  1. You guys have all been doing this a while, so let me ask you this. Why isn't there one on eBay yet? Is it because of the specific type of person that was invited to the party? Is it because comic con hasn't been over long enough? The suspense is killing me and I have to say that if it doesn't work out I am going to commission a custom gold Vorin anyway.

One way or the other I will have a gold Vorin for my collection. Despite Digger and Agent 88's best efforts!

  2. I'm sure our banter will be considered harmless, its the thoughts going through the original and veteran members' heads here that I am scared of. (ALSO this is a joke so if anyone decides to freak out please don't...a joke...)

We don't command much attention or respect here but those guys do.

  3. Black Washed Vorin! :D

    WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?

    That's a custom right?

Well sometimes it seems that DST ( not Zach because he mentions it all the time ) doesn't realize how large the volumes of minimates purchased by people like BHM , YB and other forum veterans and big names are ... I mean if anything they should get a gold vorin for the crazy way they support th ebrand.

  4. Agreed. I mean exclusive is one thing but exclusive to a group of people who are probably going to throw it away....not the best way to spend money let alone promote a new line of toys. Oh well, hopefully one pops up on eBay sells for 5000 and they decided to make more rare ones like this.n

  5. Hey guys, I didn't want to put this in the Battle Beasts thread because there is so much promo talk there and things get lost. But I was wondering why from the initial announcement and first promo gator in 2009 it has taken till Q4 of 2012 to have the Battle Beasts released? Was there a design overhaul? Did they just make the Gator promo without really thinking about the rest of the line?

Is it safe to assume that Battle Beasts is the most carefully planned and marketing Minimate line to date ( before release )? I'm relatively new to the world of minimates and a lot of you understand how things work internally so I'm wondering what took so long in getting them out? I am very grateful that we are finally getting them and have nothing to complain about, just genuinely curious.

  6. The only reason I posted this because the amount of display place of for other inferior, both in design quality and creativity , toy lines is huge and people seem to keep buying them. Imagine if DST set up a little Minimate display box at every TRU...people would love it! I know when kids see the toys out like that they know what they are getting and get more excited than they would by just packaging.

  7. I honestly never thought I'd become this enthralled and deeply enveloped in a toy line, let alone one that is the scale of Minimates. Anyhow, onto my question. What do you think the line needs to propel it to the next level in terms of market visibility, brand recognition and to make them more popular overall.

A new line of Minimates? Heavy advertising? Something we can do? I mean they have Squinkies, Fighter Pods and other "mini" toys taking up large display, I am almost certain that from an aesthetic stand point Minimates are way more pleasing to the majority of people, especially kids. They look like Lego figures on steroids.

It just bothers me seeing sub-standard products more widely recognized and marketed than Minimates. It frustrates and confuses me. I mean if not for the product and how much fun they are, Minimates should be more in the public eye because of the truly wonderful team behind them at DST! ( zach, chuck, digger and everyone else who I can't think of )

  8. Nice logo.

One decor suggestion: the Batman Black and White Statues. There's a bunch of them (at least a dozen) so you could scatter them about; they're all by different artists, so they're unique, but they're all Batman in grey tones, so they tie together.

As far as reaching out to the wider geek community, I'd really suggest contacting Dan Pickett (AKA Julius Marx), the head honcho at Action Figure Insider. He's a really nice guy, and really well-connected, and might be able to hook you up with some helpful contacts. He's also a Minimate fan, so you know he's good people. Here's the AFI contact page.

You sir are awesome! I will definitely get in touch with AFI. I will look for these statues right now, eBay has been our primary source of prop and decor procurement in terms of movie replicas and such so hopefully I can find some deals on there.

  9. Wow, its been a while since I updated this, not sure if anyone is interested but I've been hard at work and we are a few months away from opening. FBLOGO.jpg

I will upload more pics as we progress, still need to get together more minimates for our huge minimate display/front desk piece. We are planning on using some lego buildings not quite sure what.

Among assorted props we have a cap america shield, thor hammer, iron man helmet replica, back to the future hover board, famous movie license plates, batman cowl, a green lantern, various movie posters and comic cels.

If anyone has any cheap toys ( old or new ) to suggest that are particularly nice look and big enough to display in a small or medium number as opposed to the amount of mates we need, it would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to this we have the best personal and group training in Chicago! Woop! Ready to get this going and help fuel my geekery.

Thanks again to everyone on MMMV who has been so supportive of me starting a new business, I truly appreciate the wisdom everyone offers!

  10. Is it me, or is pretty much every active toy franchise but Minimates having a go at DC right now?

It seriously boggles my mind. Did DST and DCD say things about each others' mothers that can't be taken back?

It truly is confusing. It seems like it would be lucrative for both parties , especially considering that DC and WB are going crazy working on scripts for movies now.

  11. The real question here should be: What's your definitive era?

Let's take Wolverine for example. If you're a kid of the 70's, your definitive Wolverine might be the yellow and black, Giant Sized X-Men version. However, if you're from the 80s, it'd be the brown and tan version. However again, if you like to keep things current, your definitive Wolverine could be the John Cassaday, Simone Bianche-tweaked version.

I totally understand the desire to only want one version of each major character, the question is, what version is it?

YES. Someone who understands. In reference to Wolverine, I'd have to say black and yellow. I am slowly figuring out what I want from each character, the only three I am having a lot of trouble with are IM, Thor and Cap. Outside of the movie Iron Man figs, the rest aren't bulky enough for my liking. Extremis is nice but I dislike the paint job on that.

I will figure it out! My DC collection appears to be each characters most iconic ( to me ) appearance and costume so I figure that is what I'm going for with Marvel as well. I'm just hoping that I can figure out what Iron Man, Thor and Cap combo I want. If anyone wants to take a group photo for me it would be much appreciate ( I don't expect anyone to have the time to do this ) .

Thanks for all the help guys .

On another note, anyone selling this guy? http://minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=1390&n=Captain+America
