bane was head and shoulders above Batman. Again not canon but if you straw polled most fans and creative types they'd probably say Bane was scarily big. Some may wince as they said it.

Most of that was Kelly Jones - the artist on the covers at the time. He sucks IMO. He has JohnByrne-itis. That is a comic artist specific disease where the artist becomes known for drawing in a specific style and eventually cannot draw anything but that style. Barry Windsor Smith and JR jr also suffer from JohnByrne-itis. At this time, the only cure is to stop buying books when these artists are working on them.

Next up in this three part series on "Comic Artists' Diseases" we'll look at RobLiefeld-itis and how tracing paper can make you millions. For a preview click here. After that, it's our final installment of this series where we'll take a look at "PatLee-itis" and how to defraud comic industry professionals, come out of bankruptcy court AND keep your house & Porche.

See you next time, same Bat time, same Bat channel!

  12. I'd like to see HEROES, DOCTOR WHO, and STARGATE SG1. There are so many characters from SG1 that I'd like to see. I'd also like to see BUFFY and ANGEL (my two favorite shows). I believe another company made some a while ago?!

    --Rick

Daft Punk. (The new Kanye West song got me thinking of this one.)

I do love my Daft Punk Kubricks. I approve.

I've only seen blurry pics of those Kirby - any chance you have them posted on your site somewhere?

  13. Well, I'm 1 weekend into collecting these things and I've managed to track down most of what I'm looking for. Spent way too much over the weekend, but I've gotten the following, all MIB:

C3/DC: Batglider, Mini Batmobile, Chemical Warehouse, Throne Room, Batmobile, Batwing, Batcave, Mini Javelin, Nightwing Miniflyer, Stealth Batwing, John Stewart GL Exclusive, and all sets of Series 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Battlestar Galactica: Series 1 and 2 (including all Variants), pre-ordered Series 3

Star Trek: Series 1 and 2 (including all Variants)

On top of all that, I'm bidding on the Batcopter set and the Starbuck ToyFair figure. I set out to get only DC items, but couldn't resist the ST and BSG!

I got everything at decent prices, except for that Mini Javelin! Damn, I paid too much for that thing, but it would really bug the $#@@ outta me to be missing those figs!

Now I just need to get the rest of the Miniflyers and the Batcycle! Anyone wanna help me out with those? :)

  14. Well, I found the Street Fighters at my TRU the other day for $9.99. I thought, eh, why not?

Here's what I did with them:

    http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.ph...amp;#entry50326

We have a store here in Northern VA called FIVE BELOW. It's like a Dollar Tree. They have all of the Street Fighter / Darkstalker sets for $2.50 (saw them this evening). I posted this in another forum, but thought it would be fitting to post it here.
