  1. I love Onslaught. I'm just surprised that a character like Mockingbird is more popular than Banschee or Gladiator (who is part of one of the most prominent story archs in comic history).

You can put me in the "don't care about Banshee or Gladiator" camp. I'm not big on the X-Men or outerspacey stuff. I'd much rather have Songbird (or Mockingbird for that matter).

  2. Just to be annoying. That Tyreese figure isn't actually from his fight with Rick (he came out of that relatively unscathed).

The only time he appeared shirtless and beat up was right before his death.

I wasn't planning on buying an WD magazines, but now it appears that I need issue 3. I want to see how accurate my zombie identification thread is!

  3. Thanks MiniFiend. I've only written reviews for movies I've seen since I started the site. I haven't retroactively reviewed anything I saw before then. I'm sure I'll get to Shaun at some point. It is a great movie. I did include it in my top 10 zombie films of all time: http://askmeaboutzombies.wordpress.com/2011/07/16/top-zombie-movies-of-all-time-6-10/

If you like Shaun, you should check out it's Cuban equivalent, Juan of the Dead. I found it to be as funny and as good.

  4. Oh don't worry. While I have no interest in Transformers, they have been a wildly successful and enduring toy line, and I respect their innovation and quality. Even without being compared to Transformers, Go-Bots would still be considered some crappy toys. When your biggest success was a moped that transforms, then your toy line has probably failed.

Well, at least they were creative with their character's names: "Scooter," the friendly robot. . .scooter.

And what a catchy tag line! "Robots that turn into vehicles. . ." And the elipsis at the end is so perfect. Like, they were too lazy/uninspired to even finish it

    Don't forget their sweet-ass theme song: "The Go-Bots.....The Go-Bots...............THE GO-BOTS!!!!"

  5. Well, I want to add a few more things to the "spoiler discussion" that has been going on.

Since everyone keeps pointing out that this is a thread about the toys, and not the comic itself... there really is no need for anyone in here to discuss ANYTHING past the prison arc, since that is pretty much where we are at this point with the 'Mates. So, anything... say, past one-armed one-eyed Governor doesn't need to be mentioned right now, does it?

I mention that specific Governor, because I am pretty certain EVERYONE has read up until that point. But even with everything I have previously said, I think keeping any discussion in here based on the comic should be limited to what is in the current, or (when announced) upcoming waves.

Why talk about anything past issue 48, when we aren't even past it in the line yet?

Tenime, and anyone else who isn't current - if anything I said offended you previously, I do apologize.

We have a Morgan figure. He doesn't show up again until well after the prison. I don't think we can pin the figures down to one time frame, they're obviously not all going to go in chronological order. I'm hoping we get Abraham and Eugene before Jim or Allen.

  6. I prefer to read stories an arc at a time, but I pick up monthly comics because I don't have the willpower. If the next part of the story is out there, I want to read it! I do find myself rereading a couple of issues back because I forget stuff month to month. I also find that spoilers show up all over the place (seeing upcoming covers could spoil something if you're behind)

like seeing Carl alive with an eyepatch if you had just finished No Way Out

. So while I prefer an arc at a time, fear and obsession keep me reading month to month.

  7. Uhhh... the TRU deal has probably saved Minimates.

Saved from what? they were doing just fine without TRU and look in just the last week or two how many people have posted their frustration with the way the TRU system(doesn't)work and that they may stop trying to get them. you think that helps the line?

Five. Five people said they were stopping collecting Minimates because they couldn't get exclusives. Even though fellow board members saints kept saying "YOO-HOO, I HAVE THEM!" And just because sets of Minimates were coming out doesn't mean they were doing fine. Having mass market support is key to a low-price-point line's continued existence. (And yes, these are a low price point. Sideshow and Hot Toys don't need TRU. Minimates do, although Walmart would do in a pinch.)

Anyway as ive said a couple of times now, yes they are not for me, there are other properties that could/should get mated that wont if the line is slowly consumed by Disney, Thats what they do, buy up properties and milk them dry. i'd hate to see that happen to minimates. I mean how likely would DC/WB etc.. mates be if Disney had any "influence" in what gets mated.

Uh... we aren't selling out to Disney. I can't imagine what situation would result in which Disney (and we've been working for Disney for a few years now!) would dictate what other products we make. They may not buy them for their stores, but as long as TRU and/or comic shops want an item, that won't affect us -- and we will always sell products to the specialty market, because we're sister companies with the largest distributor of English-language comic books in the world. Disney knows we make Femme Fatales, guys.

Look, YOU may not be interested in this property, whatever it is (and let's remember we're all just speculating now), but you have to think beyond yourself and your own wants for a minute. If we are seeing the beginning of a greater partnership with Disney, this is an INCREDIBLE get for DST, and will only grow the brand and the company. Not every single Minimate has to appeal directly to adult males that are into comics, video games, and other nerd culture staples. Minimates are a niche of a niche of a niche (collector-driven action figures/ minifigures/ Minimates), and anything that raises their profile and brings in potential new collectors should be supported. Look, I can't stand the Walking Dead; I think it's an awful, awful comic book. But I accept that it's super popular, and I'm thrilled that DST was able to lock down the license, because it grows the brand. You don't want Cinderella, or Peter Pan, or whatever else it might be? Okay, don't buy it. I assure you that the manufacturing of those figures won't effect the lines you do collect one bit.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: HELLPOP GETS IT.

This exclusive assortment has not cancelled a series of Minimates you wanted. It is IN ADDITION to everything we currently make. It is NOT a long-term line we will be putting all of our manpower on. It IS outside of our normal wheelhouse. It WILL (I hope) introduce more people to Minimates.

I have a great respect for completists, but I know there are relatively few of them here. I see plenty of people who go out of their way to say they WON'T be buying a series/set/what have you. I hope all of you can restrain yourselves when you see a product you absolutely don't want on the pegs/shelf/Internets. Or wait until February, see what else is coming, and make a decision then. I doubt they'll sell out instantaneously.

So, you're saying.....it is Peter Pan?

  8. But beyond these three items coming, NY Toy Fair will bring some interesting new licenses that are 180 degrees from what we're talking about.

180 degrees from Disney minimates, eh?......Porn minimates?! That's too far, DST! I'm drawing a line in the sand! I'm almost glad that TRU has brought about the complete devastation and destruction of minimates.
