  1. Wow that's rad.

    But where's Thunderstrike?

My wallet could only afford 5 of these guys and as Thunderstrike eventually left the team/became a reserve member, I decided to go for 5 I felt were more "staples."

Although, eventually I'd really like a Thunderstrike. Maybe a Crimson Curse and Freebooter, too. Might whip them up myself, who knows.

  2. Been so busy, haven't been able to hop onto the boards in a while-- but here's a shot of a group I finished a while ago:

    Morrison's 90's JLA lineup!

    (Excuse the dust)

Basically, I did not have ONE member of the Justice League in official 'mate form before I started this project. Looking up the cost of a lot of those figures, too, I just couldn't start delving into collecting DC 'mates the way I'd like to. I got a cheap BD Wonder Woman/Cheetah at Comicon this past October and in a random parts/partial fig lot I got off eBay a few months ago, I also got the parts for Batman you see up there. Besides those two figures, everything else is completely from my spare parts/extra 'mates bin (plus decals/paint/apoxie here and there)! Pretty proud I was able to scrounge up my favorite JLA lineup, finally! May go back over the detail on Wonder Woman so it's gold rather than yellow.

  3. As the lucky recipient of the A-Next set, I just had to share some pics of my own:

  4. I don't see the age thing as a problem at all, you need to accept the sliding timescale of comics as a genre convention. I think the bigger problem is that they keep introducing new generations of mutants then after their books die off they fade into the background. Rinse and repeat.

Agreed. PREACH, BROTHER! ACADEMY X MINIMATES FOR EVERYONE!

  5. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it...

    ...

As for Kitty, it didn't seem uncharacteristic. She was put in charge of the team, yet every single person but Scott and maybe Rachel sided against her, and listened to this new weirdo "X-men", despite Kitty being pretty clear the entire time. So why be somewhere where she can't even be trusted to decently give her opinion. She's been an X-men just as long as Storm and Logan, yet she has no say?

At least with Scott, she knows what she is dealing with. Magneto, who saved her life, Emma, who isn't backstabbing, just snide and rude, but shows it, and Magik, her best friend.

Agreed. I feel like it started off so strongly and fell a little flat in the end. I'm interested to see the change in status quo for the X-Books. It's going to be interesting to see how Rachel deals with Kitty not being around and how Kitty and Illyana continue to repair their friendship. They've been on the outs since A) Illyana risked all their lives to get her soul back (in the now defunct third volume of New Mutants) and cool.png Illyana tricked Peter into Juggernaut-ing it up/Phoenix Five-ed it.

All this talk kind of just makes me want the NOW! X-Men even worse and definitely more than the BotA Future teams. But if this gets us both, I'm down...

    ...(Also, future Wiccan wub.png )

  6. Thanks for all the compliments, guys! I'm glad you like them. I'm particularly proud of that batch, so, means a lot.

I've been trying to focus on exclusively clearing off my work bench with all the W-I-P's I keep pushing to the side. In the meantime, I thought I'd post some stuff I've had done for a while, but haven't had a chance to share :

and a really simple, quick BeastNOW from spare parts I had lying around.

A few more touch ups on some of these, but pretty happy with how everything turned out.

  7. Holy cow-- with a minor delay, my Birthday Elephant gift just arrived:

    bdayelephant.JPG

I cannot tell you how happy this made me! I had such a big smile on my face when I opened this after work. I knew in terms of collecting, I was making it hard for my elephant to help me fill in gaps. But this is beyond perfect: custom tailored for the method in which I uniquely expand my collection and introducing me to new customizing techniques (air-brush!)-- I'm so grateful.

Brian (return address :X), thank you so much for stepping up and making me feel special DESPITE having a newborn to deal with! That kid is pretty damn lucky to have you as a father. :)

  8. I'm all for new characters and filling out gaps... but this is awesome. I may be biased since I just did customs based on this period so I have a full Capullo and Liefield team, but even if I didn't I'm in the camp of "another-version-of-characters-you-like" is better than nothing at all.

  9. The Ultimates Universe is basically an earlier version of the New 52. Designed to make sure you couldn't get confused about the past because there is no past to get confused about. As expected, it eventually bombed. The universe got all messy and it got confusing. This is basically what could happen to the New 52 if not handled correctly.

I think you mean what immediately happened to the New 52 because it wasn't handled correctly from the get go. The Ultimate Universe at least started slowly and built on itself with a handful of fundamental concepts being shared across a completely rebooted universe. The New 52 was a much softer reboot that opened with internal history and multiple titles featuring one character at different points in that character's history. It was confusing. There was no organic building process or internal history making, and a lot of stories suffered for it. Also the Ultimate U didn't replace our dearly beloved prime universe, so it was easier to swallow that pill and then have fun with it.

And I have to admit that I thought Electro was one of the more interesting redesigns, so I'm looking forward to adding the mate to my Ultimate U collection.

    All this. Yes. Exactly.
