  1. In answer to Hulk197's query, I've a Santa Spidey, he's very nice and cost me $25.00 about 3-4 years ago. I believe I bought it from our very own mini-venom and it came with the postcard too. :) It's not outragously rare but it's mine and I like it. :D

Wasn't my question, I think it was rx87... whatever's question. But thanks for the input. I had a few free Santa Spideys when he first came out, then sold them. Recently bought another for about $20.

  2. It makes me wonder if these are isolated issues that I was lucky enough to find. I do find it interesting that it's all from the same line. Has anyone else been having quality issues (particularly with GB mates)?

I also had a Librarian Ghost that came without her left forearm and hand. I was tempted to keep it and just buy another, but I took it back to Toys R Us and exchanged it. Hopefully they didn't just put it back on the peg. I feel bad, like it was a waste of a minimate. I wonder if they send that stuff back to DST for credit since it technically can't be sold. When I worked retail those things would be MOS, marked out of stock and sent back to the vendor. Maybe DST has a huge pile of returned mates and that's where they get some of the replacement parts?

  3. I'm one of the older members here and I have a 6 year old daughter. Obviously she's not on the internet yet. I'm also a teacher of middle school students and I know how 13 year olds talk. Personally, I don't think it's so bad to use the occasional swear / curse to emphasize a point. If everything you post has cursing in it, then maybe you need to expand your vocabulary.

I would hope that any parent of a 13 year old member here would at least monitor what they're reading every now and then. If not, they shouldn't have their kids on the net. I don't think anyone younger than 13 should be online unsupervised anyway, or at least there should be some kind of software to limit access.

Some people come here to blow off steam, and that's cool. I'm not here to be a role model, but I also don't want to be a bad influence either.

As for BHM's jokes - keep 'em coming! I don't think you've ever crossed a line and I enjoy the quick wit you have.

  4. Yeah, what they said. Packaging errors, for whatever reason, do not appeal to most collectors. I'm sure there are those few out there that do actively collect that stuff. I have a few minimate package errors and I like that stuff for the novelty, but people generally won't pay a premium for it. It's a mistake and thus considered "not mint." If you like the oddity factor, keep it sealed and display it as such. If not, open that sucker and try asking DST for a replacement, if you care.

As far as sealed two packs, that tape is very easy to take off of the cardboard boxes. It's very common, as we have been seeing lately, for people to do that, swap out a figure with a common, and tape up the box again. The workers at TRU don't have a clue about it, so it gets put back on the peg. Beware!!

  5. I dug up this
for those of you who are still not to familiar with the brand.

As far as how these will fair as minimates... I don't know. I'm just hopefull for some great customizing parts with these guys.

HA! Water beats fire, wood beats water... what an amazing concept to throw at 10 year olds! Your "battle" is over in 7 seconds. I think fire would beat them all, FIRE MELTS PLASTIC!!

  6. A little background - I got these when I was in college so it was probably around '93 or '94. I got them from 25 cent gumball machines at a grocery store. I'd grab a few every time I went shopping because they reminded me of the aliens from the Space Invaders video game. I would also sometimes get little versions of the Voltron Lions from the same machine, but they were more rare. The Lions were little snap together kits.

The hard plastic "armor" comes apart revealing the rubbery plastic aliens inside. Each one has a sticker for their "eyes" and there appears to be some humanoid attached to the torso of most of them. They are molded with a fair degree of detail. I've just never been able to find anything about them and I've never seen them again since. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  7. I think it's a bit late to use asterisks .

I didn't want to offend any youngsters that may not have caught the expletives in the picture. My apologies to all the parents monitoring their children who may be reading this. I quote Walter in the Big Lebowski, "F* it dude, let's go bowling."

  8. Those are some interesting instruction manuals on the bottom shelf. :P

HA! Oops! Didn't notice those. They are actually collections from the photographer Glen E. Friedman, F*(# You Heroes and F*&^ You Too. Amazing skate, punk and hip hop photos from the 70's - 90's.

  9. Rehoboth Beach outlet mall minimate madness!! I was in Delaware for some post chicken pox beach time and I went to the outlets. There is a store called Music for a Song and they had a bunch of minimates. Stuff I didn't buy, so go grab it if you're in the area - Silence of Lambs 25% off; Platoon regular price; Star Trek 2 packs 75% off; MWNN 2 diff 4 packs, I think they were 25% off; Hulk movie 2 packs at least 50% off, they were marking things down as I was there so they may have already put them at 75% off.

Stuff I did buy: 2 Avengers box sets at $5 each; Iron Man movie 2 packs $1.75 each; Secret Invasion 4 pack $5. I love finding cheap minimates! The hunt is the best part!

Oh yeah, if you're in that area and want to go to the beach, there is a Record and Tape Traders on the main drag leading up to the beach, just a few blocks from the boardwalk that also has some minimates. They also had Star Trek on sale and the Avengers box set, maybe a few others... I think they may be owned by the same company as the outlet store.

  10. Yeah... I'm not feeling this one myself. I think the comparisons to Duff and DSS are off too. At least those two sets had some originality and unique accessories. While I agree the Eddie Murphy likeness is spot on, 3 more guys in suits doesn't do it for me. The movie was good... when I was 11, but I'm not sure how well it holds up over time, at least for me. These smell of the 24 4-packs and I don't see them doing that well. Good luck DST, don't screw up a good thing by spreading yourselves too thin. Good for custom parts and civilians if you do the diorama thing!

The Judge Reinhold is intriguing since you could maybe make a custom of Brad from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Now that's a 4-pack I would buy!! Jeff Spicoli with his checkered vans and skateboard, Mr. Hand and a pizza, Phoebe Cates in bikini. The 80's did provide some classic films.

  11. Uh, that was series 3 in the picture. We got those.

Did we? You know, right after I posted it, I thought I may be wrong. I don't remember seeing a few of those myself. I'm not really into the BSG mates, but I have some and I will eventually watch the series. I guess there are a few I may have to hunt down. Thanks for setting me straight.

  12. Little surprised that we're getting two TRU waves, though. TRU must love Minimates right now...

It's nice to walk into a TRU lately and see Terminator, Spider-Man, Marvel and Wolverine movie minimates on the pegs. I would love to also be able to walk down the toy aisles at Target and see Minimates next to the Terminator and Marvel figures... perhaps soon with all the success at TRU, Target will get on board with DST again.

  13. WOW! With all the great rotting flesh ghosts and scary pieces we're getting, anybody else thinking "Zombie Army Building?" I know I am!! Looks like I'll have plenty of loose Winston minimates because I'll be buying at least 5 of those sets to get the taxi driver. I guess with all the extra Winstons, I can make random Ghostbusters out of Marvel heroes too. Damn... I'm a nerd.

  14. if i go today, and find all three,im pretty sure i can only get one, which one would be worth it the most?

When you see them, buy the ones YOU like best. Look at the pics in the thread and use those to help your decision.

I usually am not picky with minimates, but I think I prefer the endoskeleton without the chest piece and "diaper." The hands and feet somehow don't work for me either. Too big, and the silver doesn't match the arms and legs. I would have also liked the arms and legs to be clear with the silver tampo like the torso. Pic below shows what I mean, with Silver Surfer hands.

  15. Anyone wish to supply the UPC for those that can't just merrily stroll to their TRU without a parental and their car??

Posted earlier, but ask for product number 244964. That's the easier way rather than the sku # since the product number identifies them in the TRU system as Terminator minimates whereas the sku # for each package would be different.

  16. I will be definitely looking for these tomorrow. Hulk did they have the single display ones as well? Does the bandoleer come off of the jacket?

I found mine in the aisle with the smaller display of Terminator toys. They were in the process of tearing down the front of store Terminator / Star Trek display and putting up the new Transformers movie toy big-ass display. Yes, both bandoleers do come off, as well as the neat double belt piece on the SWAT guy. I saw no evidence of single display figures. I didn't think TRU was getting those. Are they?

  17. OK, my new fave minimate is officially the blast apart T-1000! See below the amazing blown up FCBD. I'm going to do a blown apart Colossus, I'll paint one blue and put it on Reed Richards, the possibilities are endless! Hell, it might even work for a "BAMFING" Nightcrawler. Sorry these are kind of dark...

I love that the Battle Damaged Arnold has his left arm ripped off to expose the endoskeleton.

  18. Thanks for the pics Hulk, They all look really good.

Can't wait to get my own. :)

I called my TRU and gave them the product number but they said that it wouldn't help them find it.

Though they said they only had the 3 inch ones and that hadn't gotten them in yet.

But for all I know they might not know what they are.

Then again, I tried to discribe them as best I could.

I've had varying shades of luck with TRU employees. Some know how to look the product number (different from the sku #) up and some have no idea. It all depends on who is answering the phone. The good ones will be able to tell you if there are / were any on the truck and some will even go do a physical count in the aisle. Unfortunately, the best bet is to go there yourself and see. Not always the easiest, but the only way to be sure.

Package pics. Any requests?? Yes, the Marvel poster is in all of them. Which, in my opinion, is a good thing for Minimates.

The gas mask / hair piece is molded in clear plastic, I'd like to try taking all the paint off...

Alternate hair w/out shades on the Governator and the endo w/out the extra chest piece. Torso is molded in clear with silver wrap-around tampo. Pretty sweet stuff...
