I paid to see it at the theater. I was too stunned, too stupefied with what was on the screen to move. By the time I fully registered what they had really done, they created the afore mention 1 inch opening, and at that point morbid curiosity took over. Kept waiting for the Bobby-in-the-shower twist ending that never came.

You know what I would like to see? An alternate ending for the franchise, like a Superman Returns deal, where they retcon 3 and 4 (or just the last 20 minutes of 4).

  2. Currently, right now, I am watching Global Rally Cross. But I recently watched Alien Covenant and John Wick, and plan to watch John Wick 2 soon. In terms of TV, I'm trying to get back into Legion and The Get Down season 2. I also recently started a series that I quite like; Tales by Light, it essentially documents photographers around the world, and as a photographer I enjoy it a lot.

Oh you poor unfortunate soul, in pain, in need... sorry, wrong movie.
As with Predator, see Alien and Aliens, Skip the rest. Well you can watch the first 3/4 of Aliens 4 (Be sure that you stop AS SOON as Ripley gets separated from the group/captured by the Xeno's and then turn the movie off and NEVER finish it. You will be happier that way... trust me on this!!!)

What?! You're saying you didn't like

    Spoiler

the creepy human-alien amalgam getting sucked into the vacuum of space through a 1 inch-wide hole?? Oh, and of course part-alien-cloned Ripley 'doing the deed' with an alien queen?? Can't imagine why you'd skip the end of Alien Resurrection, lol.

Anyways, looking back, that advice would have been much appreciated before viewing Alien 4 for the first time.

I just saw the names of the Neomorphs. Those made me laugh. Teenage and Toddler. ROFL.

I just imagine one like crying a bunch, throwing temper tantrums and the other whining about how he can't stay out late.

Must say, I thought that at first too, but it makes sense after seeing the neomorph's growth throughout the film.

I will admit to taking the names I was given for this wave and not researching them too much. Regret that now!

I feel like it can be hard to judge what characters to make when you just receive a list of names before the film is released. Like I said I think getting Elizabeth Shaw is actually quite nice as she was probably my favorite human character from Prometheus, but I think David is a popular character in both films that could of replaced one of the Xenos or even the phantom Xeno.

  5. Didn't realize this until I just recently saw the movie, but

    Spoiler

Elizabeth Shaw is not actually in the movie, unless you count her corpse. The figure in the wave is actually based upon the character as seen at the end of Prometheus and I guess the Alien Covenant Prologue: The Crossing. Just seems like an unusual choice to be apart of the lineup after seeing the movie. I suppose it's nice to get a little bit of representation from Prometheus, since I doubt we will get a wave from that movie.

Also, not sure if someone has an answer to this, but

    Spoiler

was there a visual difference between the two Xenomorphs spawned in the film? If so, that makes sense why we got a Regular Xeno in the TRU wave, and then A 'Goran' (seemingly based off the actor's name) Xeno in the specialty wave. However, if there was no visual difference (I saw none), why did we get these two distinct variations?

Apologies to anyone who hasn't seen the movie and is attempting to read this post, I'll leave some non-spoiler thoughts on the movie. I liked it. It was a better rendition of what I expected Prometheus to be (but without the name Alien in the title I shouldn't have expected it to be like Ridley Scott's original). It did a great a job at answering some unanswered questions from Prometheus while also directly connecting itself to the original Alien, thus deserving of the title Alien. I actually think this movie made Prometheus look a bit better especially if you watch the Prologue: The Crossing before seeing the actual movie (I didn't). As for the action and suspense, it certainly lives up to the original and provides a lot of great 'Alien-esque' scenes (not sure I can say much more without giving spoilers). As a fan of the franchise and someone who found Prometheus to be a strange addition to the franchise (yet an intriguing sci-fi movie on its own), I enjoyed Covenant, and definitely recommend to anyone who has seen the original Alien and/or Prometheus, though I have to admit, parts of the film would be difficult to understand without having seen Prometheus.

Wait...are you telling me that all of you kids aren't playing with fidget spinners, listening to Tyler the Creator and abbreviating or using acronyms for every word in your vocabulary?

....you've forever changed my opinion on young people.

Oh I don't know  . . . I heard fidget spinners are all the rage these days.

I think this is a lesson in why we should not start threads too early.

If it helps, there is no overlap between 74 and 75. More hero-villain pairs. Some New characters. Some ex-Avengers, but who hasn't been one.

    That's part of the fun!

I wait for trades since you basically get 3 or so issues for free at about $15 a trade and 7-8? Issues in a trade usually.

Most modern trades that I've read are 5 or 6 issues compiled together. Seems the traditional number is 6, though it all typically depends on the length of the story arc.

Saw it today and it was great. I'm starting the campaign for a Ned minimate in the sequel wave right now. He was hysterical. ?

Still not sure why his name is Ned, as from what I've seen from the trailers he's a complete rip-off of Ganke from Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (and now Spider-Man).

Considering Jimmiie Hudson is the new Wolverine from the Ultimateverse I"d say he's a lock.

I highly doubt that considering when I mentioned him in a comment earlier today to Zach regarding 74, he hadn't known who Jimmy was or that he had entered the 616. Though surprises are always welcome . . .

  10. Alright folks, sorry for the delay, but here you go: the photo can be found here. Since the background is more fuzzy than I anticipated, here is your hint:

The 'mate pictured is one of the few heroes who hail from this American state, pictured is the largest city in that state.

Fixed that for you. This is an updated costume for a current X-Man.

Thank you   The point is he's been given two recent (modern) costume variations in the past year. Many other X-Men have not. I will probably still pick up this two pack if not for anything else but hope that we will get some other members of X-Men Gold (Or any of the new costumes from Resurxion) and because I did appreciate the original Old Man Logan storyline.

    2 hours ago, DSTZach said:

I'm fairly certain the grey costume is too recent to have been added here, and that would be the fourth X-23, so at this point you're being fairly arbitrary. If it lasts more than 10 issues, I'm sure we'll get to it. I didn't know who Jimmy Hudson even was until now, being a late-in-the-game Ultimate character, but now that he's in the 616, we can track his profile.

Completely understandable, that's what I imagined as the turn around time for costumes that new would be pretty crazy. As for X-23, I primarily suggested that just because it gives me so much nostalgia for those Remmender X-Force costumes. And yes, I'm hoping Jimmy and the other Ultimate X-Men characters that have popped up in the 616 will prove to be popular, though if you haven't  heard of him, I can't say it has been so far. But, I also can't say enough about the cool things Cullen Bunn is doing in X-Men Blue.

Three Kitty Prydes already, hopefully we can do a new one soon. Ask DST about all of this stuff! Chuck reads the requests. He reads here, too, but I don't know how closely.

I would love if you could do a new one soon! As a fan of modern comics I tend to focus on more modern looks. The one modern Astonishing costume for Kitty Pryde is extremely outdated and I would love to see anything closely resembling that same costume that she's worn for more than a decade (with slight variations of course). Sorry to banter, but I will definitely do that. I never think of requesting things in Ask DST because I am generally very satisfied with the range and quality of products you guys produce. And I am by no means saying this wave will be any different. I think this just goes back to what are similar concerns that members had with the character selection for the blind bag series.

Are you threatening us? :D :batter:

I would also not say there have been four. One was an SDCC exclusive in 2009 -- 8 years ago (!) -- and it got a coatless re-issue at TRU that same year, which I would call the same figure, essentially, or at least a variant. It was SO OLD ("How old was it?") that it was arguably in need an update, which it got in the Secret War series -- same outfit! Then there was one in the blind-bag series with a second outfit from the original story. So that's two outfits.

Seeing as he's currently the 616's active (Logan) Wolverine, a member of X-Men Gold and on the 25th issue of his solo series, I think another would make sense, especially as it was pointed out that we haven't actually made his current 616 costume. It's a great story, and he's one of Marvel's A-list, so I think he's the special-est at what he does, and what he does is pretty special.

    ...Uh, just saying.

Maybe . . . . In all seriousness, my point is I'd much rather see an updated costume for a current X-Man (Or even a different Wolverine). We've seen Laura's new black and gray costume, plus Jimmy Hudson just got introduced into the 616 (So why not these guys? Too recent?). Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of X-Men Gold, there are a couple other X-Men Gold members I would love to see made in their new costumes; most notably Kitty Pryde and Prestige. Plus he only has two notable outfits (which we've received this past year). The only update I could imagine would be his short leather jacket with fur on the inside (or far less likely a version where he wears partial Iron Man armor to escape the White House).

I also specifically said 'iterations' because 3 of the previous we're based on almost the exact same outfit.

  13. I think if DST knows what's good for them they will not be giving us a 5th iteration of Old Man Logan. I like the character and story enough, but he really is not that special . . .

  14. I thought it was also mentioned that the spider-verser was not from an alternate reality?? Can someone confirm or deny this?

  15. As I'm pretty young and didn't grow up reading the 'classics', I look forward to newer costumes/characters, primarily X-Men. I would love to see Bendis' Uncanny X-Men rounded out after getting Magneto:

    Emma Frost/Stepford Cuckoo

    Magik/Goldballs

    Magneto (White costume)/Triage

    X-Face Cyclops/Tempus

I also enjoyed Bunn'sas run on Uncanny X-Men to also want that roster, maybe a box set:

Archangel (costume seen in AvI), Psylocke (w/ butterfly effect!), Magneto (primarily purple costume, also seen in X-Men Blue), M(Monet, with creepy tongue hands)

drawing out mysterious characters for an explosive debut...?  Sound JUST LIKE THE COMICS!!!!

Except in the comics, they actually eventually produce a story arc with said character. In movies, the series gets cancelled before they can produce a movie where the character features as a main antagonist . . . *sigh*

Lilandra... yeah she qualifies, she is alien, and classic, and female, I guess over the years I think of her more as an X-Men character than a "proper" cosmic character. Which is weird since I figure her sister Deathbird as more of a general cosmic villain. But the I did guess them earlier so why not now?

I'd agree about consistently connecting her to the X-Men, but if it is possible, this would be my top choice for that slot
