  1. 8 unique Minimates .

Do we know exactly how many "unique" 'mates are going to be in each case of 18? Did Zach say 8 unique characters or am I making that up?

You read it ......I think the words were 7 or 8 .

edit : "more like 8 figures" Zach

I just can't see that these will be on sale for more than $4-5 despite what I'm hearing is the recommended price.

    $90? a case which will include one full chase set of 8 ($40+?) & 10 spares ......

So are the 10 spares the problem ? If they are.... why... if we don't even know what the characters are yet ?!

"Assortment is 8 different characters, plus one variant figure."

I read that as 9 different figures, but I guess it can really be interpreted either way.

  2. For me, it's really a cost issue. Sounds like there are 9 unique minimates in an 18 figure case. That's 9 duplicates(ratio unknown) at $6 each. $54 worth of figures I won't want. However, outside of uncanny luck, the only way to guarantee getting the 9 unique figures is either buy a case, or buy them on the secondary market at a markup. Being cost effective, ie: cheap, and selective, is the only way I can continue to indulge this hobby. Real world expenses and family takes priority.

And for anyone who thinks $54 isn't so bad, just remember this - this is only wave 1. When the property is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and there is a risk involved with retailer investment, you'd better believe there will be more waves. By wave 4, a person would conceivably spent $432 on minimates just to get the $216 worth they actually wanted. In minimate terms, that extra $216 would buy you 27 2-packs of minimates.
  3. I don't think there's doom and gloom over them being blind bags specifically because people who want them will buy a case, which negates the blind bag aspect. But I think there's definite concerns about the price, the resulting duplicates from the purchase and if it's going to help or hurt the brand. Additionally, while blind bags in general are the "thing" now, kids are about as stingy with their dollars as adults and $6 goes a long way toward something else. $12 will get them a brand-recognized Lego set with at least 2 minifigures, or 2 blind packed Ninja Turtles from a (sorry) lesser-known brand.

  4. I'm thinking they'll be unassembled in the bag not only because it makes breaks less likely, but adds the "fun" factor for kids to assemble. Not sure what the ratio is going to be, but if the turtles aren't evenly packed, I'd think both kids and casual collectors would get frustrated at having 1 Don for every 3 Leos, especially at 5.99 a pop. That's $12 for 2 figures compared to approx $8 for a 2-pack, with dupes guaranteed by buying $72 worth of minimates in a $108 case, just to get the 1 per case figure. So what else do we hope for in the bag? A stand, definitely. Checklist/poster/assembly instructions? Probably. Enough to swallow 5.99 without a fuss? Doubtful.

  5. Not sure if this has been asked/answered yet or not. In a case of these blind bags/boxes, are the commons different than the 2-pack releases or the same? Because buying a whole case if only the chase is different than regular release is certainly not an incentive to buy a whole case.

  6. I've rounded up all the guesses. sorry if I missed a few but I think this is all of them.

    DC
    Jason/Friday the 13th
    Freddy Kruger/Nightmare on Elm Street
    Halloween
    Predator
    Nightmare Before Christmas
    Cereal Brand Charactors
    Haunted Mansion
    Resident Evil
    Silent Hill
    Aliens
    Dr. Who
    Max Zombies
    Max Monsters
    Game of Thrones
Disney and Marvel's Big Hero 6.
    Army of Darkness
    Hellboy
    Hercules & Xena
    Harry Potter
    Buck Rogers
    Mystery Science Theater 3000
    Disney Villains
    Golden Girls
    Godzilla
    Casper
    TMNT
    Planet of the Apes
    Metal Gear
    Elder Scrolls
    Fallout
    30 Rock
    Parks and Rec.
    Sherlock
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Mortal Kombat
I was also thinking last night, that it has to be something thats going to appeal to audiences at larger stores like Walmart.

Well you can probably scratch off confirmed future/existing licenses (Aliens, TMNT, Godzilla) and properties that aren't Halloween ComicFest appealing.

My top 3 guesses are Planet of the Apes, Predator and Hellboy. Apes is the only one of those three that has a "Strike now while the retail iron is hot" vibe to it.
  7. That doesn't sound like a big deal of a license to me, no offense to fans of the films.

But does it sound like "kinda big news" or a "large-ish announcement?"

And is it appropriate for Halloween? I think most people are ignoring that aspect.

Exactly. Something that would be a good halloween-ish debut. Not to mention hype generated by the new movie this year. Of course I'd have to buy multiples to Ape-ify so many other properties just for fun... Marvel Apes, JLApe, Apiens, Apebusters, Ape to the Future, Ape-inator...biggrin.png

  8. Palisades Blind Box Army of Darkness was painful. Even to the point that Time and Space Toys had a system set up to order sets to get SOME of the chases, but not all. To this day I still do not have S-Mart Ash nor the rare army builder. And I have no intention of paying $200 to get it. But I do have Hero Ash, which was either 1:32 or 1:64(and also resides currently in the $200 range). Either way, it wasn't really fun. However, Lego movie drew me back into blind bags. But once I reached duplicate purchases, I just turned to eBay to complete them.

If a buying a case guarantees me a set, then fine. But if it doesn't, I'm not digging it at all.

  9. For those who never saw the TRU Tomb Raider sets, did your stores receive Marvel Wave 18? I never saw either and i'm wondering if they are linked.

I guess a better way to ask would be did anyone who hasn't seen the TRU Tomb Raider sets found Marvel Wave 18 in their stores?

I believe there were two cases of Tomb Raider at my store and numerous wave 18. Wave 18 filled up multiple pegs, several times over. And not a one is left now, but the Tomb Raider still has 2 each of the Lara sets hanging there. Also found ASM2 today, full case on the peg. It's usually a good TRU for minimates. The only other time I saw such a limited amount of product there was Battle Beasts, which I believe only got in 1 case.
