  1. My Secret Invasion box set with two Jean Grey heads. One for Jean, but then the same head was on Jewel! To this day, I do not have a complete Jewel minimate because of it. I'd open it though and enjoy them, but that's just me.

  2. Alright kids, just got back from my LCS, and they have wave 25 shipping thursday, the 28th! I saw the order form from DST with my own two eyes! If my shop's getting them, they should be available in all comic shops that sell minimates. Next week!! (Reminder, for those here in the states, new release day is thursday next week due to the holiday.)

  3. I totally know what you mean, Mystery Man! Midtowncomics.com's new release list doesn't have them on there this week! Total bummer! That means comic shops won't be seeing them this week. Can anyone tell me if TRU is expecting them this week? My local one already has the Wolverine wave 26 in stock, can I expect wave 25 to show up next?

  4. Yes!! I would LOVE a new Nightcrawler mate! He is a very popular X-Man, and I think a modern version of him would sell really well. If I can be a nerd for a second and make a correction, though; Nightcrawler hasn't worn the yellow and black leather look since Grant Morrison left the book years ago. None of the X-Men have. His current look is even cooler though, it's reminiscent of the old one, only more simple and without those weird shoulder thingies. Here ya go...

And hell yeah, he better come with TWO swords! And have his tail be bendy, so that he could hold a sword with it, or hang upside down! That would be awesome!!

  5. I think YOU are.

(New waves take months --- January at the least --- to actually reach us in stores here. Hmph.)

Personally I'm kinda stumped as to why not that many people here seem excited over the upcoming Nova minimate. I figured that with all the recent storylines featuring him (Annihilation Wave, upcoming War of Kings) he'd at least have a decent-sized fanbase. And his minimate looks frakkin' awesome! (I'm amazed at the level of detailing... that star on his forehead!) Okay, I get that not many people here are crazy about "excessively-designed" minimates, but why don't I hear people complaining about Cloak or Gamora in that vein?

I personally can't wait for Nova, even though I've not read one of his comics. He just looks wicked cool. And his being paired up with sometime-love-interest Gamora sweetens the deal a little. ;)

Here, here, Nova is my most anticipated minimate release right now.

  6. With the recent release of the very cool Civil War box set, I can't help but think that AFX or someone will eventually release a Secret Invasion box set based on the wildly popular summer '08 Marvel event. If so, who would you like to see in it? Since most box sets seem to be 4-packs these days, we'll assume this set will be too. Here are my picks:

Modern Captain America and Modern Thor (they'll appear in issue #6)

Nick Fury w/crazy guns and a Super-Skrull with extra parts to create different Super-Skrulls

Oh, what the hell. My 5th pick: Captain Marvel

Of course this series is just getting started, so there may be better picks than these in the future. Throw in a couple of spare Skrull heads so that you can pop them on any other minimate you want, and I'd be a happy camper.

  7. Wave 25:

    Gambit and Mr. Sinister

Jim Barnes Captain America and the Red Skull

Black Panther and Storm (with an Armor Black Panther variant)

    Wave 26:

    Annhilus and Quasar (Phyla-Vell)

    Dazzler and Longshot

Ares (modern) and Black Widow (with a Black Widow II variant)

    'Nuff said!

  8. So glad I stayed for the credits. This film was amazing, just what Marvel Studios needed on its first run. Downey was awesome, I marveled at this film like I did the original Spider-man. I was skeptical about Favreau as director, but after seeing it, I couldn't picture anyone else making this film just like I couldn't see anyone but Downey as Tony Stark. This film is going to mop up at the box office.

Sorry speed Racer, but I think the Iron Avenger has your number.

  9. I don't mean to knock AFX, guys. After all, these are the people who brought us the amazing Defenders set. I'm merely stating what happened to me. I've also ordered a Luke Cage/Raft Sentry from them in the past, and the variant figure was broken. But I did get a message on my phone (I missed the call because ironically I went to go see the incredibly awesome Iron Man movie! Hint: stay until after the credits!) about my problem and AFX seems as bewildered as me how I managed to receive two packs that were missing an Iron Man mask. I honestly believe it isn't their fault, but perhaps Art Asylum's or whoever packs these things up. Anyway, they assured me that they will personally take a set apart and send me the Iron Man mask.

You can't deny that if you were me, and you received defective merchandise from the same company 3 out of 4 times that you ordered from them, your faith in said company would be a little shaky afterwards. All this, and their shipping prices are ridiculous.

Oh, and I'm not a Trekkie, karamazov80, so please educate me; what the hell is a Spock Elf?!

  10. I have had a nightmare dealing dealing with AFX. Get this, I ordered the Civil War set and it arrived with two Spidey masks and no Iron Man mask!. They responded quickly, and I was told by phone that the mask would be sent to me shortly. I just received it and they sent me a whole new pack of Civil War mates, minus the Iron Man mask!!! Unbelievable. MidtownComics.com gets these exclusives in stock and sells them online. Much cheaper shipping, and ten times better service. I'm currently waiting for a reply to this second shipment, and I'll post on this thread what AFX does to rectify this.

  11. Man, where's the love for the Nova minimate? He's currently one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe, has an amazing costume, and single-handedly ended the Annihilation Wave by ripping Annihilus' guts out through his mouth!! How cool is that?! He also has his own ongoing, which is consistently entertaining. Every Marvel character that has his or her own series should have a minimate by now (that's your cue, Moon Knight!). I for one am psyched about this line, and the inclusion of the Human Rocket is a big part of that.

  12. Decal paper is a special paper that usually comes in either clear or white. You can purchase it from decalpaper.com (It's available for inkjet printers.). I haven't had any luck with white, but clear waterslide decal paper works great with dark colors. Light colors printed on the paper tend to let the color of the minimate come through underneath.

So, if you want to make incredibly detailed, professional-looking chest muscles and such, decals is the way to go. But some painting will still be required for lighter colors. Also, you have to design the decals, so Photoshop skills are a must.

  13. I really want to make a modern Moon Knight, all gritty and raggedy like Finch draws him. I'm looking forward to working on a white mate. I'll have a lot more freedom on photoshop to make some kick-ass detailed decals, having a white base and all.

  14. Nope, this is my first. All it took was getting the right supplies and following the tips presented both here and on minimate headquarters.com. I do have an artistic background, however, and carefully planned out the creation of Marv with a template, shown here. I've included the Black Bolt template here as well.
