  1. Zach, you mentioned in the SDCC thread that this is one of the most famous comic book covers in the world. I think we all agree on that. So, I don't think you should make light that the jacket looks nothing like the one on the cover. If you're going to give us a cover accurate Kitty, you should be giving us a cover accurate Logan as well. That being said, I love the rest of the set, but that jacket is a huge blunder. I'm not kidding at all when I suggest you make a more accurate jacket and issue it in some other set down the line like you guys did to fix the Phoenix Cyclops issue. In my opinion, this figure is just as deserving, if not more so, of such a fix.

  2. As far as the character selection I think this has a lot to do with that Alpha Flight set from a few years ago, which sold disastrously from what I can tell. Also some of the more obscure mates that have not sold as well. My belief is that it probably hurts the brand when sets linger like that. However we are the most hardcore collectors out there and love to get obscure characters, just look at any of our wishlists! Hopefully DST will throw us some bones in upcoming sets/ waves.. as discussed here many times I think A-listers mixed with our wishlist guys is the way to go.

This is the story of how I started collecting Minimates. I was in TRU one night with friends and saw the Betsy Braddock/Nightcrawler set and thought "hey, these are cool" and bought it. I thought nothing of the line after that. A few months later, I somehow stumbled across the announcement for the Alpha Flight box set and thought they looked fricking fantastic. Being new to 'Mates and how the SDCC exclusive sets worked, I panicked thinking they'd be sold out after SDCC and that I'd miss out on these awesome toys. When I finally got my set, I was instantly hooked. Hundreds of dollars later, I'm an avid buyer of the Marvel 'Mates. So, while that set may not have sold well, DST gained a loyal customer because of them.

TL/DR: That poorly selling Alpha Flight set is what started my Minimate addiction and collecting.

  3. Nice! What's the yellow peeking out from under Kitty's jacket?

Could that be the makings of a Sprite costume? I hope so! I do love that Kitty figure. I'm probably the only person whose favorite it is in the set. However, if this set is supposedly for broad appeal, I don't understand why we didn't get another Brotherhood figure that would likely appeal more to the casual buyer rather than "some girl" in civilian clothing.

Yeah, the photo pretty much confirms first impressions. Maybe it should be Days of Reuse Past?

This made me laugh more than it should. Also in regards to Wolverine, his pants are brown on the cover of the DOFP comic. If we're all about comic accuracy here (cough, Bobby Drake, cough), shouldn't the figure have brown pants instead of the blue?

  4. I'm sure we'll lose some collectors who dislike blind bags, but I think we'll pick up more blind bag fans/people who understand blind bags than we'll lose.

Come on Zach. This statement makes it sound like we who are against the blind bags are too dumb to understand it. However, I may be misreading the tone, and I'm sorry if I am. I get that it's getting them in more stores and possibly introducing new people to the line. But, I have a hard time seeing casual buyers continuing to spend $6 a pop when they WILL get duplicate figures. Perhaps I'm a cynic, but the reason these stores want blind bags is it forces consumers who want them all to spend far more than they would. Collectors will realize they can get the complete set elsewhere; Mom and Dad will stop buying or letting the kids buy when they realize their child is now stuck with a duplicate they just wasted $6 on.

  5. And I don't feel like comparing a blind bag case to an army dump is exactly apples to apples. Buying the army dump case nets plenty of dupes, sure, but those are army builders that carry a higher demand for people that want multiples. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt that there will be much demand for all of the blind bag extras coming from others that are trying to move the exact same amount of unwanted product.

Buying blind bags just isn't fun to me. I'm not trying to suggest that it's an evil plot by DST to screw the collectors. But for me, it's just an unrewarding experience that forces me to waste money on things I don't want multiples of to get the things I do. I just want to buy minimates and not have to jump through hoops to do so.

I completely agree with all of this. When everyone on here or on eBay is trying to unload the same exact duplicate figures, the market for those will dry up very quickly, leaving people stuck with multiples of figures they don't want.

Lubrimates will be the next big thing.

I think I got one of these once already. I ordered a sealed White Tiger/Hand Ninja set off eBay and both figures were oily in the package.

No Marvel blind bagged mates for our time. Yeah, we saw how that worked out for Neville.

No love for this BHM? I was trying to impress you with my historical knowledge. :(

  6. At that price point, if it does come to Marvel, I'll have to be out. Buying cases to insure a complete set and then having all of those extra duplicates just wouldn't be feasible for me. I don't see being able to unload the extras as something that will be easy to do, considering most of us on here would be in the same position.

  7. I'm looking to sell my series 1 and 2 Walking Dead mates. I have all of the packs from the first two waves (LCS and TRU) as well as the SDCC Rick and Vacation Zombie, the B&W Dale set, and the Amazon prison 4-pack. It's a total of, I believe, 13 sets and 32 figures. Here are my questions for you guys: What is a reasonable price to ask for all of these? Are the Glenn and Shane packs from TRU series 1 still highly sought after? Thanks for any advice.
