  1. I don't know. I can't see the line being cancelled. It would be October or later before wave 9 would actually hit shelves, so it may be a little early to even show prototypes. If we reach SDCC and nothing is shown, then we'll stick a fork in our DC mates.

I've really enjoyed the DC line. Although I'm a Marvel kid, I really love the DC minimates, almost moreso than some of the Marvel ones. We at least need some of the more mainstream characters made: Black Canary, Kyle Rainer, Plastic Man, The Atom, Captain Atom, Beast Boy, Terra, etc. Not to mention more of the Bat-family and their adversaries (Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Ra's).

  2. Yes! More Marvel, please. And characters so obscure I don't even know who they are, and I'm a die-hard Marvel guy!

Also, I'm really liking the Rocky III mates. It looks like we do get the alternate hairpiece for Thunderlips (no pimp hat), and Clubber's hair is not sculpted to the head, from what I can tell.

The only problem I have is that that War Machine is waaay more detailed than the standard Iron Man mate we already have. James has the better armor.

And I see the "Living in America" Apollo Creed from Rocky 4, but I see no Drago. . .whatsupwitdat?

I only noticed one other new Rocky that didn't fit in the Rocky III set or the two pack with Paulie. Maybe they still have to finish the Rocky IV 4 pack?

EDIT: I knew I had seen the blue and yellow guy before. He's an old Iron Man villian: The Spymaster

  3. Wow, the Charlie Sheen Platoon mate is a really great likeness.

And I'm loving the Rocky III set. I can get a "non beat up" boxing Apollo by switching heads with Rocky II, a Clubber Lang (yes!) and a sweet Thunderlips. I'm liking Rocky's belt, as well.

I really like the Angel Eyes figure from TGBU, but It seems like I'll be too burnt out on Clint Eastwood sculpts by the time this set is out.

  4. I just picked up my set too. Grodd and Clayface are both 2.5"

I don't know the story behind Grodd's skull either. I was surprised at the red hair that came with Flash. I thought this was Barry Allen, but I guess it's Wally (Barry Allen had blonde hair, right?)

I was pretty surprised with Lobo too. I haven't opened him yet, but the detail is really nice. The chain is either chrome or real metal. Very nice.

  5. I guess this explains the explosion of Minimates across other licenses this past year. DST is trying to reduce its dependance on the Marvel license with ST, BSG, moviemates, etc.

It just seems like minimates were really picking up across the board, and now we could lose one of the major anchors. :(

  6. Wow! They've really screwed up haven't they?

I had misgivings over JMS's tenure when he introduced the concept of the Spider-Totem. Gwen's kids were a step too far for me and I stopped reading. To read that JMS really wanted them to be Peter and Gwen's kids all along is irritating in the extreme. This seems to me to be the start of another Spidey backlash, just like we saw with the Clone Saga. Why do Marvel allow these guys (JMS, Kevin Smith etc) to get away with this crap?

There's only really one Spidey book now. Bendis gets it right every month. Stick with Ulti Spidey. It's not the only game in town, but it is the best.

To be fair, this is Joe Quesada's doing. JMS only wrote the dialog. Quesada wrote the plot.

But hey, for no reason at all, Harry is back!

  7. now the buffalo bill just freaks me the hell out.... but on a side note, you can take a "marvel party girl" minimate and recreate the "tucked weiner dance" scene from the movie....

Oh come on, you know you were thinking about it too! don't judge me monkey

    That's sick!

But I was thinking that too.

Buffalo Bill is freaky! "Wasn't she a big fat person?"

And a Good, Bad and the Ugly set. Now I can have my Angel Eyes figure shooting up Doc and Marty.

  8. Anyone have this issue...

I put in 2 orders so I could get 2 Web Armor Spider-Mans. I paid $11 shipping on the first order and $14 on the second. Well they arrived today combined in 1 big box that was crushed and ripped. I weighed the box and went to UPS and the cost to ship was only $12. Now I understand padding it a little for handling costs but to combine shipping and not provide a refund on some of the shipping is highway robbery.

I keep trying to call them and all I get is their voicemail. Does anyone have a number other than 866-SHOP-AFX?

The same thing happened to me, crushed box and all. I'll give them a call on Friday. $10 is at least another set of minimates.

  9. Got mine in yesterday, just in time since I'm leaving for the holidays. I love the Dr Strange. The jury is still out for me on the Hulk. There is something about him that seems to keep him from being perfect. Certainly a step up from the old Hulk though.

Also, I had a pre-order in for the Defenders set, and I placed an order for a bunch of other stuff to get the Web armor spidey. They both arrived in the same (crused) package. It would have been nice of AFX to refund me a little of the shipping charge, if they were automatically combining stuff. As it is, I was hit with about $25 of shipping.

Just wanted to note that I am disappointed that we will probably never see Nighthawk or Gargoyle minimates. . . :(

There's always hoping for a Squadron Supreme set for Nighthawk.....or he could even be in a Thunderbolts set.

  10. Still nothing for me. I got an e-mail on the 8th saying it was shipping soon, but I haven't gotten another notice that the item ever shipped. I also placed a second order for the web armor spidey, and never got a confirmation e-mail. I'm trying to contact AFX, but can't get through.

  11. Zues is certainly the best store in DFW. I don't know if Lonestar is really as bad as some say. They do the same stuff that most other comic shops do, but since its a chain, and they are all over the metroplex, I think they get more criticism. There are a couple of other comic stores in my area (Arlington), but they all seem to gouge just as much as Lonestar. But Lonestar carries minimates and is convienient. It's hit or miss with the people that work there though. Half of them are rude and condescending, the other are just college students.
