  1. I'm happy with this wave, but I have to say that Morgan seems kind of unnecessary. I would have rather seen another new character or a more drastic variant. I am happy with Michonne even though we've seen quite a few of her at this point. I've never been happy with her multi-colored sock and animal print mini-skirt look.

  2. Mattalica, I think you're being a little churlish on this point. While these don't come with a whole tray of accessories as we've become accustomed to, they still undeniably follow the swappable-part model of any other Minimate. You can put Iron Man's boots on Hulk, you can put Hulk's head in the Hulkbuster suit, You can put Hulk's feet on Tony Stark, etc. This mix-and-match feature, as opposed to the standard action figure model of a solid body with no interchangable parts and maybe one accessory, is still a different play pattern for kids who are newcomers to the line. In the end, I guess it depends on your definition of a "variety" of parts, but if you're going to be a stickler on that, the vast majority of Minimates fall short of the standard.

I think Mattalica's point is that this is only true if you opt to get Hulk and Hulkbuster. If you only get the free Iron Man, you don't have a variety of swappable parts, even though you can deconstruct him. There should have been a prominent subliminal message that encourages kids and parents to buy more minimates.

  3. Does your like or dislike of a movie determine whether you buy the minimates or not? While I'm not excited for the movie, I am glad that it will feature an array of villains who can get figures. On the flip side, I wasn't really into the Thor mates until after I saw the movie.

  4. I didn't like the approach that ASM took. What makes Spider-Man great is his relatability. He was a high school loser with problems just like everyone else. He wasn't rich, or famous, or a powerful other worldly being, or destined for greatness. The movie took that away by inferring that Peter's parents were involved in some way with him becoming Spider-Man.

  5. I wouldn't mind a bit of jumping around, timeline wise. Hopefully this line has the legs to last a while and we'll get most of the characters we want. There are already a few that I never thought I'd see (Dexter, Alice, Bruce, Gabe). Character selection has been good so far and I trust DST's judgment.

As for the two that we are getting: I'm hoping for Carl and Martinez, although no combination of those four would make me upset.

  6. Well that's exciting! Hopefully we get Carl and/or a few of the supporting cast from early on like Allan, Billy, Maggie, Martinez, etc. Definitely a few staples missing so far.

    Two of those, yes!

Excited to see what kind of variants y'all crank out to keep the main characters in rotation. Just curious, but are there any characters other than Rick and Michonne who are considered recognizable/big enough to anchor waves?

I think as long as one of them is in the assortment, we're okay. Specialty only has one of them, but it's a requested version of that character. I think TRU will get both again, and both variations are pretty solid. But there is NO overlap between the two assortments at this point.

Just saw the line-up for Series 5. Very exciting stuff! You guys may get that Tyreese you've been asking for...

I pretty much confirmed you guys are getting Tyreese, but nobody said Maggie was definitely in this assortment. Why must you turn this forum into a house of lies?:D

Soooo... If I'm reading into this correctly...Axel and Eugene are confirmed!

  7. YB, I stand by my assessment based on that picture of Ultimate Spider-Man, but the picture of Movie Spidey that BHM posted is incredibly atrocious. (Although it is a battle-damaged figure, so you could say that Spidey's mask just got all kinds of screwed up in the sewer)
