  1. I'm not saying Hickmans run is without its flaws here and there, no one's perfect. But like me and battle cat have said, infinity wasn't meant to be a big climactic event, it was another chapter moving his story forward.

Also I think that not even marvel knows what remender is doing with his avengers so I understand Hickmans choice to steer clear of them

  2. It depends on how its handled, the two most notable ones to me are Tony seemingly being dead in avengers and then groots sacrifice in guardians. Both of those had resonance past that moment, Tony had excepted he might die by taking the bomb to the portal so it's not unheard of to think his mind was simply telling him it was over, and then that experience caries on through his life, giving him panic attacks about impending alien invasion, it changes his view of the worl.

Then with groot, that was a literal death, groot knew he would be giving up his life to save his friends, but he still does it, it was about the emotional impact for the plot, showing you that these criminals had gone through so much together they were willing to die for each other. Groots "resurrection" is actually more like a reincarnation, James gunn has even said this may not be the "original" groot, either way he has to go through a whole new growth cycle, still pretty costly.

Yes there have been some red herring deaths that may not have been handled well, but fear of death is still a good motivation, at least for the viewers to make the emotional connection with the gravity of a situation

I don't think they need to kill anyone for it to be a good story, but logically, thor, hulk or vision make thematic sense and two of them kinda need to be off the table for civil war to be a fair fight

  3. I disagree, I think even looking at Infinity as a separate story is a mistake, saying it has unresolved threads is just simply untrue seeing as it all services the Avengers saga as a whole, Marvel just billed it as a crossover event when it was just another chapter.

also its already been an incredibly satisfying run, so im intrigued to read the finale

  4. Hickman luckily came in at a time when the Ultimates had lost their purpose, the Ultimate comics were created to bring a modern audience to marvel without needing to read years of continuity, but then it became just as convoluted as the 616 and lost its core purpose, Hickman and Bendis brought it back from the brink by simply trying new ideas seeing that the main line of comics have no found a formula to stay up to date while pushing things forward, and while its still suffering from some of the sins of its past, it is now servicing Hickman's secret wars, and that is worth it for his Ultimate Reed Richards, alone.

  5. My favorite Bendis run has definitely been All-New X-men, I think it works because his tendency to rewrite characters personalities sorta goes in hand with these being version of the characters before any other writers had written them (more or less).

also Immonens art for the first 4 volumes was so much yes and Sorrentino now is incredible too

I sorta count Uncanny as a companion book to this, though I prefer ANXM

not defending his other runs, i just think his style fits this book.

Whedon and Aaron are still my go-to X-books

  6. I actually think using the bigger chains to market animated series minimates is genius and I'm honestly excited to see the style of them

Zach what can you tell us about the extent of new tooling? /alternate parts/ accessories?

  7. sooo is it based on a current Animation? or are you just using our speculation and reaction to speculation to make your point?

either way very excited to see what you have in store for us

  8. I gotta say, im very excited to see what happens to Sue and Reed in Secret Wars, people say Marvel has been neglecting the F4 and maybe as a title thats true but Reed has been one of the main focus points of the Avengers books for almost 3 years now, it will be interesting to see how Secret Wars affects him and if he will survive his meeting with the Ultimate Reed Richards (I also strongly recommend Hickman's Ultimates with Esad Ribic) and what the First Family looks like coming out of it.

  9. I thought Johnny Storm died. I can't keep up anymore...

He was trapped in the Negative Zone where Death doesn't exist. There he died and came back multiple times before overthrowing Annilus' rule and returning to Earth.

    You know, that old yarn.

While there he also became the Leader of the Light Brigade (a group of chosen warriors from each of the Univeral Inhuman species) so im guessing that will be his connection to this team

btw Hickmans Fantastic Four run was awesome, strongly recommend it

  10. Im wondering who the creative team on this book will be, the Artist for that cover is Jerome Opena but that doesnt mean he will be the artist for the book as this is just the FCBD promo issue

Hickman is taking a hiatus from marvel and after his epic run of almost 3 Avengers books, I could see why he'd want a break

Remender has been a favorite of the Marvel heads lately but to be honest Im not the biggest fan of his Marvel work, Axis was shit and though hes redeeming himself with All-New Cap, im scared to see what he'd do to the awesome characterization of Kamala, Miles and Thor

Bendis did just sign another exclusive contract with Marvel...but please god no.

Warren Ellis has said that his Marvel project has already been selected for the year, but something tells me this is a longer term thing.

right now, Jason Aaron seems like the logical choice, G Willow Wilson is doing A-force (which hopefully will extend past secret wars) and Aaron's battleworld title ends, he will have no Thor title to continue, not to mention his work on Wolverine and the X-men and Original Sin was awesome.

  11. This team is AWESOME looking

And yes the team is a good reflection of the world they are protecting, sorry not sorry.

My thinking is that may be an Ironman from a different universe since we see Miles as the teams Spiderman, but I think its too early to tell, either way if this is the Avengers team coming out of Secret Wars, I will be very happy.

For the most part, these ARE Marvels Mightiest Heroes currently, Though I do think She Hulk and Captain Marvel would be cool inclusions

  12. I was a bit of an anime buff a while back but I have heard about AoT's popularity. It's no wonder the Japanese decided to make this their own movie after the stupid Dragon Ball: Evolution flick, Shaymalan's even more idiotic Avatar adaption and the financial flop that was Edge of Tomorrow. Hopefully Japan has had enough of Hollywood for a while...

Avatar the Last Airbender is actually an American made show but your point remains valid

the film looks decent, I honestly wish they had gotten European actors as the shows characters are mainly German

  13. I think at the end of the day I just want people to be open to new stories in comics that they have not read before, to experience new perspectives because thats the beauty of comics, its such a versatile medium and Marvel has obviously embraced that.

Also VIVA LA SPIDERGWEN (and Silk is an awesome book too)

I spend maybe over 50 dollars a week on comics every week (have been for the last 2 years) so whatever they're doing. its working.

  14. If they arent interested in what Marvel is producing than perhaps they no longer wish to be a Marvel fan? There is over 70 years of published collected comics if they wish to keep reading the same stuff over and over.

Above Kostis referenced Marvel using the films to showcase characters like Guardians, Inhumans, and Antman, lesser known characters that have never gotten the spotlight before, their popularity has made it so these awesome characters can carry their own series or even multiple of their own series, it gives them a chance to be taken on by writers who before now would have been turned down by Marvel. A Nick Spencer Scott Lang series could never exist before this film happened.

Not to mention some of the ideas in the films are GOOD, The Guardians film costumes fit their personalities exceedingly well. Ales Kot has done fantastic things with the new Nick Fury Jr and its awesome to see Coulson fanboying around in the new Shield series.

Just because something has been the same way for decades doesnt mean it should be.

Im not going to include Hawkeyes new costume because its actually not inspired by the film, seeing as the film was inspired by his ultimate costume, id say the comics look was just created to fit Fractions more down to earth tone which has made for a truly fantastic Hawkeye run.

If you are going into a comic book store weekly then you can flip through the comics before buying them, Marvel has also done a pretty good job of providing previews of almost every comic they release every week so by the time you buy it there are multiple ways to know what you are getting.

  15. "Marvel has been switching their continuity to be more in line with the MCU which i think is idiotic"

    1. Its not idiotic to tailor your merchandise to the literally millions of new fans who have just found your content and have only ever seen the MCU. Its incredibly smart and has proven successful.

    2. retcons are not new. retcons have existed from the beginning of comics and will continue till the end of time. retcons exist because you have hundreds of writers working on the same character over decades so eventually someone needs to veto someone else, it keeps things from becoming an outdated mess.

    3. Oh no they're using the name Secret Wars as a marketing ploy! ....so? the name has value AND also happens to fit thematically. To say that Jonathan Hickman has spent upwards of 5 years building up to secret wars just to market action figures means that you must think that of any comic book run so im not sure I understand your argument?

    4. The 616 is a number, there will still be a central continuity, maybe its not named the same thing but it will still flow from the prior continuity, it will also introduce a lot of new characters from the now collided alternate earths.

    5. Im not sure what comics you are picking up weekly but I still get excited when I open an issue and read a fantastic story. Change is not bad. the new Thor is a fantastic book, Superior Spiderman, Ms Marvel, Spidergwen, Silk, Moon Knight, All-New Ghostrider, Elektra, SpiderWoman, Silver Surfer, Antman, New Avengers. These are all fantastic series that offer new perspectives and stories and shouldnt be subjected to criticism just because you dont like that Marvel makes money from them.

    6. Comics are meant to be for everyone, and the beauty of it is Marvel is only one company. If you dont like what they're publishing, speak with your wallet, dont buy it, read DC, check out some awesome Image Comics, look at the cool stuff IDW or Boom is producing, look into webcomics, there are some really great ones.

    6. Lastly. Dont knock it till you read it. most important piece of advice, dont form opinions from website one-liners, form them after reading the book, otherwise you may be tricking yourself out of a great experience.
