  1. Personally I would say the destroyer is very recognisable (he even got a marvel legend!) and I would throw ulik into the mix. Plus he will soon have a couple more pretty well known villains after the second film comes out! I agree that overall he is probably at least as well known for his supporting cast as opposed to his villains but I still think only 2 after 10 years of marvel minimates is a severe under-representation for a film A-lister.

  2. On the list of DD villains we have I personally count stiltman even though he came in an iron man wave. I agree we could use some more though - mind you he is still beating thor at the moment who seems to have precisely two in comic form: loki (admittedly several versions) and stone men! Although destroyer looks comic accurate enough to display with them too. I keep hoping maybe there will be some tenuous link to make enchantress the female villain of this wave, but I can't quite see it.

  3. Very pleased by what (unless Zach is tricking us all with his clues lol) the theme of this wave appears to be. Seems extremely likely that winter soldier, falcon and strucker will be made which is great news. I also like the idea of seeing a madame hydra or batroc, but any new cap villains would be cool. Surprised no one has mentioned dr Faustus, I reckon he'd make a great figure. My one big hope personally now (apart from a quick reveal lol) is that we get some of these in their classic looks, especially falcon, if not in 54 then in the accompanying TRU wave.

Oh yeah and I echo the desire that we still see at least a little thor comic stuff in the next year too.

  4. You'd be sad too if they hadn't made a 'mate out of you

Not quite what I meant, but *when* we finally get him, I feel like he'll only look "right" if he's made with blue plastic, perhaps with black painted highlights.

I feel it's only a matter of time before we get the bulk of the missing Avengers, with the only two least-likely candidates being Moondragon and Dr Druid. Tigra, Black Knight, Mockingbird all seem to me like they will get made eventually.

Well, I certainly hope you are right. Non A-lister avengers love has been hard to come by in the line for a long time now it seems to me.

As for expectations, I'm sure we have all now got our "dream" wave in our heads for this so there are bound to be some disappointed people but the guessing is proving a lot of fun. I think it's great that Zach is giving us all these hints since it's creating an interesting brain-teaser. Got to admit that overall I'm pretty stumped on it, though captain America seems the most likely to me.

  5. I would welcome a new Vision & I guess that TRU would be the place to get him ......however........

    LCS Marvel (2008) Wave 21:

The first versions we got of the Vision probably saved Wave 21 from being a wash-out ,yet the powers that be saw it fit to give us another Havok first......OK the new Havok is better but was the old so bad ? Ol' Hawkeye improves dramatically with a suitable head swap yet we've been given nothing mainstream since.

Prof. Hulk & Abomination are indeed....abominable Minimates whilst Polaris was.... what can I say(?) ....unattractive (unattractive....think about itrolleyes.gif )

What am I trying to say ? The wave with 2 Visions & a Hawkeye (2 Avengers) , a Hulk version , a Hulk villain .....& 2 X-men characters fell flat on its face . Nobody ever lists a Vision on their 'Want' list ,non-variant Visions sell for more than variants on ebay & I cant recall anybody begging for a Hawkeye because they can't find one . I like that original Hawkeye ,the Bullseye version is better but not that much & again it's more about his 'boat' than anything else .

I'd prefer new characters rather than token 'nouveaux' revamps. I'm just about Thored out ,ironed out , Spideyed & Hulked glare.gif

I hope we'll still find you on the board tomorrow if I say I actually agree with you again! wink.png

Despite how it may sound I'm not particularly championing a new vision. As I said before there are a whole host of unmade avengers that I would MUCH rather see made. However, I am an avengers fan and as we know that TRU17 will contain 2 avengers updates I guess I'm just saying I can see a point to a new vision more than some other characters. Oh and I'm surprised you aren't wolverined out too!

  6. I may have to find another forum if people continually agree with me dry.png

Wave 16 Loki ( legs etc.) will make you a decent solid legg-ed Vision.

Well, I must disagree with you there (see what I did there? wink.png ) only a new vision will do!

Seriously though, I know you can make a pretty decent one with the wave 16 loki, and actually I do quite like the phasing look anyway. However, when you consider how many versions of some characters we have by now, a second version of an iconic avenger who's been around for about 40 years doesn't seem to be the worst update in the world.

  7. I'm not quite sure why a new Vision is necessary ....not too much wrong with the other two IMHO . The current Pietro's face looks dated but does that warrant a new minimate ? Not in my book. I've always yearned for a green Pietro & I'll happily wait for that one when we get the 'Brotherhood' box set .

    Winged minimates sell well thumbsup.gif

I mainly agree about vision tbh and would much rather have some of the unmade avengers than a redo any day. However, if we are talking worthwhile redos then a vision with all solid limbs would be good.

And actually I'm quite happy with the current quicksilver but agree that a green one would be nice.

Of all the current avengers we have, probably wasp is the one that would most justify a new figure imo, not because the one we have isn't great but just because the "look" is very much from her earliest appearances. However, I'd happily just stick with her rather than an updated one to get some of the female avengers we don't have at all, eg mantis, moondragon, mockingbird - in fact it seems anyone that starts with "m" - sounds a great theme for a wave or boxset lol.

  8. I'm actually not sure, though you are probably right. What I was wondering on the spidey ones though was whether they were redos at all or totally new characters. If they are redos then I guess a costume variation is no bad thing.

  9. Yeah when Zach first said 2 avengers updates I was hoping for vision and wasp, but it doesn't sound like vision is likely now. Seems like it will be 2 out of wasp, panther and quicksilver probably - although wonder man could use it too, especially he updated to his first appearance costume! smile.png

Overall this sounds an exciting wave though. I'm pretty stumped by the 2 new iron man characters that presumably don't therefore include iron man that are mass market. Also curious to know if the friend and foes of spidey are new characters or redos. I'm hoping for new though an updated mary jane would be nice too.

  10. I'm totally with you on wanting those thor supporting cast/villains. Sadly, although when I thought it was a hotchpotch and saw the number of villlains in this wave I had hopes of an enchantress/executioner pack I think any thor love is unlikely now. He doesn't fit into a corner of the MU that contains 2 obvious poll losers, though I still hope we see some more thor characters very soon.

Having said that, this wave and TRU17 still sound pretty exciting. Either the captain America, hulk or mutant corners of the universe seem likeliest to me. Personally I hope it's the cap one and that falcon is among the choices, though some of the hulk figures mentioned (especially doc Samson) would be welcome. With all those villains I would have expected it to be the brotherhood but I can't see that happening if toad isn't included. Either way I'm enjoying the little clues though - it makes it much more interesting than just announcements out of nowhere.

  11. Plenty of time for the NOW and movie versions (and hopefully the last incarnation as well) in the coming year with the film being released. In the previous Alpha Flight vein, I'd love a classic Guardians of the Galaxy as a 2-part exclusive:

    SDCC 4-pack:

    Vance Astro

    Martinex

    Badoon army builder

    Nikki

    NYCC 4-pack:

    Yondu

    Starhawk

    Charlie-27

    Korvac (machine or god-version)

Or just make one 4-pack and one 2-pack, eliminating Korvac and the Badoon.

Now that double set of classic guardians is something I would love to see!! Probably my most wanted unmade team along with the inhumans and the original young avengers, in that order.

  12. "I learned the hard way that those that loved me the most criticised me the most"

    >I do on occasion find myself starting to type what basically amounts to "not interested", and then I stop and think, "nobody cares that you're not interested". smile.png

I think BHM has a good point. I know Zach doesn't like negativity and completely understand that. If I were an official rep for a company and people ever demonstrated dislike or disinterest in something we were doing, I would hate it, as well. And that's why those kinds of posts are removed from DST's Facebook, right? Makes sense in that context. But frankly, it represents feelings and opinions of folks who really love Minimates. To me, it's no more or less useful than saying "Oh, I love this! Gonna buy 10 cases!" In either case, we're transmitting opinions as hardcore collectors. So I would not say that no one cares when someone else posts that. It's part of the kinds of conversations we have here, and leads to discussions about why we feel the way we do, what could theoretically be done to change that, etc. Fully understanding that DST has to cater to a broader market than just us, I also think there could be some value there to DST if we share honest opinions that they can better understand. If those opinions aren't always gushing then it's nothing personal. If we keep it to ourselves, then no one knows how we might really feel. Is that preferable? Again, obviously, we're all supporters and collectors of Minimates of some variety or other. But this is a toy message forum, so I think these kinds of posts are totally legitimate.

    OOH! Marvel Manga!

    ITrJYc4.gif

A point well made. I think it is interesting to hear people's views on releases, whether positive or not. Having said that, ironically enough, I always hesitate to be critical of releases that don't really excite me and tend to simply not comment on those occasions. That is really because I don't like to be negative about a toyline that I love, and appreciate that Zach and co work hard on the line and like to feel that their work is appreciated. Also it is only ever character / theme selection that I don't always enthuse over (the quality of the minimates produced these days is invariably awesome) and that is simply something that is down to personal taste, hence why I tend not to say too much on those (relatively rare) occasions.

Anyway, back on main topic, I normally have a reasonable guess in my mind of what upcoming stuff may be, but in this case I am stumped. I'm guessing a marvel set will be the "unique" one Zach alluded to a while back, but if so I've no idea what that may be. I'm kinda hoping with the thor movie approaching and the fact that enchantress got drawn at some point that it might involve her, but as stormbreaker apparently wasn't that successful ( a real shame if so - I wonder if that would've been different if beta ray bill hadn't also been at TRU?) I can only think of some kind of femme fatales set if so but I think that's unlikely. Great to speculate though.

  13. It's classic for me! I would much rather have characters in their (to me) iconic costumes than what, as others have said, seem to be fairly short-lived modern versions. That's not to say I don't collect or like most of the modern 'mates but I would MUCH rather have new classic characters above new versions of characters we already have. Likewise (if and) when characters like the falcon are made, I would want his classic look first and foremost, though I'd be happy enough to have a modern variant.

I do also agree that characters that mean something to me and/or complete teams from comics I've read are important though, for example although she's pretty modern I'm stoked to be getting songbird to complete that thunderbolts team since I've read that comic.

  14. Greatest 4-pack of Minimates ever made. Diversity, needed characters and a great update (some could argue two updates).

    Better than 'The Defenders' .......?

For me it's right up there with the defenders, stormbreaker and the champions, probably in that order, but there's no doubt this is one awesome set!

  15. I would love to see a Heroes for Hire Boxset with Iron Fist, Power Man, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing

    100% yes.

If this'd be classic updates of Iron Fist and Power Man, then I wholeheartedly agree.

I agree that'd be a cool set though I liked your earlier idea of the inhumans even more!

  16. The sales of movie-based Minimates keep the comic line vital. There are still plenty of comic-based Mates coming out this year -- 48, 50, 51, TRU 15, TRU 16, various box sets -- and we will likely get another assortment in before the end of the year.

But separately numbering the lines is a mere technicality -- we'd still put out the same number of assortments per year. We don't want to put out more Marvel Minimates than the market can bear.

And a cinematic "Best of" would involve a dozen licenses from a couple of studios, but maybe in the future something like that might be possible.

Interesting. So are you saying that the movie waves actually sell stronger than the comic ones?

I do totally see your point though that the numbering would be a technicality. I guess as a comic fan, with what seems to be an increasing number of movies coming out in the next few years, I don't want to see the comic waves dwindling. Don't get me wrong, I like most of the movie waves well enough, but not at the expense of waves/boxsets with new classic comic characters. Having said that, if the movie waves keep the comic ones alive, then sign me up as the moivie waves' number one supporter! tongue.png

Yes, movie waves defintiely sell better, depending on the movie and the theme of the comic series. Marvel Now has had a good response. We'll see how The Wolverine does.

And the movie series, while they may bump a hypothetical fourth or fifth comic series to the following year, they also bring us comic characters we might not have ordinarily gotten, or at least not for a while.

Thanks for the clarification Zach. While not necessarily the news I personally want to hear, I understand how what you are saying makes business sense and keeps the line running, which is the most important thing.

And like I said, it's not that I dislike the movie waves, especially when it is a new franchise, eg I hope you do guardians of the galaxy when it comes out. However, I like it best when the movies encourage new comic waves/characters based on them too, eg wave 36 which gave us plenty of great iron man villains, or TRU 12 which gave some great thor/cap characters.

  18. So wolverines gonna be wave 52 will Thor be wave 53 & does it leave room for anymore comic based waves this year?

Yeah, it seems like half the 'mates being offered are from these damned Marvel movies. Just be glad no one is clamoring for 'mates based on the cartoons.

Next year will be better. The only Marvel flicks being released in 2014 are Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Well... that's actually more than this year.

No, it's 2015 that's looking lean with the Fantastic Four reboot, the Avengers sequel, and Ant-Man!

    huh.png

Wow! As someone who's very much a fan of the comic based waves, that's actually quite depressing. There's gotta be a case there somewhere for the movie waves being a separate entity like they are with TRU.
