  1. I'm curious, did you get it off Ebay?

I'm a new Minimates collector and I've noticed that many sellers claim a package is new and unopened, but once in a while I have strong suspicions that it was falsely advertised. So far I've had a couple that looked like they'd been retaped, one recently that had a missing accessory (I was pissed), and others that just seem "loose" instead of getting that nice little snap feeling/sound when first posing a truely new Minimate. This seems more common off Ebay than anywhere else I've bought them from.

  2. My understanding was that the 'Best of' waves were a perpetually produced series designed to always keep the A-List available to retailers, even when the current wave is a little light on the heavy hitters.

That's how I understand it too. And I think DST did a terrific job making wave 2 appeal to hardcore collectors even if it isn't aimed at them. Heck, we just got a Venom four-pack and there's still reason to buy the Venom from these sets. There's a good chance I'll buy all of them. But expecting Spider-Woman, army builders, etc in a potential wave 3 is setting yourself up for disappointment. Gray Hulk, Leader, Doc Ock, and black costume Spider-man? That sounds about right.

Do you think they're going to have multiple costumes of the same characters (IE Gray Hulk/Black Costume Spidey)? I don't.

  3. For Amazon Visa users (like me), you can take $20 off a $100+ purchase on a toys and games order as long as the items are specifically sold by Amazon. The promo code to apply during checkout is: toy20off

Here is a link to all the eligible Minimates items sold by Amazon.com.

It might be harder for some of you longtime collectors to find $100 worth of stuff, but I managed to get a bunch of MM sets in and Nerf stuff to fill the remaining gap. Enjoy!

  4. Picked up the Expendables series 1 figs from TRU yesterday. Did anyone find those strap holsters to be extremely tight? I ended up snapping one of them when edging in the smallest handgun from the set. Ended up gluing the strap back in and just tossing knives in there. Unfortunately it doesn't look quite right on Stallone.

  5. The Halo sets were buy 1 get 1 50% off as well. I originally wasn't going to buy Halo stuff but I picked up a couple identical packs to army build. Damn, I was only intending on buying Marvel, but have since dipped into everything (Walking Dead/Expendables/Halo/Movie Monsters/Even the Knight Rider car for Punisher).

  6. Not sure if there is a better thread to post this in, but Marvel Minimates are buy 1, get 1 50% off at TRU (online and in store). Unfortunately, not all of the Marvel sets on their website are correctly included in this, such as the recent AvX set, and certain waves of Marvel vs Capcom. In the store, this would be pretty easy to argue if the price isn't adjusted correctly in their system.

Edit: just got back from TRU and their MvC waves are a little out of whack with this sale. I brought the MODOK/Akuma set and Sentinel/Ryu sets up. The MODOK set was part of the promotion, the Sentinel set was not. After mentioning that both sets are from the same series of toys, the cashier looked at the packaging and agreed. She manually adjusted the price of the 2nd set without any fuss.

    * See post 14 for an Amazon promo ($20 off a $100 toy/games order).

  7. Just got the wave 1 set and as Tony would say, "They'rrrre Grrrreat!" As a new collector, being able to snag all the fairly big name characters in one fell swoop is awesome. They feel very complete with all kinds of accessories and even some pieces to allow characters to go maskless.

Are these available at specialty shops now?

Not sure, I ordered the set off Kirin Hobby for $38 shipped.

  8. That... that that... That Bike. I will find that bike. I will own that bike. Ghost Rider will ride that bike. It seems a major problem I've had with the Rider's existence can be slightly solved. Is it a perfect Hellcycle? No, but it certainly looks serviceable.

It was like $3-$4 at Walmart. I've tossed the packaging, but I know it was Hot Wheels brand. It's amazing that the handlebars are like exact size for minimate hands. The hands don't feel stretched or anything when placing them over the handlebars.

  9. Just got the wave 1 set and as Tony would say, "They'rrrre Grrrreat!" As a new collector, being able to snag all the fairly big name characters in one fell swoop is awesome. They feel very complete with all kinds of accessories and even some pieces to allow characters to go maskless.

As far as future Best Of characters go, I hope to one day get a Ghost Rider. I see there have been a few released before but I find them a tad expensive, and honestly I feel like he's a character that belongs in these types of sets anyway. I even bought a Hot Wheels bike, with flames and all, in anticipation of getting Ghost Rider :)

  10. Thanks Picasso...err Turtle. Now I have a perfect understanding of what the fix is. Can knock that out with some sandpaper later >: )

This was my first (Marvel) set but I'm glad I didn't let this defect turn me away from picking up a lot more.

  11. Hey guys, I'm new here >: )

I just recently picked up the IM/Rhino set and my IM has those bum hips that pop off if you stare at it long enough. I saw there was a dremel fix that might help. Can anyone elaborate? Are you just increasing the depth of the socket? Feels like there can't be much further to dremel out before you go right through the back. Is there a specific bit size you're using?

    Thanks in advanced.
