  1. I just can't wait until I can put a Minimates facehugger on a red shirt. Bones and Spock will be standing over the guy, arguing about the best course of action. Bones will demand that the body be beamed up to sick bay for treatment, while Spock will argue that the logical course of action would be to prevent contamination of the Enterprise and treat the man on the surface of the abandoned colony.

Bones: "Damn your unfeeling Vulcan heart! This man may die before we can get the equipment down to the surface".

Spock: "Doctor, we do not yet know the extent of this organism's biology. Returning him to the Enterprise risks unleashing an unknown alien organism upon the ship."

Bones: "If we are going to keep alien organisms off the Enterprise, I'd like to start with YOU!"

Kirk: "Gentlemen. We will beam Ensign Hicks to Auxiliary Sick Bay Pod 2 and establish 24 hour quarantine. Bones, you figure out how to get this thing of Hick's face. Spock, you make sure we have security detail in place. No one goes in our out until we have a better sense of what this thing is."

Kirk" "Also, let's bring up a few more of those egg things for further analysis."

  2. I think the PS4 faces the same problems many of the new tech gadgets showcased at CES face: a more cost conscience consumer. I recently attended a version of "Best of CES" show and found myself fairly ho-hum about the technology. I think the PS4 and the XBox 720 will struggle with sales this year. Here's why:

    • Neither the PS4 or XBox 720 provide a new media source playback for their products. With the PS3 and XBox 360 consumers were able to use the new Blu-Ray format for HD movies. The new devices don't have an equivalent. Will RedRay USBs be the new format? Who knows? There just isn't an established format for 4K and Ultra HD yet.
    • The 4K and Ultra HD TVs don't justify the cost yet. Yes, the picture is nice but you really need to be sitting right in front of the screen or have a massive 270" TV to appreciate the clarity. And 3D still gives most people headaches.
    • Sony is going for a cloud distribution model for games and movies. I think it is a winning strategy, but I just don't think the Internet infrastructure is there yet. Anytime someone wants to watch a movie they are going to wait for a massive 4K movie to download?
    • Consumers want value. They will pay for a $1.99 iPad app game. But they really don't want to pay $79.99 for games. I do think this is where the PS4 will eventually find success though. Gamers will eventually be able to buy the entire library of PS1, PS2, and PS3 games through the cloud. But you are out of luck with that PS3 game DVD.
I suspect the PS4 Gen 1 will have a lot of bugs. The integrations they promise with Facebook, Youtube, etc. make me cringe. Every time you turn on your PS4 you will need to wait 10 minutes for the newest patches to download and install. It's bad enough with the PS3. Heck, my iPad iOS changes every two months. Hopefully the new 8 core processor can eliminate some of this with background processing.

FInally, if I've got $1300 to burn, I just wouldn't use it to buy a new 4K TV and a PS4. I'd buy a 3D printer instead. To me, that is the wiz bang new technology that is looking really cool. This is the deluxe version but the new consumer model (with $49.99 ABS plastic "ink" cartridges) looks awesome. http://cubify.com/blog/best-of-ces-2013-award-for-emerging-tech/

  3. Anyone else remember the SNL spoof of Aliens called "Alienses"? The SNL cast as marines were huddled facing the door with Sigourney Weaver watching the aliens get closer and closer on the tracking device. They are yelling the classic lines from the movie like "Game Over, man" as they prepare for the onslaught. The door opens and they all open fire.

A cheap rubber E.T. tumbles out of the door, dead.

So stupid but it makes me laugh.

  4. Comparison pics for the curious:

The Good: LEGO lovers will love the head and accessory compatibility with Joe Kreons. Kreon body is more articulated and pose-able than LEGO minifigures.

The Bad: Kreon torso not compatible with LEGO legs and vice versa. Two pegs (LEGO) vs one peg (Kreon).

The Ugly: Kreons have no compatibility with Minimates. The ball joints on Kreons are smaller than Minimates. If you want to turn Kreons into GI Joe Minimates, you will need a sharp exacto and glue.

Edit: The Kreon torso is compatible with the Minimate crotch. More research needed on potential customizing options.

  5. These are my first Kre-os so it's a bit new to me. They feel like a cross between Kubricks and Mega Block minifigures. I forgot to grab a Minimate for comparison shots. The blind pack thing is a bit annoying as my purchase of four blind packs resulted in 2 Kamakuras. I guess I'll use him in a future trade for someone I can't find.

It feels like the weapon handles have the same diameter as the LEGO stuff so I'm unsure about compatibility with Minimates. The seem a bit oversized on the Kreon so they may be perfect for Minimates with some Luke-esque handle trimming. Customizers may find uses for the other items.

    Without further ado:

  6. So, I have a feeling the Alien Queen is going to be a standard 2" Minimate with bulky pieces, which made me re-think how they could approach the Power Loader.

What if the Power Loader is also a standard 2" Minimate, with a tampo'd Ripley on the chest block to make it look like she is inside the suit? The arms and legs could then be standard Minimate pieces sculpted to look like the Power Loader.

It would be in-scale with the Queen (somewhat) and not break Chuck's 2" body rule.

Here's my VERY ROUGH mock up of what I am talking about.

    Ripley-PowerLoader.jpg

I like your mock-up, it's a cool idea. I wouldn't mind this along with a Minimates Vehicle Power Loader.

I have the Kubrick one and it is beautiful. It will be hard to beat though. Minimates fit perfectly inside. I have it packed away somewhere.

  7. Can anyone tell me if we have the box set for ghostbusters that can be seen in the top left of this photo. It looks like it come with marshmellow hair for ray and egon. Also if you compare the coloring of the suits with the poster(?) the suits appear more khaki color than grey.

Wait where did you see minimate kid arms and legs?

Good toy fair so far but still hope there are some surprises left.

Looks like concept art for a new GB box set.

  8. Oddly enough I've also wondered whether DST keeps at least one pack of every 'mate, my inspired guess is that they don't .

Regards ebay I've trawled ebay solidly for 6 years for one item that has never shown .

I'd love to hear what it is, but I'll understand if you want to keep it secret! I'd guess it's a promo or a prototype.

San Diego 2003 Yellow blank sealed.

    Like this?

    I have related "completionist" questions:

    1. Do you need to have every vehicle to have a complete collection?

    2. Do the Maximates count as part of a complete collection?

    3. Do the face variants like the Hulk from the animated Avengers 2 movie count?

    4. Do you need a bagged Dave's School Batman?

No right or wrong answer but interesting...

  9. There is a Pathfinder comic, and books, but the movie is I believe unrelated. We made plush goblins for the RPG, but plan to do more. :)

Lost in Space! Is old news!

    Just sayin... ;)

    Astronaut's?

Calling it... duh duh duh...., LOST IN SPACE!

To be fair, someone also guessed Aliens. Once people guess things correctly, I kinda lose interest in the guessing game

Ooohhh, my guess of Aliens was right although youbastards gets credit for first guessing Alien and Lobsterman four guessing Aliens characters.

Pete wins for first guessing Lost in Space.

  10. I've been collecting since the start and I still don't have a complete collection. Curse you gold Spidey!!!

To be honest, the new Minimates are leagues above the old stuff. If I was getting started now, I'd just get new versions of the old stuff. Old Kingpin is lame, long live new Kingpin. (Although the cigar hand is still damn sweet).

I think a complete collection doesn't include every single rehash of Captain America, etc. Get your favorite version and move on. That's my approach to the 25th Annv GIJoes, I don't need 400 versions of Duke.

  11. I wonder when we will see a Blue Hulk and a Yellow Hulk. I mean, it's bound to happen, right?

I just read my first Joe Fixit comic last week. He had to kill a crazed Shamu knock-off while he was collecting a loan shark debt from a shady guy running a fake Sea World in San Diego. I believe the whale's name was Shandu. Mr. Fixit doesn't mess around.

  12. I don't know if implied is the right word... It's pretty clear the same accident created them both. So yeah, the mysterious ooze that brought about the Turtles happens to be the stuff in the canister that struck Daredevil blind. It's just a fun little trivia piece that, until the team-up happens, doesn't mean much.

But if that team-up happens... Oh man how awesome would it be for Daredevil to find out that his accident had consequences even he couldn't imagine? That... that would be cool.

The team-up issue is scheduled for 2017 after Disney buys Nickelodeon. :teehee:

  13. Wow, this thread is long. Just skimmed it to catch up since my guess post of Peter Pan awhile back.

I've been a long time advocate of Disney Minimates since they bought Marvel years ago because the property would inject so much health into the line from Disney fanatics. Of course I would rather have Star Wars, etc, but Disney Minimates just make sense. If these do turn out to be Peter Pan, my only question is "what took so long?" Minimates only remaining toy competitor in its field of small block figures is Kubricks. Disney Minimates would de-throne Kubricks from the top of the LEGO-clone minifigure mountain (ok, ok, Star Wars would be the remaining license needed imho). It would be hard to consider Kubrick's as the leading figure maker in this category with Disney Minimates though.

I'm thinking the "space/astronauts" has a good shot at being "Aliens". Another no-brainer license that DST probably waited to pick up (perhaps at a discount?).

I think 2013 is going to be a fun year for Minimates collectors. Marvel Wave 50, more Walking Dead, completing Thundercats, I can't wait!!!
