  1. I'll just never understand the mindset of looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I'm not sure how you get your minimates, but I've never had DST give them to me as gifts, I've had to pay for every one. When I get free minimates I promise not to complain, otherwise I'm going to feel free to offer opinions, "ludicrous" or not.

  2. I think Invisible Woman's shield works better though. More curvy.

That's my issue with it, it's so curved that it doesn't look like a shield to me, especially if Cap is anywhere nearby. I'd rather have it than nothing, but I imagine when I get Taskmaster he'll acquire some other accessories and the shield will get thrown in a box with other extra accessories.

Well sure, but the curvier shield is accurate; his doesn't look like Cap's.

Really like Taskmaster's grey and blue combo; his eyes really pop too.

I've never noticed Taskmaster's shield depicted significantly differently than Cap's shield, but I've only read 3 or 4 books that featured the character and those skewed more modern, so maybe my issue is with the source material.

That issue aside, it is a fantastic update.

  4. Also, to the complaints about no MAX Zombies - Zach said it himself:

Wait till you see the other zombies in the line. I picked the tamest, most standard one. The others get increasingly more horrific, and while I'm not sure how many are based on actual zombies in the book, they all look great.

If they're not all "book specific," why couldn't they mix the MAX ones in? I'd be perfectly happy with that! There haven't been too many "stand out" zombie characters from the books, I, for one, would not object to having random, generic zombies (like MAX was) side-by-side with Glenn or Andrea. Why not?

They might mix in some zombies like the MAX ones, but the humorous touches like the brain ice cream cone or the lawyer's file that says "BRAINS!" aren't going to make it. That's the kind of thing I'll miss.

  5. This is great news for DST, but I can't shake the feeling that I would have much preferred Maximum Zombies.

Wait till you see the other zombies in the line. I picked the tamest, most standard one. The others get increasingly more horrific, and while I'm not sure how many are based on actual zombies in the book, they all look great. The team is trying to balance humans and zombies in the line, and I think they've found a mix that works. You need the civilians to move the line forward, so it's not just zombies, and I know that a lot of you WANT more civilians. Win-win. Plus, the comic designs have a lot of character to them, and that will come across.

I'm fairly confident I'll like the civilians in the line, or at least enough to make it worthwhile. And I'm sure the zombies will be fantastic. But I found the mix of horror and comedy suggested in the Maximum Zombie protos to be more interesting and a great fit for minimates. I suspect I'll pick up plenty of these anyway, just slightly less enthusiastically.

  6. I really like the Worthy set, Thing in particular. I thought from the first time that design was revealed that it would pop as a minimate. The Mighty set is worthwhile for Odin and probably Iron Man, but I still think Marvel mostly missed a chance to do some interesting designs for the characters and weapons and gave us obvious ones instead.

  7. Has anyone else seen the individual figures being sold at retail? Target had them when I stopped in yesterday. Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser were supposed to be available, though I couldn't find Bowser. Best of all they aren't blind-bagged.

  8. The torso isn't pushed all the way down. I used one of the rings that made up the original Uncanny X-Force Wolverine's gloves to hold it up, but I'm sure it would stay if you just didn't push it down all the way. It's not a much extra height as a torso extender gives you, just enough to make the vest look a little better. No other changes.

  9. Am I the only one annoyed that this is three whole waves of retread Avengers, both comic and movie, when you combine these with Wave 44? I mean, the only thing I'm hopeful for with this wave is we'll finally get a hairpiece for movie Loki. The selling point of these waves to me is a hairpiece!!

I'm certainly with you on Wave 44, but I don't think this wave could have turned out much better. There's only two major characters that wouldn't be retreads. I don't think DST could get away with making an Avengers movie wave that was Hawkeye & Maria Hill, Skrull & Skrull, SHIELD Agent & SHIELD Agent.

  10. thinking about sleeved arms for crossbones. some combo of the spirit upper arm and BD spirit lower would probably work nicely for a factory paint parts swap option.

I'm planning on using Possessed Janosz arms with Origins Sabretooth's torso for a more modern look.

  11. I think we (mostly) understand the need to keep costs down, but the omission of some details hurts more than others. Crossbones not having the stripe on his mask continue over the top of his head is a bigger deal than some other 'mates not having detail on the backs or sides of the figures. I guess I at least have a chance to fix this myself. I'm just glad it looks like Crossbones doesn't have a hole in his head.
