  1. Yeah I would love future sets to contain some unmade classic spidey villains.

However, the main point right now is like so many others I love the way this has taken off across the minimate sites and Luke can't be praised highly enough for the imagination, humour and sheer hard work he is putting into this. He really deserves to get lots more exclusives and for this one to do well.

Right now I'm just really wishing I hadn't pre-ordered my 3 sets of this and the gotg wave on the same order - at the time I thought gotg would hit first and didn't mind waiting for that wave so they could be shipped together! Waiting for Luke's set and knowing it's out there is a whole lot harder...

  2. Well, having been away for a week I'm clearly a bit late to this party but thought I'd just say how great it is to hear some new classic characters (and villains!) are on the way and how I've missed the chance for some wild comic based speculation during all the movie waves!

I'm not going to even try to guess what the final line up will be after reading all the various guesses and Zach's responses to them so I will just wait and see. Personally though I hope it's on the avengers/thor/wrecking crew theme as we've had a fair bit of xmen lately but the brotherhood would also be cool.

  3. I hear what you are saying Zach and certainly the zemos from wave 54 and the TRU18 absorbing man were among my favourite releases in recent times, and we all know how good the character selection of wave 54 was. Many of the other examples you cite though are modern versions of characters and the a-listers that we have plenty of though. While that is obviously appealing to many people, to this long term collector who grew up in the '70's it seems like a long time since we got a new b-list avenger (modern falcon excepted) such as swordsman, mantis, moondragon, hellcat, tigra, mockingbird etc, or any of thor's classic supporting cast/villains. I appreciate you can't please all the people and that you do what makes business sense, so it must be popular, but it just happens that for me the line has largely gone away from my area of interest. Don't worry though - I will be sticking with you! :)

  4. Well, strictly speaking I guess not, although the excellent wave 54 was very early this year and was announced last year, so it doesn't feel that recent. The dofp set doesn't actually have new characters (unless you count trask's head) though I agree the "classic" feel to it is one of the more appealing releases of the year. I think a large part of the issue for me is I like the old school '80's and earlier look for characters, so even wave 54, good as it was, went for mainly modern looks.

  5. I get how you feel Minifiend. The total lack of new classic comic minimates this year has left me in the minimate doldrums too. For the first time I no longer look forward to new wave announcements with much excitement because I'm expecting them to be movie figures or retreads of characters I already have plenty of. And as an avengers/thor fan primarily there hasn't been much new to cheers about for years. However, I live in hope that my favourite ever toy line will make a recovery one day - maybe in waves 60/19 if Zach's hints are anything to go by! :)

  6. Yeah we don't seem to suffer brand confusion over xmen. I personally really hope we get some classic guardians either in this wave or a box set - now seems the perfect time to me.

  7. Interesting thread. If I'm being honest, and I hate being negative about a line of toys that I've been collecting for eleven years and is the only line I've ever joined a forum for, I have to say that that my interest in minimates is currently at its lowest point since the line began. I am 90% a marvel comic based collector and the lack of any new characters this year or in the foreseeable future is not good in my book. I too fear that the line is going to head more and more in the movie direction. Even next year, in a "quiet" year for movies, unless I am mistaken we still have Antman and FF as well as A2. If they all get waves, then again I don't see many comic waves.

On a more positive note, I am delighted for Luke that he is getting an exclusive - hopefully the first of many - and am looking forward to the Big Bang Theory stuff (though no idea when they will appear) and have some interest in the Aliens line, so not all doom and gloom, just mostly lol.

  8. Being honest I would say that at this time where we are being starved of new characters I would MUCH rather see some (or any!) of my huge unmade wishlist being made than any more redos. Plus, most of the ones that I thought really needed doing have been done in the last few years (rhino, kingpin, absorbing man) however these are the ones I would put in a top 10, roughly in order of priority. I do agree that 10 is more than I need though, since most figures that we have are very good, so after the top 6 I was struggling a bit:

    bulkier destroyer

    bulked up abomination

    mary jane

    spiderwoman (with wings)

    vision (solid)

    quicksilver

    odin (without helmet)

    kraven (sculpted vest etc)

    wonderman

    gwen stacey

  9. Although I'm in the camp (if there is one?) that would prefer comic 'mates of these characters, and of the classic guardians team even more, these look a great movie wave to me. And Rocket looks particularly good - I can't believe he's not articulated judging by the pic so DST has done a great job there!
