  1. Hmm... I wonder how they will be "sold" if their cereal mates? Free Minimate in everybox!

Not to mention that much the previous debate about if Minimates were McDonalds Happy Meal toys about kid-safety comes to mind...

lol I cant see them being in every box... small parts in minimates are probably a chocking hazard! - not to mention there are probably too pricey to manufacture as a 'giveaway'

I have heard rumors though about how they are going to be packed though.....and it's a cool idea but I'll wait to see what images we get from AA before spilling the beans though, as what I heard was 'hearsay' and want to see what AA are going to show us.

    T.

    Don't gimme that sh!t!! :D Spill what you've heard d@mn it! :D

  2. I think that IF they are doing Cereal mates that you have to look at if from a "this could be really good to get new people on board..." angle. (fed up of hearing me say that yet? :P)

Lil kids will love them, non comicbook people will look at minimates for the first time see characters they know and go those are kinda cute....

While I'm sure that's true, the trouble is, how to distribute a line such as this?

Comic shop owners might pick up a few, depending on how Marvel/SF/DC stuff is doing for them at the time, but really, 'cerealmates' isn't a comic book store's 'niche' market.

A specialty store, such as Suncoast or Tower, might pick some up, but again, would these really appeal to that crowd? Maybe - maybe not.

Pack ins for the cereal itself? Could be, but I don't see say, Kelloggs paying AA to have these distributed in boxes of Apple Jacks or Frosted Flakes. Cereal box toys tend to be of the >.25 variety IMO and I can't see a quality product like this factoring into their margin #'s.

I can see the appeal of broadening the Minimate fan base and I think a more generic license/line is a good way to do so. However I think this line is going to have a tough time finding a home on store shelves. Especially if you're wanting them to open up a whole new group of people to collecting them.

  3. Hasn't this been done before? Not that Minimates won't be better, I'm just tired of hearing the epithet "Kubrick knock-off."

Of course Medicom only did Kellogg's. Maybe AA has the license for General Mills (Trix/Lucky Charms/Count Chocula/etc), Post (Sugar Crisp/Fruity Pebbles), Quaker Oats (Cap'n Crunch/Quisp/Mr T) or Ralston (Cookie Crisp).

Looking forward to them, no matter what the license. :) I'd love to get my hands on a Cap'n Crunch Minimate.

Ya beat me to it Ivan! :D

I can't imagine how 'mates would compare to the Kubricks or compete with them in any way. If they try to do sculpted heads, then yes, I can see the comparison. I picture them as having molded hair/ears/caps/etc. If nothing else, this line could be great for customizers!!

  4. I too would like to see a Kingdom Come Superman and Batman. And while we're at it a Kingdom Come Green Lantern and Flash.

We're almost getting a KC Superman in the Braniac set (or is it the Lex set?) - the one with the red and black \S/ - all it really needs is a little grey at the temples and you'd be set.

KC Flash is a great concept simply because I want to see more translucent mates. I'd want a complete JSA first though, before getting into the Ross-verse. So, a JSA Batman, Superman, Batwoman, and Robin would be high on my list as well.

Hopefully DCD mates will expand beyond SuperBatWoman and branch out to the rest of the DCU. (I'm really digging that Adam Strange custom I saw recently on the customs board!)

  5. Wow so after all the guesses over which are the next new mates to hit it looks like it will be Speed.

Easily my least anticipated of the bunch. I like Speed Racer as much as the next guy, just not sold on the new version or seeing them 'mated. I preferred the Resaurus line myself. Of course, that could change once I see the actual product (lord knows it did with LOTR when I couldn't resist buying them).

I'm much more interested in seeing the BSG and DCD stuff right now. (I think Marvel is even further down the list than Speed though, sadly...)

  6. Can't say as I'm really suprised. Security was pretty lax last year in Chicago as well. Since SDCC is the largest con of the year, I'm suprised it took this long for the thieves to start hitting 'em hard.

In Chicago I could have easily walked off with a handfull of AA prototype 'mates, a bunch of the Joyride BSG stuff, and a number of original art pages had I been a dishonest sort of con goer.

It's too bad, but honestly, not suprising.

  7. ah damn

i threwup a beg and im not on the list

the list is fixed i tell ya fixed

    lol

Sorry! That was the whole point of this thread - there were just too many individual requests scattered through the forums, so I tried to combine them all here. I must have missed yours.

  8. Ultimate Cap would be so easy to do ... and it is also VERY desirable.

I have a feeling it is just going to be a straight reissue, but there is still a shred of hope that it's a simple repaint.

    * crosses fingers until we see pics *

Totally agree. Would it be so tough to do something other than Cap & BD Cap? If you're going to reuse the mold and feel that it's a character that'll sell and sell and sell, why not do variations on the costume, such as Ultimate Cap or US Agent? Heck, I'd even buy an Invaders Cap with his original shield.

Now, I wouldn't go too far with this - there are only so many Cap variants possible. As an example, a Heroes Reborn Liefield Cap with man-boobs  would be one Cap too many. :D

  9. Neo and Infallible - done and done.

My apologies go to Drgnbrn316 who let me know about his request earlier this weekend and I apparently skipped adding him to the list. Sorry bout that. It's fixed now.

Oh, and gang - this is simply Timbo's show - I just thought I'd keep a list to help out. All the credit goes to Timbo (and other SDCC going members) for this.

  10. " in brightest day" was the password and Yes it seems theyt run out of these..

Glad the promotion went over well then.

So at present it's looking like around 15 I'll have to share with you guys!

Priority is probably going to be based of who asked first and those who couldn't make it for extreme reasons.. i.e. living on a dif continent... (Yes Danny I'll have one to you for review ASAP)

Glad you were able to get so many Timbo. However you distribute them is entirely up to you. If you want to go from the bottom up :D that's cool by me - I was just tracking the names to avoid confusion in multiple threads here on the forum.

P.S. Anyone gonig to WWW Chicago should reove themselves from the list as they will be given away there too!!!!!

Good to hear. Do you all think we should keep this list active until then or start over with a new Chicago related list?

Major kudos to TBT for tracking these down.

Not that Im expecting it but please no one start moaning if they dont get one of the "free" ones that board members managed to snag for others.

Its not like they are impossible to get, last I checked ebay there are 20+ of them on there, most for a grand total of around $15 including US shipping.

Totally agree Ady. I've pulled my name off the list since I was able to snag one from a reasonable seller on ebay. Anyone else?

  11. Actually, to get the color on the clear mate, All i use are Sharpie brand Markers!

Darker colors you may have to do a few passes because you'll miss some spots....and be sure to do it in good lighting so you don't miss areas.

Rainbow colors aren't difficult to get on, but Black is a bit more difficult and tends to remove itself when putting it on.......black takes a bit of time, but the colors apply nicely.

    Hope that helps!

Definately does! And it'll save me some time! :D
