Star Trek TOS Series 1 Production Run

Recommended Posts

OK gang, I need some feedback here, because this is really stumping me... I have noticed all DST cases for minimates are hand numbered on the sides. Most Marvel Series are numbered # xxx of 2500... and some series were even produced 5000 cases.

I noticed that my Star Trek TOS cases are numbered # xxx of 900. That is an insanely low production run. If this was ALL they produced, how do they make money? 900 cases x 12 packages = 10,800 total 2 packs. Let's say they net a couple bucks off of each package... can we really believe that DST only profited $20k off the production of this wave?

And only 900 Variants exist? That is pretty rare.

Maybe the unavailability of reorders (heresay, I am just repeating what I read from other posts this week) is temporary, and more will be produced?

I have no idea.

I also noticed that the Marvel Series 16 wave that I received today was limited to 1400 or 1600 cases. (I can't remember, they are out in my car at the moment). Seems strange they would cut production so drastically.

Well, not sure how many cases were produced or if they were all produced in one run. However, these are not limited or numbered items. I guess they could always run off another X number of cases if they wanted to. They have done it with their Marvel Select stuff, so there is no reason they wouldn't do it with minimates (that I know of). Just my 2 cents...

Wow, if they really did only make 900, then I would have to guess that Suncoast may not be getting any? :(

I was counting on them since my comic shop didn't order any.

Well, if anyone can help that would be great: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=3357

I struck out at the Suncoast stores this weekend Looking for some xtras. No new BSG or ST yet.

Try here... they look available and the price is about as good as you're gonna get.

I don't think those numbers necessarily represent the actual product run. I had the same experience with buying cases of SOTA figures, and I asked the same question. If I remember, that number is just for when it comes to shipping and distribution. I would venture that is the case here as well (excuse the pun).
